The sweet sound of my quill scratched the surface of papyrus. It was all I needed to get into my higher thoughts. I had suspected there was a hidden magic in words and I knew I was close to discovering their secrets. My pen brushed against the page and my mind swirled with possibilities. A love poem for my dear wife, Beryl? A victory chant to my coming reign as King of Solaria?

My coronation should have been over seven millennia ago. Surely, my breakthrough must be in the making and I would reap my rightful place anytime now.

A knock at the door broke my concentration and I groaned “Go away, Swarovsky! I’m busy right now!” The door opened and I flinched as the one who had been knocking entered. “Archangel!” I cried. “My apologies, Michael. I had no idea. I thought you were-”

“It doesn’t matter who you think I am.” he kept his voice even, but frowned in irritation. “You shouldn’t speak to anyone in such disregard. You are the Crown Prince, but Prince Swarovsky is your parental.”

I rolled my eyes. “Yes, yes. And I must honor my angelic parental that my days may be long and glorious in the land I shall inherit in the name of my God, the father of every angel,” I sighed. “What if my parental is undeserving of honor? What if he is weak and feeble minded and-”

Michael’s blue eyes charged with tiny bolts of lightning. “I will not stand here and tolerate you speaking ill of Prince Swarovsky, my most honorable commander.” I was about to protest, but he held up a hand to stop me. “Listen, I didn’t come here to argue with you. I wanted to let you know that Prince Swarovsky has given birth to your baby sister. Please come down to meet her.”

My eyes narrowed. “What do you mean, my parental has given birth? I told you already, I don’t want a sister! Everything is fine the way it is. Besides, I thought Swarovsky said that he never wanted to have children again after how I turned out!” I felt my eyes flicker with the aura of red flames as I spoke.

“I understand you are upset, Lucifer,” the archangel put a hand on my shoulder. “But there is no need to shout. “I was able to work something out with him in which he would beget another royal child for this kingdom. I will raise her myself.”

I crossed my arms and scowled. “Whatever! As long as I don’t have to share the planet's empire with her. Solaria is supposed to be divided up between myself and my descendants alone.”

Michael glared at me. “Don’t be so unreasonable. Your baby sister is betrothed to a crown prince of a distant moon world. She will always have a home in the Solarian palace, but I assure you, she will not unlawfully take any land from you or your descendants.”

“Good!” I grinned.

Michael sighed. He had that look in his eyes that he had when he wanted to suggest I was being rude for no reason. “So, will you come down and meet your sister?”

I thought for a moment, desperate to escape from this stifling situation. “I can’t.” Michael raised an eyebrow. “I promised my darling bride, Queen Beryl Indigo of the-”

“I know her name,” the archangel interrupted and rubbed his temple.

“Yes,” I affirmed. “I promised her I would take her on a very sweet and quite long honeymoon. I’m afraid I must leave at once and cannot delay any longer.”

“Really, Lucifer?” the Archangel clenched his fists before taking a breath. “You have been married for exactly seven thousand seven hundred and eighty-one years. You have been on many so-called sweet and long honeymoons that seem to occur when you are called to do something important or otherwise unpleasant in your eyes.”

I shrugged. “All in the name of love, I suppose. In any case, you have no right to force me.”

The archangel’s eyes glowed with cobalt lightning, but his voice was level. “Don’t think this won’t go unnoticed, Prince Diamond Lucifer Edward of Solaria.”

I rolled my eyes. “There is no need to use all of my names, Prince Michael Emmanuel Love of the Universe,” I grinned. As long as I remained civil, there wouldn’t be consequences.

The archangel turned on his heels and left without another word. He was finally gone and now, I had an excuse to whisk my wife away to the far ends of the universe for a another vacation.
