《This Book》Chapter 18: Hayden Soulscape, Part II (Grayson)

The barely lit figure of Hayden stood in front of the only way out of this dark, damp dungeon, staring directly at us. I was just behind Thalia and trapped between shelves upon shelves of stuff. The metaphorical noose tightened.
“Interesting, that you thought that broken down old church was so interesting, when this, the real haunted place, was right here all along.” He said.
“Hayden?” I said.
“That’s not Hayden.” Thalia said.
“No point in trying to fool you huh? Well in that case allow me to introduce myself. I am called Xegluron. I used to have a different, more normal name but honestly I don’t even remember what that was anymore.”
“So is that what we’re looking for?” I asked Thalia.
“Not exactly.” She said. “The fragment has corrupted his ego.”
She keeps throwing all this jargon at me like its supposed to make sense. “What?”
” Destroying the projection of his ego, which is what we’re looking at, would be counterproductive. We need to find the actual fragment which has taken control of the subconscious.” Thalia explained, as if it was obvious.
“If you want to find the fragment, follow me.” A new, familiar voice came from behind us once again.
“Laura?” I said, immediately recognizing her. “How did you get here?”
“She isn’t here.” Thalia said. “That must be his conscience. The uncorrupted parts of the soul always fight back when a foreign one enters.”
“Like the body fighting infection.” I said.
“Yes, exactly like that.” She said.
There wasn’t much of a choice in what to do at this point. Behind us was the demon, forward was at least a chance. We followed Laura… the mental projection through the basement maze once again. The room darkened more as we ran, getting closer to the pitch black outside. Eventually Laura stopped and picked up a shoebox off the top of the shelf and handed it to me.

“Destroy this.” She said. “And then find its equivalent in the real world. Your sister will understand.”
I took the shoebox and smashed it on the floor. The darkness of the basement was instantly replaced with a blinding light, and then…
My eyes opened and I found myself back in the hospital waiting room, the real world, sitting next to Thalia, who was also just waking up, and Kish. Laura was sitting next to her.
“That wasn’t very long.” She said. “Did it work?”
A nurse approached us and we soon had our answer. “Good news, he’s finally waking up.”

Supervillain
The world is broken and rotten. It's supposed defenders are too weak willed to do what is necessary. It's leaders are too corrupt to care for those beneath them If they wont fix this world, then I will! I will make the world a better place ..... by any means necessary! Nice to meet you all. My name is Ginobi47. A lurker of fanfiction.net and now a writer of original fic. This is my first original work and I do hope you enjoy it! Do remember that this is a fiction in the Superhero genre. Please expect the craziness that goes along with it. NOTE: English is not my maiden language. AUTHOR'S NOTE: As I went through the other fictions of Royal Road, I noticed that my style of writing style (slow release, 1 big post) doesnt work well in this site. As such, I'll be experimenting on releasing smaller chapters more often, as this seems to be how the authors of Royal Road does things. Mind you, my release speed will still be very slow compared to others, but I'll churn out chapters more often than what I used to do. DISCORD SERVER: https://discord.gg/M7bmjTH ANOTHER NOTE: Some of my readers convinced me to set up a discord server. While I have absolutely no idea what to do in a discord server, but if you're interested, just join in and go nuts. Suggest some storylines or characters, seek advice in just about anything or tell me your deepest darkest secret (you can PROBABLY trust me ^.^). Feel free to do whatever is fun

The Last Breath
When Yezzu first sent his sons to the realm of men, they brought with them the magic of the gods. They created the three kingdoms we now have today being Dremshen, Ex'ol, and Kantillion. In the five thousand years since the gods left, much has changed. Great wars were fought, Universities were built, civilizations were created. One thing remained after the gods' departure though, their powers. Today, the balance of crafting the three gods brought has shifted. In the beginning, each had the same skill as the other, but the magic that was passed down through the millennia has diminished. The struggle for power that started long ago is coming to a defining moment. Plots of war and assassination are being weaved. Don't despair, for we may yet be saved from the disasters to come. Our hope lies in three young crafters. The first is William Divus, who sets out from his small village into the Dremshen Kingdom to study crafting after his father's passing. His questions about his father and his quest for knowledge drive him. Next comes Ehzahn Obasi, an Ex'olian thief with unparalleled skill. He steals for the thrill, no longer needing the rewards that come with it. He has just achieved his lifelong dream, but he will soon learn how much he underestimated the fallout from his daring theft. The last is Ki Soru, the niece of a powerful duke. She showed promise with crafting at a young age, so she had the best training the Kantillion Kingdom had to offer. Ten years have passed since her lessons began, leaving the king unsatisfied with the results. Her life is upended when her new teacher arrives, revealing a secret kept from her that changes her whole life. These three are our heroes. They were born in separate kingdoms under vastly differing upbringing, but each with their own part to play in the challenges to come. Here begins our tale of mischief and misery with only but a sliver of hope.
