《Does magic make you God?》#1: I just wanted to sleep in before graveyard shift
Advertisement
Someone banged upon the door with the intent on knocking it down. Even the cops didn't kick and punch the door like a child throwing a tantrum. The screams could barely be heard through the thick, oak door. Sounded like the TV stuck on low volume while trying to fall asleep.
Lex slid out of bed and scratched his chest. His feet tried to worm into the slippers. It kept scooting the opposite way of the toes stabbing forth. A grunt escaped him and he stepped on them, on the way out of the bedroom.
The steady banging rattled the door in the frame. It reminded him of a woman seeking help from an abusive relationship. Sadly, he didn't get enough sleep to want to deal with drama, let alone open the door and listen to a sobbing woman barely making sense. It would have been better to have never left the bed.
Lex grabbed the knob on the deadbolt, sliding it back. The banging retreated and the person on the other side turned the door handle. Lex jumped back and the door flew open. The man stumbled in without even saying hi, how are you.
Lex planted his palms into the guy's chest and shoved him right back out the door.
"Woah there, fuck boy!"
The guy fell back into the crowd of people on the fourth landing. No words or even aggressive posture. Just the strange desire to flee and fast. The poor sod grabbed onto someone just to stay on his toes and tore off with the flow of the crowd.
Lex stood in the doorway, finding it odd that people decided to run so high off the ground. There are better ways to horse around than doing so on the fourth floor with such a cheap railing that rocked on two out of four nails.
Rubbing the back of his head, he glanced left and stared at waist high light green men running up the stairs. They gripped swords and spears and seemed intent on getting to the fleeing crowd.
Lex turned to the street level where a car slammed into another stopped car. The rear-ended car supported a spear in the windshield. The passenger hung out the car with blood dripping down his blonde hair.
The green people stepped into houses and screams emanated from within. A girl bounced off the door, leaving behind a bloody handprint. She made it four steps when a spear soared out and punched through her back. It left her dangling, her hands swinging just above the fresh cut grass. The green man walks out and stomps on the body until it slides off the other end of the spear.
A goblin hid behind a truck watching a kid in the backseat. The kid must have assumed he was okay to run for it. He opened the door and fled right for the goblin. No more than six steps did he find himself staring at his body running without him.
The goblins didn't leave the apartment yard in any better condition. The yard was littered with bodies, leaving the grassy yard a perfect rendition of an abstract painting that used a little too much dark red paint. The two apartments that formed a u with his showed clearly that the easier to reach floors became prime targets. Some simply held bodies in the doorway, while others were left with bloody prints on the doorframe.
Lex noticed how many pregnant women had been pushed down. Or the mothers with toddlers had been slapped out their arms. The mothers themselves just dropped to their knees, holding the remains of their child that had been trampled by the remorseless crowd. The Aliens didn't even have to rush up the stairs. They could just pick off the easy targets.

Lex stepped outside his door. The crowd squeezed to get around him, forming a bubble that Lex existed in alone.
"Women! Come here! Women only!" He shouted repeatedly.
The closest woman tried to struggle out of the middle of the crowd. Getting away from the railing that swung aside, allowing a few people to go tumbling off.
A balding fellow pushed another woman aside, sending her stumbling toward the now-opened railing. Lex took two steps and grabbed her arm. Nobody attempted to brush into him. He pulled the woman into his apartment and grabbed a sneaky fellow by the collar, yanking him back out of the way.
Yet, there will always be those that fail to listen but just follow the leader. One guy in particular, turned around and tried to shove past Lex to get inside. Lex could only shake his head and kicked the man backwards. A quick jab turned the man's world upside down.
Lex lost sight of the prick when a big man pushed the sod aside. However, right after a man pushed off a woman with a toddler in her arm. If she had not turned her body, he would have pushed the child right out of her arms. Instead the mother stumbled backwards then was pushed forward by the ruthless crowd. Her falling face forward became inevitable.
Lex grabbed the woman and steady her. He elbowed a guy who wanted to use Lex as a springboard. Lex guided the mother into the apartment and turned back to guard the entry
Before he knew it, the women who were aware rushed into his apartment. The men kept fleeing down the walkway and what stood before Lex was a green man with a spear.
Lex smirked and stepped towards the railing just as the green man thrust his spear. Lex grabbed the spear and twisted it, allowing him to pin the spear against the goblin's chest while he stood at its back. He lifted the little fucker and tossed him off the fourth floor.
Another goblin took advantage of the opening and thrust his spear forward. Lex jumped back and snapped a kick into the goblin's head. The force made the goblin stumbled back and gave the opportunity for Lex to snatched the spear. He spun it around and thrust the spear into the goblin's eye. With a swift tug, he retrieved the spear and attacked the next goblin trying to get around his comrade standing corpse.
Two women stood at Lex's door. They gripped the door frame with whiten knuckles. Their knees bent and their bodies rocked forward and backwards. They surely had the idea to assist but the fact Lex was handling the Aliens just left them trembling with adrenaline.
"Should we help?"
"I'm trying but my legs won't move."
"I don't think he needs you two help."
"I think you might be right."
"Could he be military?"
"Definitely not a cop with those tattoos."
"His beard would be out of reg if he is military. He is probably just an instructor or something for martial arts. Only people I know would fight in their boxers."
"He's kinda hot."
"I'm surprised he isn't scared they might actually cut off his dick."
"I would be if I were in his shoes. That thing can be used as a weapon."
"I'm sure he wants to use it as a weapon. Just not against those goblins."
"I'm more than willing to put up a little resistance if that fine officer comes to arrest me. Let him beat me with that baton real good."

"Shameless."
"I'm just being honest."
"Can't blame her. A Man willing to defend women is a fine piece of meat in my book."
"I haven't eaten breakfast, I wouldn't mind having a late sausage."
"Oh, shut up would you?!"
"He can shut me up anytime."
"Oh my God!"
Lex opened up his sixth goblins throat when he noticed that the fellows were all dead. He stood up straight and glanced down at the goblins still chasing victims.
Do they not have anything better to talk about?
"Don't lock my door but you can close it. I shall be back." Lex threw a smile that was hidden mostly by his thick beard.
The women smiled back and waved their hands. One even propped up her breasts and blew him a kiss.
Lex shook his head and stepped over the corpse. He headed to the stairway and down. On the second landing, he spotted men rushing to pick up the weapons he didn't pick up.
"What a bunch of pussies." Lex couldn't help but mumble.
His foot stepped off the rough concrete and onto the prickly grass. The smell of thick smoke and hair burning slapped his throat. He paused and cleared his lungs with thick coughs.
"Shit! Can't they burn candles or something?" Lex stepped to the right.
A goblin came running, swinging his blocky sword like a mad man. The spear blade stabbed into its neck and as it ran past, the blade ripped out the side of the neck wound. Blood climbed out and watered the grass.
Lex moved on. His eyes locked on a group of three goblins. They charged around a car lying on its side, which somehow ended up in the once-open square.
Lex spear reached out and sliced through the neck of the first one. He used the body to block the faster one wild cleave. Lex stepped back and swept out the third's leg in mid run. The spear tip swung back in an arc and scraped across the second goblin's cheek to its eye.
The goblin dropped its blade and grabbed its face. It jumped around and hissed in weird language.
Lex ended the fallen goblin who only tried to get back up. He then kicked down the jumping jack and punched the spear into the goblin's eye.
Lex looked around but other than the dead and pillars of smoke. The yard was as silent as a bar when the home team lost by one point.
White mist flowed out of the goblins and surged into Lex's chest. He rubbed his stomach but it didn't stop the mist or the now blinking circle in the corner of his eyes. He took a deep breath and coughed hard.
"I'm either poisoned or something weird is happening." Lex turned to the apartment and saw men staring down at him.
He shook his head at the cowards and tip toe over the grass. Back on the more comfortable concrete, he took the stairs two at a time. He reached the fourth landing and a bright blue eyed woman opened his door. He walked in with his chest puffed out but then he noticed the green blood on his wrist and forearms when the woman's eyes played over them.
"Thanks for saving me. I mean, us." The woman smiled bright but Lex's eyes went past her to the crowd of women.
He didn't realize that many women ran inside. Though to be fair, his eyes often stray to a few beautiful women or backends. Then the green shits caught his attention.
"I couldn't let the men run and push down women holding toddlers." Lex squeezed past her and stood in front of his bedroom.
The women stared at him with different expressions. It was like that moment the teacher asked you to read your essay in front of class. Everybody stared at you with silent anticipation but your arms only felt the nervous tingles. Your heart was one beat away from a heart attack and you weren't quite certain your legs would hold you up.
"Honestly, I didn't intend to help all of you or even most of you. My mind was on the mothers who were being disrespected." Lex waved at one of the mothers he remembered⁸ using her body as a shield to protect her child.
The Grey-eyed woman stepped forward. "I want to thank you for pulling me in."
"Just a small rule but I prefer if you guys in some way can do something to make living together for the next few days comfortable. Like cooking and what not. That being said, this is a three bedroom apartment. Two others are down that way." Lex waved his hand to the left of himself.
"Do you have extra blankets?" A grey-haired woman looked like she kept herself in perfect shape.
"Yes, the hallway closet. There should be a bunch of sheets still in the bag and pillows on the top shelf." Lex opened his room door and set the spear down.
"Now I have a question. Who can tell me what the fuck is happening?" Lex looked around.
"This morning, this message appeared in our face. It said that our world was being taken over to become a survivalist reality show. Try our best to live then the goblins showed up."
"Next question, who is a gamer?"
A short brunette stepped forward. She wore a training bra and black tights that emphasized all her ass because she lacked anything chest wise.
"I'm a gamer and streamer, SummerSades. You should be having a blinking thing in your vision right?"
"Exactly."
"Think or say open stats."
The second he thought about it, a blue window appeared in his vision. Nearly blocking his ability to see things around him.
Profile: Lexington McCallum
Level: 3
Class: N/A (pick a class)
Stats: Str: 14 / Agi: 12 / Con: 10 / Int: 11 / Wis: 16
Mp: 80 / Hp 50
Exp to next lvl: 300
He thought about picking a class and saw a new blue screen. There were no tips about what the classes offered. He hadn't played a game since he was young but wizards obviously could use magic. Unless you were Harry Potter then your wand was nose cleaner. So he clicked Mage and received four spells but not the information on how to use them.
"I guess you just picked your class, right?" The girl was studying me like I was one of those doll collections in old women's homes.
"Yes, a mage. Thanks but I'm taking a shower." Lex turned and entered his room.
He could hear grumbling behind him until the door closed. Lex let out a deep breath and leaned the spear against the wall. He forgot that the bloody thing still had wet green blood until he spotted the green stain on the tan wall.
"Shit." Lex stared at it before just letting it be.
He walked into the bathroom and turned the shower on hot. It took a minute to go from lukewarm to steaming hot. He peeled off his clothes and left them in a pile.
Lex barely put one foot into the shower when he spotted a purple-haired lady standing in the bathroom doorway.
"I didn't want to disturb you but I felt you would want a woman to wash the blood off your back."
The lady had a body that was clearly worth penning the title model upon her. If she put on a bikini, the ad would never have to worry about men forgetting their company. It would be an instant reminder the moment anybody saw her in a film.
"Thanks, I would love the company."
That was all the invitation she needed to take off her clothes. Just watching her purple hair dance about as she peeled out of her panties was more than enough to have him erect. He slipped into the shower and started cleaning himself. He wanted most of it clean before she stepped in and his brain migrated south.
