《The Big Red Button》Chapter 13: A bit of History

Author's note: Apologies for such the long wait, but I had a sudden increase of shit I needed to take care of. First what happened was that I was suddenly given like 3 different projects that I had to finish within two weeks, and then I had finals to study for, and then another big test to study for right after the finals. Then I had a period of peace, but I was left with literally no energy to write. Then last Tuesday it was my birthday, so I decided to just wait until next week to write stuff. I really am sorry for the wait. Even now I still have things I need to take care of so this might be a bit lackluster. Also, in my relaxing time, I have been playing a lot of Skyrim(due to them making a re-mastered edition), so there may be some resemblance to it within the chapter.

"Is this what a hangover is like?" Azad asked as soon as he awoke. His head felt as if someone decided it was a good idea to use it as an anvil. Not only that, his body felt heavy and was full of aches and cuts.

Azad attempted to get up but fell back down when he felt a weight on his back.

"Blair, could you please get off my back so I can get up?" Azad pleaded to the tiny rabbit.

Blair looked down to Azad from their seat. Looking closely, Azad could see concern within the rabbit's eyes.

"Really, I'm fine now. So please get off or we'll lose daylight." Azad said trying to convince Blair.

She seemed reluctant to move, but eventually decided to jump down. Once she had, Azad slowly made his attempt at getting back on his feet, wobbling along the way. Once he had made it, he took a bit longer to regain his sense of balance. He was now fully standing, so he surveyed the area.

The giant suit of amour was still there and so were the two pieces of it's broken sword. He didn't really know why he had to check if they were still where they fell, he just felt he had to.

"So what the hell is this thing and why was it here? Speaking of, where is here? There seem to be a lot of undead here, a lot being two." Azad questioned out loud. He seemed to be getting worse in that regard.

"You could always ask the all-knowing god that is always up for answering your questions." George chimed in.

"Yes, but that would mean I would have to try and stand your personality. I'm not sure I have such capabilities." Azad retorted.

"Well it can't be as hard as fighting an undead knight could it?" George argued.

"That's what this is then? Why is it here?" Azad asked.

"Well this is what the natives call the Land of the Undead. Of course there are going to be undead here!" George said more happily than he should have.

"Land of the Undead? Is there going to be more of these things?" Azad asked.

"Oh yes, lots more. It used to be a prosperous city after all." George continued to wear the wrong expression for the current conversation.

"If it used to be a city, what happened to it?" Azad asked, not really wanting to know the answer.

"Well long story short, a necromancer decided that having an entire city's worth of undead would make him unstoppable. Like most cases similar to this, he was unable to control such an amount and lost control of his powers and exploded. This usually would kill the undead but due to the power being sent out from the necromancer exploding, the undead remained long enough to become self-proficient." George said with the smile remaining.

"I thought you said he wasn't powerful enough to control that amount of undead." Azad questioned.

"No, he certainly did have enough tri to handle them, he just lacked the control. Control is more important then the amount y'know!" George lectured Azad.

"What's tri?" Azad asked.

"What you would call mana." George answered.

"Why not mana?" Azad asked again.

"Because the person who we allowed to name it said that he tried a lot to gain it. We thought it was funny so the name remained as it was."

Azad did think it was funny.

"Ok, if I'm in this Land of the Undead, which way to I go to get out of it?" Azad finally got to his main question.

"Well, while this a dangerous land to travel, it has an essential trade route going through it that is used every now and again. To get to that, you would need to make it to the city first, which you were already on your way towards. Just keep going on your current path and you should make it there eventually."

"So when I get to the city, then what?" Azad asked.

"There should be a main road going straight through the city the will take you to another city a few hundred miles away." George replied.

Azad thought about it for a second and decided to ignore the large distance. He was sure he had at least traveled that much by now.

"By the way, what are these two cities called?" Azad asked.

"The dead city is named Tolwuun while your destination is named Thendor."

Azad repeated these name sin his head a few times to remember them before heading on his way.

"Where's my thanks!?" George yelled to Azad.

"You'll get it when I make it to a city that isn't full of dead people." Azad replied seriously.

So this was kinda short compared to the last one but I still have things I need to get done. That's not why I'm here though. I just wanted to ask an unrelated question. Have you ever done something while listening to one particular song on repeat so much that when you listen to it while not doing the task, the song constantly reminds you of it?
