Chapter 25: Time to Breakout
John
It had been a little over two months since I was imprisoned for the murder of 6 government leaders, I went to trial and nearly got killed more times than I could count. but in prison I was almost branded a hero, but in reality I was like none of the people in here, they were all ruthless people, all in here for crimes that were not politically motivated, these people although had their reasons were not the good guys. Benton still popped in and saw me even despite the recent events, he kept me informed on how himself, Jack and Jade were going along with how the world was outside. The place was apparently a shitshow with a revolution brewing and the country on the brink of collapse, Benton and his big stupid heart, joined the special police forces, aiding the new government to make sure the country wasn’t left with no governing body and everything plunged into anarchy. Even when I took down the people he tried to save, he is still trying his best to make the new ones work, his compassion was one of the things I most admired about him, he never showed it, but we all knew he cared.
My day started as it always did, I woke up in my cell at exactly 6am along with anyone else, breakfast in the cafeteria then it was study or yard work, I always chose to study, I never saw the point in doing manual labour, as it was stuff that didn’t even need to be done and it just made the day move slower, I always liked to learn new things so it didn’t bother me when I was locked in a room all day with guards watching my every step. But there were plenty of books to read about all sorts of things, my general knowledge from my time in here was triple the amount of what it was before I was arrested, I knew about things I didn’t even think I would ever use. And that was my day, in and out, eat, learn, sleep. It was okay though, as I was able to make friends with literally every person in here including the guards. It made life inside these walls tolerable, but no matter how hard I tried to make enjoyment of my situation there was a constant place that I wanted to return too and that was battle school. It was the one place I felt as if I didn’t get to enjoy enough before everything hit the fan and I would kill to go back with everyone still alive and finish what we started… but we couldn’t, and that was the truth that I had become accustomed to, I miss them I thought, the way Daniel always pushed the limits of everyone’s sanity with how much he joked and how Emily would acted as if she didn’t care whether I existed or not, all the banter, all the good times, all I could think about was how I wanted to go back.

Dinner time happened just as it went for the last 60 or so days, I sat down and began eating before I noticed something strange happened, guards were darting away from the eating area in a slight panic, I was curious but due to the fact that I was still a prisoner I couldn’t go inspect, so I just sat there waiting. As the minutes carried on there were more and more guards heading out towards the front exit, then from out of nowhere I heard and explosion next to me, the room filled with dust and rubble making it impossible to see or even breathe for a good 20 seconds, when the dust settled I was approached by 3 armed covered up men, all of which were unable to be identified “On your feet soldier WE ARE LEAVING.” From the voice I knew instantly it was Jack, I didn’t reveal his identity however. He then attached a rope to my overalls and pulled me out of the window and down the building, we hit the ground and Jack handed me a weapon “I know you’re good with these.” I grinned “Follow me.” I didn’t hesitate, I followed without question, knowing full well the consequences of that decision. If I got caught again I wouldn’t be getting out…
We had been well clear of the prison for hours, on the road to an unknown location, for some odd reason Jack wasn’t giving me any information as to where we were going or what we were doing, I was growing suspicious of his intentions. I knew Jack wouldn’t hurt me in anyway, but I didn’t know what fate he was objecting me too “Come on man where in the actual fuck are we going?” after a million times of me asking similar questions he finally broke “We are finishing our original mission!” I sat confused “Does this have something to do with the commander?” Jack said nothing but instead opted for nodding “You have said fucking nothing to me this whole time, I figured not seeing you for months would elicit some reaction out of you?” Jack still sat in silence “What the fuck is wrong man? You have got to communicate to me in some way!” Jack finally spoke up “For this plan to work you have to not know what’s going on, you have to trust me, the commander will die today.” I remained quiet the rest of the trip.

We arrived at the destination we were waiting on and as Jack went to exit the van he cuffed me “The fuck are you doi-“ Jack shushed me and gave me one instruction “Pretend to be my prisoner and run with the story.” He then pulled me aggressively out of the van whilst he opened the door, dragging me across the ground before yelling at me “Get up!” I then stumbled my way to my feet and continued to be pulled along “Jenkins! I’ve got your package!” then from the shadow he entered our line of sight “Ahh there he is, my good man!” he then drew a firearm “You have made quite the muck of everything, putting your country in ruins, then going to prison, not the smartest play!” I then spoke up “What do you want with me Commander?” Jack then hit me to my knees “What I want?” he said as he continued to step towards me “What I want is to tie loose ends.” He then cocked his gun and lifted it to me head “No-one can know we partnered up, I know you understand, its what you would do.” He then pulled the trigger but the gun didn’t fire, he looked down at his gun in confusion, in the moment of confusion Jack pulled his own gun out swiftly and held it to the commander, the commander acted fast knocking the weapon down fast, the shot that Jack fired still went into the commanders lower gut weakening him, the commander punched Jack in the face knocking him to the ground instantly. Jack whilst on the ground reached for a detonator and hit the button, when he did a whole small army came dragging out of every crevasse of the area drawing their guns on the commander. The commander for a moment weighed out his options, he then lifted his gun up and shot Jack right through the head clean. The suddenness of it shocked me my brain was yet to process it, the soldiers that surrounded him went to open fire but before they could one of them was suddenly sniped clean through the head. Everyone panicked including me, I darted towards a herd of Jacks soldiers in order to get a weapon and these cuffs off, one spotted me instantly and broke me free and handed me a sidearm. I then followed them to a wall behind the parking lot we met in, “I’m going after him!” I yelled to one of the soldiers, he intervened “You are just asking to get yourself killed, he probably has well more than one of them out there!” I thought for a moment “Its worth the risk, I can’t let him get away!” the soldier grabbed me by the shoulder firmly and handed me a grenade “This might help, it’s about all I can spare, good luck!” I nodded, I then charged out of cover and moved as fast as possible to the hardware store we were outside of, if he were anywhere, he would be there…
