《Mayhem of Magic》Prologue: The Message
Advertisement
Does God really exist? It seems counter-intuitive, naive even to believe such a thing. Why would God exist, if magic does? Magic, the force that it is, doesn't seem to allow God any space up there. Magic, with the ability to create power, life and everything else. Magic seems to do God's job.
God has to exist. Where would Magic come from otherwise? Seven different types of magic, all unique, all different and all just as powerful. Well, almost. Someone has to have designed that, right? Everything about Magic is so meticulous, so specific, it's illogical to think that this is all coming from, what? The air around us? The sky? A blob of energy? Ridiculous.
Rinsa would kill me to contemplate this logically.
I let out a bitter laugh. It's useless to think about these issues now. I was willing to die for God and now, here I am, fulfilling that promise. The gaping hole in my side is leaking out so much blood. I don't try to stop any of it at this point. I look at the bodies around me and allow my tears to finally escape.
Lin, Rinsa, Kinma, Locke, Holdin, Gane... what were we fighting for? Was it worth it?
I clutch the open wound in my side in hopes that the pain would be more bearable. Death is...so painful. As the seconds drag by, I can feel my death coming closer. I flop onto the floor and drag myself to Lin's lifeless body.
Her hands are so cold.
I can't find the strength to lift my head anymore. This must be it for me. Dying on the cold wood floor, stained with the blood of my family. At least Ritz managed to escape. Poor boy, he's too young for any of this. But, he carries my message now.
Everything's so dark...Why did the noises stop?
I feel my grip slipping off of Lin's small hands. My time must be now. I think I had put up a good fight. I can only hope to see Ritz's fight from the other side.

How to Raise Your Dungeon
A dungeon core awakens for the first time. It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something. Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing. For now, they are distant. But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction. And so its slow but steady growth begins. Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer. However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour. It trusts you implicitely. This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever. The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice. It hardly wants to die. Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.
