《Phoebe's Afterword》Chapter 4: Discoveries
Advertisement
May it be here or on Earth, time sure flies quickly. I'm already 6 months old.
And I didn't stay idle no, well, I did but you know what I mean.
Most of my time passed on my room was used to experiment with mana and it was I tell you well spent.
Let me summarize, first, I finally succeeded in moving my mana. I can't move it a lot and not for long but still, I now know the basics.
It seems there's some kind of "mana muscles", as I name them for now, you can use to cause movement in the pool of mana. It's like having 2 bodies at the same time, it took me 3 months or so before I was able to use them, the mana muscles, too struggling too much.
Secondly, and related to the first point, I tried to move some mana outside myself. As I speculated the mana quickly dispersed when it left me, but there's hope. Indeed, even if it does scatter I can work on it.
I discovered that distance is a parameter. Even when it's outside as long the mana is close to my body, and by close, I mean something not longer than 5 millimeters, it will stay under my control.
Well, that said, even if I can somewhat move it around I still don't have uses for it. And I can only manipulate it for a short time outside my body before getting mentally strained.
Thirdly, I found out that just like water, mana has a density and It's possible for me to influence it ! I only need to compress mana in my body by moving some at the same place to get it denser, and to ger it thinner I just have to disperse the mana through my body to even out.
And last but not least, using the method to get the mana denser I wanted to see what would happen if I were to move enough mana to leave a place In my body without mana. Which resulted in my body producing mana to fill the gap.
It's I think one of the best things I could have discovered.
Sadly there is a drawback, it would be too easy if there weren't any. Doing this to extend my reserve of mana tires me out a lot, to the point where the first time I did it I passed out for 2 days.
Useless to say my parents were frantic, I still remember their faces when I woke up. Just remembering their expression, the deep circles under Mom and Dad's eyes, nearly convinced to put this knowledge in a corner of my mind and forget about it forever.
Speaking of my parents, since the "mana incident" they have both more present, especially Mom.
It's a bit weird it was not the case before this affair though.
I mean, what parents leave their child alone most of the day without even a person to keep an eye on it ? Them apparently.
I know I'm a silent child, I will never lower myself to cry, but sometimes I really wonder if they don't forget I exist.

Well, whatever.
Besides the mana experiments I carried during the last few months I also, fortunately, had the opportunity to discover more about my surroundings.
As Mom keeps me within arms reach most of the time now, I had the occasion to see what she do during the day. It's boring.
From morning to night she is sitting behind a desk, doing nothing but going through stacks upon stacks of paper while frowning and even seemingly swearing at moments.
I still don't know what is Dad's job but I guess I will eventually.
Thankfully I did go outside sometimes, using my first experience to strictly keeping me from sleeping or getting lost in thoughts, I managed to make a few observations.
The second time Mom took me to the outside world Dad was here too. They brought me to what I supposed was a doctor. Considering how he kept touching my body it would have been alarming if he wasn't one.
I didn't see a lot of medical tools, just a few ones like the one they use to look inside your ear or the one to check heartbeats. These kinds of things are the same wherever you go eh.
Anyway, besides these and some unknown to me, I didn't see any other ones. Either their medical knowledge is not very extensive or they use magic to heal resolve every problem or both. I would bet for the latter.
Luckily for me, the doctor's place was right in the middle of a city. If I had to describe in a few words how it looks like I would say: take a random European city, erase the asphalt, put a bit of wood everywhere, floating things, and a sprinkle of magic.
I don't get the obsession with making everything float but I must say the place is gorgeous.
As I said there is no asphalt, every road or at least the ones we walked on are made of beautifully carved stones with crystals rock filling every little gap.
The whole place looks like a mix of your cliché fantasy town and a modern city. Well, the fantasy fangirl part of my soul is a bit disappointed but at least I will not have to suffer from the lack of technology.
And come on, not everything is bleak. On our way back home, which is for some reason outside the border of the city, we did go through a huge open market with peoples yelling and others walking around with swords at their waist. If that doesn't ring RPG then I don't know what it does.
Finally, the most important aspect of the last 5 months is language ! I learned a lot and I now can comprehend conversations!
Obviously, there are still words I don't understand but thanks to my parent's friends (which I thought we're family members at first) who often come to visit I have walking dictionaries who can teach me.
I don't know if it's because I already know a lot of tongues but learning this one takes less time than I thought it would be.

I'm also on my way to learn writing, thanks to Mom keeping me near her every day I can look at the paper when she's in not looking.
I did compare the speech to norwegian and japanese before right ? Well, the writing has nothing to do with those !
It makes me think of arab but with everything in it more angular.
Anyhow, I find the written language easier to learn as there is always some kind of pattern. Honestly, if I had something to write on I would surely learn faster.
Maybe I should try to get something?
Besides all this promising stuff I too had days where I did nothing but play and have sweet times with my parents when they had time. I'm a baby after all, I deserve some vacation once in a while !
Well that's about everything that happened, without counting the… inconveniences that come with being a baby. I think I did a good job so far, most babies wouldn't have been able to do half as good as me I tell ya.
----
For a few weeks now, 3, I began eating a bit of solid food at meals. Honestly, it's not that I don't appreciate milk but I missed chewing.
The meal schedule is quite strict here, and we always eat together.
Ah, just when I talk about it, the wooden door of my room open up. Mom getting near my bed.
"Silvia, it's dinner time." She told me with her usual soft voice, not expecting me to understand. Like every other day, she picks me up and let me rest my head against her shoulder.
Sitting in my own elevated tiny chair, Mom put a little wooden plate of pre-sliced food in front of me. "Here for you my little fae."
I don't recognize most food she gives me but it's usually pretty good. It would have been odd if the food was the same here as it is a different world.
"And here for you dear." She said while she was serving a plate twice as big as mine to my smiling dad.
"Thank you, I don't even need to taste to say it to say I love it !" He answered her with a deep laugh. Dad is quite the energic type of guy.
"You must eat to grow up well Silvie !" he said, giving me a wink.
I still didn't even speak a word, does he think I can understand his? Not that I can't, speak, I just don't want to for now.
Dinner is always the moment Mom and Dad use to speak about their day. Mom's ones are for the most part not really interesting, there's nothing quite exciting about sitting behind a desk all the time.
At least I've learned what her work is about.
She is without surprise working into administration. From what I've gathered it seems she has to review and give her approval or not for license requests. I didn't expect her to have this kind of boring job considering her personality but she does.
Swallowing, Mom let the tip of her fork wander in her food. "We should go somewhere."
"Hmm ? Did something happened ?" Dad asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm getting pretty tired to see paperwork every day, and Silvia must be bored here doing nothing alone all day." She answered with a sigh.
"Hm, you what maybe you are right, a little vacation can't do harm. I will get myself a few days off tomorrow." He said, sighing in return.
Because Dad is an outdoor geologist, he is often outside. Sometimes he doesn't come home for days.
"Great ! I thought we could go see my brother, what do you think ? It has been quite a long time since the last time we were all together. And I want to present to him our little fae." She said with a beaming smile, her mood visibly good.
I now know the existence of an uncle.
"Let's do that then, and going to the countryside will do us good." He answered, with a smile on his face too before looking at me. "What do you think Sylvie, do you want to meet your uncle ?"
Using my great acting skills, I replied with a cute smile. "Da !"
"That's my little girl !" He laughed before drinking a mouthful of water.
The remainder of our dining time was spent with me eating in silence and my parents chattering about everything and nothing.
I like moments like these.
After that Mom brought me to my bed after a very needed washing and left me alone.
I'm excited to see how the countryside of this world looks like considering what I've seen so far.
Maybe there are floating islands, or maybe some magic forest and waterfalls.
Well, I will see for myself soon enough eh.
I will do my mana exercises for the day and I will call it a day.
Because yes I developed exercises, two in fact.
The first one is moving my mana outside my body while trying to keep it stable and having it go as far away from my body as possible.
And the second one is getting my mana denser. To avoid the first time accident I only do it a little every day. That may be a tad slow but I have a constant growth so it's better than nothing.
If I had to compare with how it was at the beginning, my mana is at least 3 times denser than it was. After all, there's only so much room in my body so to have more mana It must get dense. I don't really know if having dense mana is a bad thing but it feels pretty great to me so I don't think too much about it.
Exhausted after finally completing the second exercise, I do it before sleeping precisely for this reason; I lay on my back, close my eyes, and fall in slumber.

The Pugilist
Vincent Roy Salazar has never been your common folk. He climbed any mountain he found in front of him. From a bright young student to an accomplished professor, his life can be described as a continuous race to the top of his chosen fields. Patriarch of a loving family, proud father of three already grown siblings, Roy realizes that his life is the perfect picture of what the average man strives for, and for that he is truly grateful. But happiness is a difficult-to-reach goal, and as he lies in a pool of his own blood, his fist cracked, a young lady crying while cradling his head, he remembers what really gave sense to his youth. Pure Unadulterated Violence The Pugilist wants to be a different take on isekai shenanigans. What would happen if instead of a moronic idiot, a depressed high schooler, or a wannabe hero the one to get his do-over is a fully grown man that has already seen what life has to offer in full? Someone who conformed himself to society, but has always craved something different? In a journey of self-discovery, academy building, god-slaying, and absolutely no harem we follow someone driven by logic, experience, and a smokey goal: to fuck shit up, have fun while doing so, and maybe resume his career as a professor for those strange, magic-wielding, unstable youths that seems to never get enough of his presence. Guys, a few notes, first of all, this is my first time writing long-form fiction. I have a background in psychology, and my main income comes from writing dreary financial articles on SEO blogs. But after a bad break-up, and finding myself falling asleep only while thinking of deus ex machina for stories on this site (and for APGTE) I decided to try my hand at this web series thingy. I'm confident in my grammar, but that's it. Everything else will be a first time, and as such any constructive criticism is encouraged and gratefully accepted. Now, on the story. Romance will be introduced once my little heart is mended, if you are scared of LGBT you may be turned off by the fact that I plan to have no taboo of any kind in my universe, but I won't ever write detailed sex scenes for any characters so don't worry too much. The litRPG part is very light and will take place later in the novel, but it's a key component nonetheless, for world-building and storyline reasons. I already have everything big planned out, so I won't drop it outta nowhere, and I hope you won't find too many flaws in how things pan out. I plan to make The Pugilist an interactive story, with secondary characters created by my audience and introduced after tweaks and careful planning. The main reason I'm writing this is that I want to build a community for myself in this time of isolation. I discovered that exercising, playing the piano or video games means jack-shit when you are utterly miserable, so I hope to give some value to my readers in exchange for praise, fame, money, and companionship. I give full props to anyone who has read this whole mess of a synopsis: I hope to not disappoint too much, now let's write some more steaming garbage that will be in dire need of editing later on.
