《Zombies》Chapter 13

Almost having had his escape rout cut off by a zombie horde, Rein found himself escaping into, yet another, covered parking lot. Having died in one, Rein found it ridiculously ironic he was spending all his time in these future zombie nests. Though he had ventured into the subbasement levels of the apartment complex, only a couple hours ago, it wasn’t without it’s own hardships. Rein had spent almost a year calculating and understanding the structure, before reluctantly allowing himself to park his truck in there. The surrounding areas of the residential building was a, narrowed street, no parking zone. Unless he wanted his fortress on wheels to get toed, he had to park it in the garage. Fighting the PTSD brought on by his memory of being torn to shreds, Rein finally got use to being in the enclosed space… but that didn’t mean he was cured.
Feeling his adrenaline skyrocket, Rein watched from behind a cement pillar as a zombie horde flooded the entrance of the parking structure. Rivaling the size of the first horde at the apartment complex, the large group animatedly searched the mostly empty lot. Most of the suited zombies looked to be fairly pristine, with few having open wounds. This meant most of these people had turned at sunset. This explained the high mobility they already displayed outside. Though they weren’t running yet, they’d no doubt be some of the first zombies to evolve.
“Shit.”
Cursing the current situation, Rein quietly made his way deeper into the parking lot. If the zombies hadn’t fallowed so close to where he parked the truck, he could of just hopped in and drove off. Unfortunately all the noise those two guys were making, had drawn the undead too close to his hiding place for comfort. Dashing into the nearby parking garage, Rein hadn’t expected to be fallowed by so many undead. Now not only could he not drive out of hear, but he he ended up trapped.

“Elevator. Subway. Basement. Stairwell.” Listing off the different options, the teen quietly contemplated his next move, while pointedly ignoring the growing panic in the back of his head.
A loud moan came from behind the directory board, a pale face covered by dark hair peering out from behind it. Seeing the ghostly figure wearing a very fashionable pants suit, gave the female zombie a combined look reminiscent of the ring, and a Vogue cover model.
“Crack!” The blunt end of a black crowbar embedded itself into the pretty face, a couple of teeth spilling out onto the cement floor. The force of the blow caused an eye to pop out of it’s socket. Though the blow hadn’t killed the now disfigured undead, it did force monster to stumble a few steps backwards. Letting out an indignant groan, she once again pushed forward, only to see that the boy who had attacked her was now gone.
Still carrying two duffle bags and a backpack, Rein found he had very limited mobility. Right now it wasn’t much of an issue, for the lot was fairly wide and spacious, leaving plenty of room for the zombies to spread out, but once that space closed, Rein would need full use of his arms to fight. They had yet to find the teen so far, making it easy for him to hide, but the more time that pasted the deeper into the lot the zombies would wander, filling the remaining space. When that time came, the teen would either have to fight, or be cornered by the enclosing monsters. From the looks of it, he only had a few minutes to find a solution.
“Seeing as these bastards came out of the subway, I’d say going downstairs is out.”
Darting behind pillars, Rein finally caught sight of a vehicle. For some reason the whole parking lot had been empty until this point. Hiding behind the black car, Rein finally set his too bags down.

“Hopefully this is one of those cars with those high tech alarms.” Circling the car, the teen quickly took in what he was working with, carful not to bump the car in case the alarm goes off. If that were to happen, every zombie in the lot would be on him in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately Rein’s prayer’s were sadly ignored as the car let out a short chirp when he approached.
“Fuck.”
Hearing their dinner bell, two nearby zombies started to approach from the other side of the car. Fortunately the other’s seemed to be disoriented by the echo. Decidedly, Rein stepped out from around the car to battle it out with the two undead. Not leaving room for the two to flank him, Rein took the initiative to confront the fat zombie on the left first. Striking out at the monster’s leg, Rein tripped the balding male. Having regained it’s use of arms though, the fat man broke it’s fall, leaving itself on all fours. Taking advantage of the convenient angle presented to him, Rein struck down on the back of the zombie’s head, not even allowing it a moment of protest.
Not taking the time to appreciate his new kill like before, Rein quickly backed away, reorienting himself to the second Zombie’s position. Have found it closer than he cared for, Rein back around the side of the car, nearing the diver’s door again. Suddenly the car let out another chirp.
“What the hell?! I didn’t even get close that time! Is this thing trying to kill me?” Seeing a few more zombies turn in his direction, Rein quickly re positioned himself. Swinging out with the metal bar, Rein knocked the second zombie onto it’s side before bashing it’’s head in. By now the situation he was in was starting to Make Rein sweat.
“Stupid car,” Rein mumbled. The car chirped in response. “Damn it!”
Forced to take care of another three zombies, Rein decidedly head back toward the duffle bags that he left near the trunk, but before he could take a few steps, his foot grazed the side of something left on the floor, sending it skidding across the ground.
“Keys!?” Unable to contain his excitement, the teen quickly scrambled forward to pick them up. Realizing he had been stepping on periodically without noticing, the teen felt both embarrassed, and relived to have found this way to escape. Hitting the button to unlock the door, Rein quickly loaded his luggage before sliding into the driver’s seat. By now a ring of zombies had started to close in, having noticed the boy in the dim lighting. Not waiting for an open invitation, Rein quickly inserted the keys into the ignition and turned it on. After revving the engine to test its power, the sports car lurched forward, hitting two the zombies that were approaching head on. After listening to the sound of two heads hitting the hood of the car, Rein slowly rolled up and over the two undead speed bumps, crushing them, before speeding off.
“Damn, this is a nice car!” Red blood splattered across the wind shield as a blue suited zombie stepped in front of the black sports car. Rein hit the windshield wipers in an attempt to clean the mess, but instead they only smeared the blood around. “Damn, that sucks.” Ignoring the mess, the teen continued to drive the car around the lot, herding the zombies further into the building before leaving.
Finally lining up with the exit, Rein floored the gas pedal, flying out of the cement parking garage.

Just a Rock
There was once a writer that felt like creating a story about a rock. A rock so amazing that its story just needed to be told. How amazing? Not amazing at all, on the contrary, quite ordinary. Don't believe me? Then read on. Edit: Resumed the story. Can’t do any more audio versions for now. I plan on editing some of the now non-applicable author notes and maybe rearranging the two side stories or combining them with the deleted chapters.
