《I.D. Tech》Chapter 9: Van Dough

It's Saturday, January 10th, 5pm.
"I'm getting hungry. What do you feel like eating Michael?"
"Maybe a tuna sandwich."
"Out of everything they have on this menu? Are you serious?"
"What? I like tuna. I used to eat it all the time when I was working out. Has lots of protein."
"So what will you have?" the waitress says to James.
"Yes I'll have a steak. Medium rare please. Also I'll have mashed potatoes and gravy."
"To drink?"
"I'll have a coffee. Thanks."
"What about you?" The waitress is looking at Michael.
"Yes I'll have a tuna sandwich. I'll have a Pepsi to drink as well."
"Wait I think I've seen you somewhere?" the waitress says to Michael.
Michael is getting nervous. Has she seen his picture on the news?
"Weren't you at the mall on Friday?"
"No I wasn't," he replies.
"I swear I thought I've seen you somewhere." The waitress walks away.
"Mike don't worry. They're not going to broadcast your face on the news here in Montreal. I already know what they're going to do. I've worked on escaped convict cases before."
"Well that's a relief."
*meanwhile back at James' house*
"So Mrs. Morley you're telling me your husband left last night after dinner and didn't tell you where he was going?"
"Sevro, I have no idea what's going on anymore. He's been acting weird ever since he was in the hospital."
"Well we believe he's behind the kidnapping of Michael. It fits the profile. A man with nothing left to lose. Listen, your husband is involved in some serious things in his workplace. I'm sure he's told you many times he can't discuss his work. But what your husband is capable of is really… how should I say it… incomprehensible."

"I just want him home safe!" Vanessa starts having a panic attack.
"You'll be alright. You'll be alright." Sevro grabs her right shoulder.
Sevro exits the house.
"He has the I.D. Tech. It explains why Daniel (transfer van driver) couldn't remember anything from Thursday and Friday night. It's impossible to open the back of the van without the driver keys," Sevro tells a CSIS operative.
"Sevro is it possible the I.D. Tech is in Micheal?" the operative says.
"I've thought of that. He's getting his revenge. He probably hasn't figured out most of what the tech can do yet."
"So what's our next steps?"
"He knows we're searching 300 circular miles. He's likely outside this radius. But we have to follow procedures for a bloody week and search everywhere within this circle. God damn it."
*Back at the hotel in Montreal*
"There's a Van Gogh painting in the museum. It's not one of his best works but it's still very valuable. Definitely more valuable than anything else in the entire museum. It's appraised at $1.3 million."
"And you think we can actually steal it?"
"Well it will be difficult. Will take a minimum of 3 days to plan. We may be able to sell it on the black market in Europe. People pay more overseas for paintings than here."
"Damn may as well call our heist Van Dough. Get it?"
James chuckles. "Vincent Van Dough. I like it. His paintings are worth a lot of dough that's for sure."
"Wait, you said we are going to sell it in Europe. We're not actually going there are we?"
"Actually yes we have to. In about a week they will expand their search perimeter to the whole country. They will broadcast your name and face to every news station in the nation. In addition they probably know I'm your kidnapper. Listen, I have software on here that is capable of making fake identifications and passports that actually work."

"Wow."
"Wow indeed. Anyways I have already taken the liberty of making my laptop untraceable. They will most likely try to hack my computer. And worse, they probably know I have the I.D. Tech." James pauses. "The technology I have...they will label me as a terrorist for stealing it."
"That's serious man."
"Yes. I'm in over my head."
James and Michael finish eating. They go back to their hotel where they plan the heist on the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
"I basically need you to act like a regular tourist. You'll be holding a cheap camera. Heck, maybe you can wear some non prescription glasses. Take lots of pictures of paintings. I need you to look around. I'll be recording what you see on my laptop using the I.D tech."
"I'm like a walking security camera."
"Basically. Anyway. I need you to look around as much as possible. I will be able to see everything; how much security there is, what places are restricted to the public, any blind spots where the cameras can't see you, and other things."
"I think you would make a great chess player. It's amazing to see someone like yourself having the ability to think steps ahead."
"Yes. Also I've been thinking we will also need to know the time it takes for the police to respond to the theft. I believe every painting has a sensor behind it that goes off when you remove it from the wall."
"Well damn."
"So we would need to act quickly."
*Sunday morning*
The alarm buzzes at 6am. James uncovers his right arm from underneath the blankets and reaches for the alarm clock. He pushes the metal button like he's playing some sort of arcade game. The alarm doesn't stop buzzing.
"Bloody hell. I think it's broken."
He tries pressing it again numerous times to no avail. James finally uses his brilliant mind to just unplug the clock. The clock keeps buzzing.
"I think it's got batteries."
Unfortunately for him, it takes a screwdriver to unlock access to the battery compartment.
Michael has had enough. He takes the clock and throws it out the window. The impact from the fall shuts the clock off.
"God damn that's really an efficient way to shut that off ain't it," Michael says.
It's the dawn of a new day.

Midara: Requiem
"When the alternative is extinction, all acts, no matter how heinous, are permitted." The story of a little necromancer who only wants to play with abominations against all that is holy dollies and her horsey, Mister Clackybones. Welcome to the novelization of one script I designed for a video game setting I call Midara (I selected the name of a genus of moths for symbolism purposes, not to be confused with anything else). Once upon a time, I dreamed of the setting being the next Final Fantasy. Long story short: Nope. Requiem itself is meant to be an Open-World RPG which adapts to the choices of the player. This is just one of many, many paths that one might follow in Requiem's gameplay, if it ever becomes a game.

Sometimes you need to become an animal to get the job done. In Moreau City, human-animal hybrids populate the street, mega-corporations run everything, and cyber technology is the way of life. But crime is running rapidly. After turning into a lynx hybrid, Rei Young moves to the city to become a full-time bounty hunter for the Moreau City Police Department. However, her job isn’t easy when she’s partnered with the burly panther, Luna Armstrong, who thinks only with her fists instead of her brain. Can they get along to capture good bounties? Rei and Luna will have no choice if they want to keep their careers from falling into flames. Whether they have to stop a mind hacking cyborg, lethal assassins, or killer robots, these catgirls got lots of work to do! P.S, my word will be between 500 to 2,000 words in each chapter.

8 74Resistance is Futile
Resistance is Futile 2336 G-L32 is my title. I go G’ell though, pronounce it how you like, it doesn’t matter. I was born, like the rest of the human race this era, with my abilities. I can manipulate the world around me, using the Strand to do it, looks like the old telekinesis “superpowers” the old humans used to entertain themselves with. As of only recently, within the last 20 years, the Ul’Katoin ripped open space to take our planets. However, they didn’t expect our resistance. They are stronger than us, faster, and far, far more adaptable and enduring. Humanity however, can use technology. Wherever they lay their roots, we burn them away with plasma and radiation. But where we lay down our foundations in their world, they snuff out our light with their vines and tendrils. And with The Jhar Empyrean and other space-faring empires keeping their borders tight, we have nowhere else to expand to. Humanity finds a way, and our soldiers will bring the fury of a Nebulean storm upon the Hellscape the Ul’Katoin call home. And I am one of those soldiers.
