Normally, cakes could be found in the wild, grazing or hunting depending on the type. Chomp scientists had spent ages in labs and scribbling on notebooks classifying the different desserts found in nature. Cakes were just one type of dessert.
But cakes could also be made. A hungry chomp could either bake their own cake or go hunting for it. No one really understood what brought a cake to life. It was a branch of science still in its nascency. But a manufactured cake waking up before a chomp could devour it was rare. Or had been, till recently.
"Back in my day, freshly baked cakes stayed still", an elderly chomp muttered.
More and more cakes were going feral fresh out of the oven now, escaping into the wild before they could feed the hungry chomps that created them. This is what had caused his mother to perish. A new purpose was slowly actualizing itself in the protagonist chomp's mind, a purpose beyond simple-minded rage-fueled cake slaughter.
"I thought this had only been a problem in my neck of the woods", mused the chomp.
"No. This has been happening everywhere", said the mustachioed chomp.
"My cousin sister from the neighboring village was complaining about the mass exodus of all the fruit cakes."
"My son working in the city wrote to me about all the ice cream cakes escaping to the frozen lands", an aged grandma chomp chimed in.
So it was settled then.
"I'm going to find out why this is happening across Cakelandia, and I'm going to put a stop to it," said the protagonist. This way, what had happened to his mother would not happen to any other chomp ever again.
"But first, I'm going to help you give that giant wedding cake the chomping of its life!"
