《Isekaid Friendship》Chapter 10

“Okay so here is the plan. Danji, you seem to be immune to the effects of the slimes digestive system.” I start explaining. “Wait when did we decide that what they burned me with is a digestive system?” Ikattef asks. “Since they are made out of slime but seem to be multicellular organisms, I’d say that most, if not all of their body is made off a type of acid normal multicellular organisms use for digesting.” I tell them. “So, they tried to eat Ikattef?” Danji asks. “Correction, they try to eat everything they can reach. But they have at least one weakness: Water. And what are we standing in? A river.” I continue. “But how are you going to get them in that lake?” Danji asks, clearly confused. “Don’t you get it? He’s going to use you to get them in the lake.” Ikattef says to Danji. “Wait what?” Danji says. “Correct Ikattef. We’re going to use Danji to get them all in this lake.” I explain. “Okay then.” Danji says. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get this over with so I can finally eat some food!” Ikattef shouts.
We walk over to the other side of the field. “Now what?” Danji asks. “Roll Danji, roll.” I say as I push him, which leads to him rolling. As he rolls, he leaves a clean path behind. “Can I ask you something?” Ikattef asks me. “Of course, you can.” I answer. “Why do you think no one has thought of this?” Ikattef asks. “It’s probably because they were digested alive, I’d say. And if not then they just didn’t want to see those slimes again. Or they didn’t think it was worth the money to get rid of them. There are endless possibilities, but we’ll never know the right answer.” I speculate. “Well now I don’t want to know the answer. Then I see a soaking wet Danji arrive. “THAT WAS FUN! Can I do that again?” Danji asks with so much excitement in his voice. “If we want to get paid, we’ll have to get rid of every single slime in this field so yes you can do this many more times.” I say and he starts rolling again.
It’s about lunch time when we’re done with killing the slimes. We go to the farmhouse where we see the old man, eating a piece of bread. “Did you young lads give up like the rest of em did?” He asks while taking a bite of his bread. “No, the contrary. We’re done.” I speak. He drops his bread out of shock. “You couldn’t have. Let me see that right now.” He demands. He follows us to the field which is completely empty. “Oh my- “but before he can finish his sentence Ikattef jumps in. “Don’t you want to join my religion? We warship the beautiful goddess Souru and her ever growing breasts.” Ikattef says, trying to sound convincing. “That’s the least I could do, I guess. You and your friends just saved my income of this year. Please take this as a token of my gratitude.” He says as he gives us two bags. “No thank you for the opportunity you’ve given us. And the money of course.” I speak. After that we start getting back to Mashiki City. “That was fun.” Danji says. “What did we get though?” Ikattef asks me because I had taken the bags from Ikattef. I open one of the bags and it’s full of Jins and Shiru. “Man, this thing is stuffed with money.” I say amazed. Danji takes the bag out of my hands. “Holy shit. That’s a lot of money.” Danji says. Then Ikattef snatches the bag. “Thank Souru, now we can eat.” He says while looking up. Then I open the second bag. It’s full of beef jerky. I take a piece and put it in my mouth. “This is amazing.” I say as I take another piece. Then Ikattef takes a piece. “Hmmmm, this is better then amazing.” He speaks. Then Danji takes a handful. “I need more.” Danji then says as he reaches out for more. I close the back before he can grab any more. “We literally have gotten this food a minute ago and you’re already trying to eat everything.” I speak. “I’ll stop for now.” Danji says.

After a bit we arrive at Mashiki City. We go to the tavern. “So, you’ve succeeded?” The Furosian woman asks. “We did and remember our deal?” Ikattef asks. “Yes, I do. So, I’ll be learning you how to Shadow Step.” She then says. “While you do that, we’ll go to identify the gem.” I say as I grab Danji. “Okay and when you’re done then just go to the Yokobi’s.” Ikattef says. “Then I’ll maybe get laid by those elves again.” Danji whispers. “If I had some mana left, I’d put a magic missile in your brain.” I tell him. “Let’s just continue to the Atin.” Danji quickly says.
We arrive at the Atin. We walk in and I see the owner fiddling with a necklace. “You’re back already? I hope you’ve got the money because your sword still won’t cut it.” He speaks. “I know but I’ve got the money.” I say as I put 2 Jins and 4 Shiru on the counter. He takes one of the Shiru and inspects it. “That’s pretty nice. You’ve actually got some money.” He speaks. “Now the gem.” I say while putting the gem on the table. “I see. It’s a stamina and mana gem. It both amplifies your stamina and mana and makes the regeneration of those a bit faster. These effects apply for the entire party. Now that that is done, I can take my money and you can get out of here.” He speaks. “Thanks for the help.” I say and I pick up the gem. I put it back in my pocket. We walk out of the Atin and start our journey towards Yokobi’s.
After a short walk we arrive at Yokobi’s. We enter the place and it’s pretty empty. I guess I get it, who wants to get into an Elf Café, where you can get laid for money. At least it’s cheap to sleep there. “Welcome back Danji and Segate. Your friend is already upstairs with one of my sisters as you can see, so you’ll have to do with me for now.” One of Gaima’s sisters says. “What room are they in?” I ask with a straight face. “In room 6 which is across room 9 if you can’t find it.” She speaks. Why is the layout like that? “Thanks. Danji take a seat. Don’t you dare get drunk because then a headache isn’t the only thing you’ll experience tomorrow.” I tell him. “Okay I’ll go sit there.” He speaks. I take the stairs to the first floor. I go up to room six and open the door. The room look a lot like ours, it has the same bed, carpet, and candle. Then I see Ikattef demonstrating his Shadow Step to an elf. It’s Gaima. Then they notice me. Fuck. “For a second I thought you were getting laid until we got back. For a second. I’m happy I was wrong.” I just say with a straight face. “Honestly, who do you think I am, Danji?” He asks. “No, his cousin.” I tell him with a straight face. “Wait… That Furosain and that Dwarf are cousins?” Gaima asks a little confused. “That’s another story.” I tell her as I take Ikattef out of the room. “Why did you come in the room?” He asks. “Why did you go into that room in the first place?” I ask him. “Why do you want to know? Jealous?” He then asks. “No more like concerned.” I speak. “Yeah right.” He speaks. I just start heading back downstairs and Ikattef follows me.

We get downstairs and I see Danji sitting on the spot where we sat yesterday. “Oh, I see that you guys are back.” He says a little surprised. Ikattef takes the seat next to Danji and I take the one right in front of them. “So now all of us are together again I want to have a quick meeting about what we’ve done and what we’re going to do next.” I speak. “I’m fine with that.” Ikattef says. “Agreed.” Danji agrees. “So Ikattef I’d like you to start about your Shadow Step.” I speak. “So basically, I can now go into the shadows and travel through them.” He speaks. “That sounds like a skill that’ll be useful for both killing and dodging attacks. It’ll be useful for sure.” I declare. “Can I go next?” Danji asks. “Of course, you can.” I speak. “So, me and Segate found out that that gem is a Stamina and Mana enhancing artifact. It both amplifies your Stamina and Mana but also amplifies its regeneration. So, it all goes a bit faster.” He explains. “I couldn’t have said it better. Now I want to quickly discuss a small issue.” I speak. “Go on man.” Ikattef requests. “So, remember all the quests that were on the quest board? They all were for high Adventure ranks. So, I suggest we leave tomorrow. We’ll go to a bigger city that will have more quests for us. So, I suggest that Danji goes shopping for better equipment but leaves a bit of money here for dinner and a room.” I suggest. “But I want to go shopping.” Ikattef says. “You guys can decide that on your own.” I say not wanting to get into a fight with the idiots. “It’s alright for me. I hate walking with heavy equipment.” Danji says. “Alright then that’s sorted, Ikattef you’ll be going out, looking for a better knife for you, better armor for Danji and a sword for me. Just don’t make it expensive, okay?” I ask him. “Okay, I’ll be back before dusk, and I wont use all of our money.” He promises. I take a bit out of the pouch do we can still buy dinner and a room for the three of us. I give the bag of money to Ikattef. “Well then I’ll get going, see you guys later.” He says as he leaves the pub. “See ya.” Me and Danji wave back. “What now?” Danji asks. “Now we look on the map for a good location to travel to.” I speak.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
