Once it was morning I woke up. Strangely Sakura was already up and was staring at the roof silently, her eyes were sad and yearning for something. As I was curious I stood up and then asked her.
"What's wrong?"(Forvish)
"Nothing. I just had a dream about the past, a nightmare."(Sakura)
Nightmare huh? A nightmare before Christmas, huh. I hope it isn't a bad omen. Well thinking about that won’t solve anything. Tomorrow will be a Christmas Eve. Hmm it will be hard for me to have a party with others. Well, I better go to the city and buy some food for the party and send it to my home, as I don’t trust any of the girls to buy and do a good job at cooking... except my mom, she could do a meal that would made us closer to god, indefinitely. I also need to buy presents for Lune and noir. Even through I will miss them there is no way I can leave Sakura alone. Hmm.... I should send Yume again~~ I summon Yume and order him to buy a matching black and white ribbons for Lune and Noir. That suits them, they are just so well behaved and cute kids after all. Yume agreed then he go as he ordered……… but I swear that I saw some tears on the corner of his eyes. I also told Yume to buy some stuff that I needed. Well this time I know what I must buy and which store sells it so it made Yume work simpler.
"Hey Sakura want to go to the city together?"(Forvish)
"Isn't it dangerous there? After all because of you my hair returned to the original color and it will made us a target of the civilians not to mention there are so many heroes in the city."(Sakura)
"It's fine, it’s fine~~~. I can hide your identity like this!!!"(Forvish)
I cast an illusion on her appearance soon her hair turned into black but not messy like before, her eye color changed from crimson red to azure sky. Once I do that I gave her a mirror.
"Now you won't need to be worried of being hated right."(Forvish)
As I was smiling for a job well done Sakura opened her eyes in surprise. It was only a temporary solution as it needed to be recasted once in a while. After a while she said.
"I don't want to go there, it would only make it harder to get my revenge later."(Sakura)
That was logical but I still never expect her to be so soft. She is answering without hesitation that if she know them she may not be capable of hurting the civilians. It made me happy and worried about her future at the same time.
“Give it up, the children of heroes and demons are fated to be enemies. It was just a truce between us. There is no need for you to get involve yourself anymore you are just disturbing me."(Sakura)

That words felt familiar somehow.
Why does it fell so nostalgic?
I don't know why, why my chest hurts so much hearing she saying this.
But I can't let her stay like this. After all she is important to Lune and Noir.
She was their sister and I don't want her to be suffering behind my back. I don't want them to see Lune and Noir crying for their sister.
I don't want to see her hurt to.
It wasn't her fault for being who she was. She was just an innocence girl. Yet no one cares her. They only think of her as demon lord daughter they never cared about the girl called Sakura.
That's why I must be here. I must say what I was thinking about her since a while ago and my decision.
"Sakura, I don't see a reason for us to not be friends."(Forvish)
"Forvish that is reality. No our fate. No matter what we do we are destined to be enemies."(Sakura)
Fate that, fate this, you know what fuck it!!!
"I don't give a shit to fate dictates!!!"(Forvish)
"Forvish you can't fight fate."(Sakura)
"Screw that!! MY FATE IS NOT DECIDED BY ANYONE BUT ME!!!!!!"(Forvish)
I shouted angrily at her. I don't like this about putting all the blame of everything on fate.
"Sakura listen!!!"(Forvish)
I grab both of her shoulder which made she surprised.
"I don't care if you are some daughter of a demon lord or anything. I don't care if others say we are fated to be enemies."(Forvish)
Then I explain to her.
"I have no grudge with the demon lord and even if I had it it would change shit! You are his daughter but you are not one and the same? Why should I hate you? Why should I care if you are related? If it is fate that we become enemies then who set it up? The world? The heroes? Fuck them all!!! I will fight the world!! I will fight the heroes!!! I don't give a damn!!! BE IT FATE!! BE IT the world!!!!!! I protect you because I want to!!! I care you because I want to!!!"(Forvish)
"But I..."(Sakura)
"Don’t care!!! I don’t care about you because I was pity you or anything!! I do this because I want to!! The reason is that simple!!"(Forvish)
Once she heard that she look down for a moment, then she look up at me with tears on her eyes.
"Forvish sorry."(Sakura)
Sakura then take out my injection which contained the sleeping drug and then use it on me. Shit at first I plan to use it if she still tried to run and endanger herself. As I fall to ground I slowly closed my eyes.
"We won't met again. Goodbye."(Sakura)
Sakura, wait. As I thought that I passed out.
======================================================================================================================
Narrator POV
"....Forvish, you never change huh. You always cared about me even thought I am a stranger to you, you are too kind."(Sakura)
Sakura said this as she take a blanket and coverer him with it. This is a goodbye. She was worried. What if the same thing happened? What if he get hurt for her sake again. What if he died because of her? She... she was just a pile of misfortune, a burden. But despite of that he cares.

"Forvish let's meet again in the next life."(Sakura)
As Sakura said that, she parted from Forvish. After all it will be dangerous. If she stay here any further he could die. Before she go exited the cave she gave a last glance at Forvish and her eyes become teary.
"Idiot."(Sakura)
Despite saying bad things she does not mean any bad things. Once she climbed the ladder she said.
"Heroes I know you are here. Show yourself at once!!"(Sakura)
She already knew someone was watching her and Forvish. At first she thought Forvish was collaborating with the heroes but it was unnecessary worry. Forvish....was the same idiot she knows, he never changed. After meeting him after so long she thought Forvish may have changed, as she saw him trying to kill some guy with a spear on the street. That's why she planned to kill him as she didn’t wanted to see the only one in the word she cared for being a killer.
But when she saw that he was trying to protect the innocent around, she realized. She can't kill him after all. That's why she planned to give him a full killing intent and to scare him away from there as she felt that there were powerful people approaching, but instead of running away he stood up with the same bright eyes. Once he was saved by the hero she realized that it was time to run. For her killing Forvish was easy, specially as he was quite exhausted. If she seriously tried to kill him then it he would not even last for one exchange of blows. After all she don't hesitate about killing, she always go full power. Being merciful to others is being cruel to oneself. Not to mention she could never let her guard down. There is a saying that even a baby chick can kill a snake if its life is at stake.
She wanted to meet Forvish and check how his injuries are going. But she never expected to meet Forvish at the park because of instant noodles. What's more he was the same as ever, a strange person that she can't understand. He then risked his own life to save her. Even when she wanted to exit immediately Forvish stopped her because he don't want for her to die. At first she think he was lying to make her lower her guard. She knew someone was watching them. But Forvish, he truly didn't know. It was clear from his way to look at her, those clean without fear or anger. But the most important proof was those last words he said. When she heard that she was happy, but at the same time worried. On the in the past he said the same kind of things, but the heroes appeared to save the day and destroy her hope.
For her heroes were enemies. They were special individuals that had the whole world as their backing. It was impossible to kill the heroes, they are just that strong.
"So you knew huh? As expected of the demon lord daughter. To think you knew I was spying. Your alertness was beyond my wildest expectations, tool."(Leon)
"It is nothing much. If I wasn't that alert then I would had my head on some stake long ago."(Sakura)
To be honest the only reason she managed to survive up until now was because of Forvish. He was the only thing that gave her hope of a better future, and even if it was but a fleeting dream she was satisfied. That is why she didn’t want to get him involved in her world, she wanted him to remain the same fool and don’t need to keep running in fear as she would never allow him to go through all she goes through and see everyone ugly and scheming side. She was used to it and could live just fine, she could go on as long as she knows there is some good on this world.
"Now what? If you want to kill me then I will fight back."(Sakura)
She won't give up, even if she only had 1% chance of escape she would bet on it. She will do it...she will not die.
"I am not interested in your miserable life."(Leon)
"What?"(Sakura)
Sakura hearing this was surprised but had a bad feeling. Just as precaution she took out her scythe and prepared to battle. The scythe was her manarize. And she then go another step.
"Manafication."(Sakura)
Sakura scythe begin to disperse and then slowly form a gun. It was 2 shotguns. Her manafication ability may be simple but for her to able make her destruction power concentrate as a bullet made things much simpler for her. Not to mention that a shotgun was meant for middle-short range, her specialty. She aimed one of her shotgun at him. But to Leon all of it doesn’t matter.
"What I am interested...is Forvish power. His limitless potential. That's why your life finally has some meaning, as a sacrifice. You must be happy for finally have some use huh, tool."(Leon)
Leon instantly manarized and appeared in front of her as if teleporting.
"Fast!!"(Sakura)
Leon immediately swung his sword.
She could only shield herself with both of the shotguns which made her be pushed back. Then Leon moved to her back and tried to defeat her with one stroke but Sakura already spin her shotgun and shot it. It hit him and an explosion happened. Sakura immediately jumped back. When she looked at him she was frightened with what she saw. The bullet, all of them were burning amidst his flame.
"What an annoying tool."(Leon)
Sakura realized once more, there is no way she can win. If he can defend her attacks at point blank that easily then she will never hurt him. What should she do? She could only think that as she grit her teeth.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above.
