《Andromeda's Tears》Chapter Six - Driving Ms. Reed

Chapter six
The atmosphere inside of the car as they drove to Jillian's house was exceedingly awkward, the cloying silence only rarely being broken by the announcements that periodically burst out from the car's police radio. Eventually Briggs couldn't take it anymore and he shut off the the radio and tried to make conversation.
"So, how are you feeling Ms Reed?"
Jillian was a very solitary person. The silence might have been cloying and awkward for Briggs but for Jillian it was perfectly normal, in fact she sometimes spent entire afternoons doing nothing but sitting down in absolute silence just thinking about some things. Jillian was comfortable in the silence and so she wasn't used to making inane conversation because she felt that it served no purpose. Ultimately Jillian was judged to be awkward, unfriendly and antisocial with her strange behavioral quirks but deep inside she was a very kind hearted and polite person so she tried to smile without grimacing in pain and answered, "I'm feeling much better Detective Briggs. Thanks again for taking me to the hospital."
Briggs almost sighed in relief when he saw that Jillian was trying to be sociable. Jillian was famous in the station for being a no nonsense kind of woman. She had been asked out by many of the cops but she had flatly rejected all of them. Eventually they even started a betting pool to see who would bag 'the frigid crusader' as she was known in the station, last time he heard that the pot had reached thirty three grand without showing any sign of being collected anytime soon. Jillian was always professional to the point of being standoffish, flattery rolled off her without phasing her, trying to flirt with her would only result in her tilting her head and looking at you like you were speaking in a foreign language. She was unattainable which made her even more attractive. Briggs imagined what would happen if they found out exactly how devastatingly sexy she was when she wasn't hiding her body and he couldn't help but shiver when he envisioned the frenzy it would cause. His eyes involuntarily peeked towards Jillian whose body had once again been wrapped in layers of clothing and he remembered exactly how she looked with only a thin layer of cloth covering her. The image was almost literally seared into his mind, he knew that those ridiculous curves that would give any formula one racer a headache were going to keep him up for many a night.

Eventually he realized that he hadn't looked at the road for a dangerously long period of time so he hurriedly shifted his attention back to driving and spoke while trying to give the off the impression that he wasn't flustered and that he was as cool as a cucumber,"I'm not really working right now, please call me Ed."
Jillian didn't know what was going through Brigg's mind. She did know that some people found her attractive but she had never understood such things. Sure she understood the underlying biological ,psychological, and physiological principles underlying the whole reproduction thing but she never believed in "falling in love". She does find some men sexually attractive but that was about it. She also knew that her attitude probably stemmed from the fact that her father had abandoned her mother making it difficult for her to trust men in that way but she did want to fix her attitude. She didn't even see it as a problem. To her, love and romance were unnecessary. She got sexual urges now and then but she could take care of those on her own with the help of the appropriate equipment. Jillian had long discarded useless things that had to do with male female relations so she didn't realize that Briggs was trying to get more familiar with her by getting on a first name basis. When he asked her to call him Ed , she responded without thinking, "Alright Ed, you can call me Jill."
She had automatically wanted to extend the same courtesy he was extending her and thought that it was the polite thing to do so she didn't understand why Briggs had a big grin on his face for the remainder of the trip.

Only Villains Do That
While waiting on an Akihabara train platform one day, ordinary high schooler Yoshi Shinonome was suddenly plucked from his normal life in Japan and whisked away by a beautiful goddess to Ephemera, a world of magic and adventure, to serve as her Hero and drive back the evil Dark Lord. This is not his story. Standing nearby at the moment Yoshi was isekai'd was a man named Seiji - a rude, cranky, misanthropic musician who was not at all pleased to find himself also snatched up and transported to Ephemera by the goddess's wicked sister, Virya. According to this self-proclaimed Goddess of Evil, the whole fantasy adventure thing was a game she and her sister played to stave off the boredom of immortality, and since the good goddess, Sanora, had picked her Hero...well, Virya needed a Dark Lord. A grown man with his own career and ambitions, Seiji has no interest in playing. Unfortunately for him, the call to adventure was not a request. Now, he must conquer Ephemera and defeat the Hero...or Virya promises to make him beg for the release of death before granting it. Playing along for his own survival, Seiji nonetheless is under no illusions who his true enemy is, and it's not the naive young would-be Hero from his own world. Placed in an impossible position, Seiji must make enough progress toward world domination to keep his sadistic patron goddess off his back, but not so much that he can't strike an accord with the forces of Good and convince the Hero Yoshi that it's the goddesses who are their mutual enemy. Forced to embrace Evil without being too evil, Seiji walks the razor's edge, building his forces and biding his time till he can get revenge on the goddesses and be free of them, his only certainty that he will not be getting out of this with his hands clean. A Dark Lord's gotta do what a Dark Lord's gotta do. Updates Tuesday and Friday. Most Patreon tiers get to read one chapter in advance of the public release!

Midthalion Saga
+++Working on new chapters. Share what I've posted with your friends and family! Be sure to build strong bonds with those who are important to you. We only have each other in this world for so long!+++ Can Roderick XXIII gather together and train a party of adventurers to clear out Madeon Caves and bring peace to the wildmarches of Midthalion? Sent from his home monastery in the west to the wildmarches of Midthalion, Roderick the Holy Avenger is devoted to living out his oath to bring the Holy Light to the dark corners of the world. He enlists the help of an old friend, Ulrich Vogelbrandt the dwarf druid, to train and prepare a fighting force capable of defending the west from the evil they both see gathering and growing in the east. Eoroth is an ode to Tolkienesque epic fantasy, Robert E Howard and H.P. Lovecraft's pulp fiction, and Gygaxian Dungeons & Dragons. I like to write about serious topics because I think it's fun. I hope it makes for a fun read. Place: Eoroth, a vast, flat world with many continents set in oceans that reach out and mingle with the Celestial Sea. Our story takes place on the continent of Thalion in the middle, unsettled region called Midthalion. Peoples: Races in Eoroth aren't different species; the species of man is just incredibly diverse, consisting of many known races (and perhaps some unknown). There are no humans in Thalion. Thalion's races include variations of elves, dwarves, halflings (billowits), pierros (clownish men), bergeracs (long-nosed and swarthy men of honour), orcs, trolls, goblins, and hobgobs. The Church: There's one dominant religion in Westhalion. The faith of the elves is an analogue to Roman Catholicism while the dwarves practice an Eastern Orthodox analogue. (Forgive me for not having figured out names yet.) The practitioners worship a triune god (the All-Father, Son-of-All, and Holy Light). There are many powers in heaven, all created by God. These include the Twelve High Thrones, individual, created beings who take on the role of guiding mankind in different aspects, drawing them closer and closer to God. (That should be the essentials. I could write pages on the theology. Comment where something's unclear in the story.) Natural World: There are plants and animals in Eoroth, but the world is also inhabited by spirits called aeons. Aeons are transformative beings; in the wild, they'll change based on whatever is happening nearby. Pollute a pond? Expect to see toxic toad-men running around. Leave a bunch of dead bodies strewn across a battlefield? Expect the place to become haunted with ghouls and ghasts. Druids are important for making sure that the aeons are pacified; that their needs are met so that they don't become rampaging monsters. Where the wilderness becomes overgrown, so too do the aeons. Aeons and People: Long ago, men learned how to trap aeons in stone tablets and use them for war. Now, anyone can capture an aeon into a special staff made by a druid. Men train, raise, and bond with these aeons. Druids often build entire ranches devoted to raising healthy aeons as allies and companions. Aeons are divided into twelve known families, and the church sees these as corresponding with the Twelve Thrones in Heaven. Direction: My goal is to get the story to one million words by June next year. I have tons of content in mind for the world. I want to release novels set in different ages of the world depicting different historical events. I hope to expand the setting into a tabletop role-playing game as well as a series of old-school JRPGs. But, it all begins with writing some stories and publishing my novels.
