《Arden's place》Chapter 9

The shop resembled a warehouse with many products. There was an office just to the right of the entrance to the building. When Arden and Alex walked in, the man sitting in the office stood up and walked to the door.
“Old dog Alex, what are you doing here?” he laughed and walked over to where Arden and Alex were.
“Drunkard Higgs, stop your bullshit, I brought you a client,” said Alex seriously.
“Oh, sorry for that, how can I help you, Mr.?”
It was usually big business when Alex brought clients to Higgs. Realizing that the incident was serious, he immediately changed his mood and began to act like a gentleman.
“Hi, Mr. Higgs please call me Arden, I'm opening an inn and Mr Alex recommended you for the furniture.”
"Of course, let's go to my office, we can talk more comfortably there"
Higgs, pointing to the office with his hand, directed him to Alex and Arden's office, then asked one of his employees to send 3 cups of tea, and he went to the office.
After Higgs sat down at his desk, he turned to Arden and spoke.
“What exactly do you need?”
“About 60 single beds for almost everything, curtains, wardrobes, 30 carpets, kitchen utensils and if possible alcohol brewing tools.”
As Arden spoke, Higgs knew he had hit the jackpot. He glanced at Alex out of the corner of his eye and saw her grin towards him.
“My friend, unless you make a discount for Mr. Arden. I would lose my whole face,” said Alex.
Alex wasn't trying to fool Arden at all. It not only saved him the trouble of going to the store separately but also offered his close friend the opportunity to do business.
“Of course, my friend, I will sell it at the best price, don't worry,” he said and burst out laughing. His business was going through a rough time and this job could help him get through this difficult time.

Just then, the office door opened and the employee in the warehouse came to work with 3 cups of hot tea in his hand.
While sipping tea, Arden and Higgs discussed in more detail what the inn needed. When the numbers were final, Higgs fell silent. Looking at the piece of paper in front of him, he was calculating the amount Arden had to pay.
“Mr arden makes a total of 6 gold and 45 silvers, but for Mr Alex's sake and I can enumerate everything you count for 6 gold.”
“The inn will open in 2 weeks, can you make it to this date? You also have to carry it.”
“Don't worry, I'll collect all the materials in 1-1.5 weeks. It's our job to deliver and install," said higgs
“Then we agreed.”
Arden was happy that he was done. Finally, as soon as the inn was built, it was ready for opening. After they finished their tea, Arden paid all the money by check and they left Higgs' shop.
Arden decided to leave Alex and go to the inn when the carriage came to the town square.

“Hey man, did you hear about the recent events?”
"What are you talking about, man?"
“From the [6 Wanderers] team, their most recent mission failed, Two-sword Edgar lost his arm and two of the team members were badly injured.”
“Weren't they gem level? What job did they take?
Sitting at the inn, Arden had involuntarily overheard what was being said at the next table. The topic they talked about was very interesting. Gem rank teams were extremely rare, and anyone who was into adventurers knew them. And it was a pretty big deal for such a team to fail a mission. He silently sipped his beer while listening to the rest of the conversation.

"Okay okay I'm telling you, calm down. [6 Wanderers] went to the lands of 100 kingdoms for a mission. While passing through one kingdom, the king learned that a jewel-level Team had arrived in his kingdom and held a ball for them. At the ball, the king talked about the dragon attack that took place 10 years ago and the relics that the dragon stole from the kingdom's treasury."
The man who made the speech continued to speak after wetting his throat with the beer in front of him. Arden was listening carefully so as not to miss anything.
“Of course, they understood the king's intention from his speeches and agreed to the task. If the team can kill the dragon and bring back the stolen relics, half of the relics will be theirs. Of course, the King forgot to tell the [six Wanderers] one tiny thing.”
The man stopped talking and took a big swig of his beer.
Due to the timing, the friends sitting at the storyteller's table and Arden swore a silent curse at the man.
“The [Six Wanderers] after a long struggle found the mountain where the dragon's cave is located. But what they encountered shocked them. Because the Dragon was not a normal dragon. The legendary black dragon is malafet. When the team realized they had screwed up, Edgar quickly took a defensive position, stalling the dragon while the rest of the team ripped up the teleport scroll they had been saving for life and death and narrowly escaped.”
“So, what happened next?”
“The team has decided to leave the lands of 100 kingdoms and come here.”
"What? Team [6 Wanderers] coming to Askarta?”
"Yes, my friend, that's what I heard, maybe their ship is already moored in a port."
When Arden realized that the story was over, he stopped listening to the next table.
“We were only missing our legendary dragons,” he muttered. He realized that he was no longer as surprised at such things as before, and chuckled.
Taking a large swig of his beer, he saw the inn door open. The person who walked through the door was Matt.
Seeing Arden, Matt walked over to him and sat down at the table. Arden looked at Matt, smiling.
“Would you like to hear a story about dragons and the group of gem-level adventurers?”

So, don't take it too seriously despite the first few chapters, or I'll punish you in the name of that big floaty thing in the sky. A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.
