《Overlord》Ch 1: Awakening

Riku woke up to water droplets falling on his face. He murmured, “Yelmin, stop messing with me. Let me sleep in a bit longer.”
He turned over on his side and groaned; he felt run down and tired. After sometime, reality set in and he remembered the events that led to his current condition.
“I’m sorry, Yelmin, you deserved a better end. Wait for me in the afterlife; I will join you once I avenge you and kill that son-of-a-bitch whose lust for power turned our peaceful life upside down.”
Having made his resolve, Riku opened his eyes and took in his surroundings. He had collapsed at the cave entrance near a pool. Groaning loudly, Riku rolled over onto his side to get closer to the pool and see his reflection.
“Holy shit, I look terrible,” Riku said.
Bruises covered his face and arms. He attempted to move his legs and yelped in pain. He looked down in shock: a branch had inserted its way into his left thigh. Multiple gashes covered his legs, but his flesh was wiggling, healing at a visible rate. His gaze proceeded upwards; and observed that the hole in his chest had all but fully healed.
“What’s happening to me? Do I have some super healing powers now?”
Riku decided to test out his theory and ripped out the branch from his leg. Blood gushed out of the wound. Within a few minutes, the blood clotted.
“That old bastard will be in for a surprise when we meet again.” Riku smiled evilly. “Now let’s go and explore this cave some more.”
Grunting, Riku rose to his feet, scanned his surroundings, and wandered deeper into the cave. He observed some strange markings on the right cave wall depicting a dance of some sort involving a staff and sword. With his hand against the wall, he traced the images depicted on the wall until he reached a dead end.

On the wall was an inscription that read, “What price would you pay for power?”
Riku walked up to the wall and placed his hand against it. He felt a prickling cold sensation on his palm and tried to pull his hand away; he couldn’t move his arm at all.
He heard a voice in his mind stating, “Good luck on your trial.”
When the voice finished speaking, tremors filled the cave, Riku’s hand was freed, and he tumbled down a hole that opened up beneath him. When he got his bearings back, Riku noticed that he had ended up in a cavern—in the center of a circle. Around the circle, the pictures Riku observed were scattered around the cavern.
Clang!
A sound reverberated around the cavern, startling Riku. His head snapped upwards and was shocked by a pitch-black sword and a clear-blue staff floating in midair one on either side of the cavern.
Words appeared out of nowhere around the weapons, “A millennia ago, two legendary figures challenged each other to see who was strongest. They fought for thirty days straight only to collapse at the same time, their fall to earth created a huge hole in the ground. With their remaining energies, they created this cavern to pass down the skills that they had created over their lifetimes. You have the opportunity to become one or both of their disciples if you choose to undergo three trials. Will you sacrifice everything for this opportunity?”
“Yes.”

Viceroy's Pride
This story could be about the Tellask Empire, ruler of a thousand suns and faced with imminent peril at the hands of the Orakh hordes. It could be about Paltai Amberell, the scion of a noble elven House, fallen upon hard times and seeking to find the key that will restore his family's name and save the Empire itself. It could be the story of his voidship, The Viceroy's Pride, powered by magic and crewed by a team of crack marines as they search for adventure and the solution to the Empire's myriad problems. Instead, this is the story of Daniel Thrush, human electrical engineer, befuddled researcher and survivor of the debacle that was first contact with a spacefaring civilization. Due to a combination of luck, magic, hard work, and more luck he is thrust into the center of events as Earth is shoved onto a much larger stage rife with semi-immortal elves and magical kingdoms that predate the Earthly invention of agriculture. Earth is outnumbered, and we have precisely one wizard. Dan. He's not very good at it, but he's going to have to learn in a hurry or watch everything he knows get torn apart by massive spacefaring empires straight from the pages of a fantasy novel. ---------- Some readers have noted that the MC tends to be weak willed and pushed around a bit. A significant portion of the story is his character growth into not being a pushover (i.e. him being passive is in the early chapters on purpose). I'm just including this caveat/warning to make sure that readers aren't surprised/upset and that they stick with it until he learns to stand up for himself. His arc begins to crystallize around chapters 25-27. If that's too long to wait, I get it, I'm just trying to do my due diligence and warn you that the character development is a bit of a slow burn. This is NOT a harem novel. Nothing against them, just not what it is. --------- Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday Feel free to bother me on our discord- Discord!

Warden of Success - A LitRPG
In the future of Earth humans are no longer the dominant species. Monsters, vampires, elves and all manners of otherworldly threats now threaten the planet and its people. And for one such as Camille, there was nothing she could do. A failed martial artist, Camille swallowed her pride and dreams, all the while sinking into the world of video games. Until she died. Reawakening with newfound power in her very own bed, there's no doubting that she's an oddity. And as the only individual in the world with the body of a video game character, she's ecstatic. No longer will she just be content with playing games in her dark room, taking over fantasy worlds as a great heroine. Rather, she'll do something better. And that'll be to take over the real one instead. Whether it be mages, demons or other supernatural entities that stand in her way, it doesn't matter. Camille may be a level one at first, but dammit if she wasn't going to try to reach one hundred. This is not a crunchy LitRPG and gradually becomes more of a character driven story that just happens to have a main character with LitRPG abilities. There will be a variety of powers/abilities that are explored later in the setting involving magic systems and other technological advancements. The first 10 chapters were written with satirical undertones, but begin to develop more into its own entity after that.
