《The Story of how I died and was reborn in another world as a Half-Demi》Chapter 7 - Which one?

So, we should get ourselves a pet. But, what would fit?

Some would say, a pet has to be cute.

Some, that it has to be able to learn tricks.

Others say, that it has to be friendly, and other others, that it has to be strong.

So, what would fit all these criteria?

A dragon cub.

But they’re no pets! They just run into me, and I (try) to accommodate them! So, I have to find something else. Well, Lenius would have fit those criteria four years ago, too. So just find another Cerberushorn?

Ah, no, I think it would be better if I look what animals I run into while waling around randomly. But I won’t choose the salamander, that one would probably frighten everyone. Oh, right, my taming affinity should be 7 now. What does it do?

Woah, although there still is the possibility to fail, I could even tame Rank S monsters. I want to know, what stage 8 would do. And what would this affinity evolve into? Well, it is important to use it. I should level up Life and Neutral affinities, or the taming ability directly.

Where should I wander randomly around now? Probably even deeper into the woods, I’ll find some nice ones there for sure. Time to use the dragon wings! I got around 1 and a half million MP, that should be more than enough.

[half an hour later]

That place seems good. Where the forest ends, the mountains begin, and a little meadow is. There are even little waterfalls, creating creeks, which are flowing into a small pond. It just looks like the perfect place to calm down.

[about two hours later]

*yawn* Eh, what?

Oh right, I couldn’t restrain myself from trying to relax, and I fell asleep right away. But something is odd… Probably just my imagination. This wolf was probably here before. Or is this his territory? And what about that bear? There’s an eagle too. They’re probably relaxing here too. So nothing to worry about. Maybe.

Why exactly is this place so relaxing? I don’t think that it’s just because of how the surroundings look like. But, who cares. Better, it is relaxing, than frightening. Should just relax another round. Still, I shouldn’t forget the pet for school.

[some more time later…]

*yaaawn* Oh. It’s dusk. Did she even say by when? I don’t think so. But if it is until tomorrow, I should get one fast. Well, what options do I have? Oops. That’s going to be quite difficult. We have some tall squirrels, the three I have seen before, uhm… what does a panther do here? There are some rabbits too, and a deer! I like deer! No further worries needed, I’ll take him! Or her? Who cares! Its antlers and hooves (Are those hooves?) have a tinge of red and orange… ‘Inspect’

Can I tame this one? Which level does the taming magic even depend on? Probably a combination of strength and intelligence.

Yosh! Let’s try it!

I hope it works.

Oh, man. Come on, I have still got three more tries!

So?

If this was a novel, it would probably just work on the fourth time, just to build up suspense. But this is no novel, so it should hopefully work now!

I mean, this deer is really cool, I wanna have it as a pet! It may be mythical, but who gives a damn about stuff like that?

Well, it takes some time this time.

[Two minutes later]

Nothing happens? Is this good or bad? ‘Inspect’

YES IT WORKED!

(Lupin) “Woo-hoo!”

Well, I probably shouldn’t have shouted, … They’re totally annoyed now..

This time, I wanted some special wings. To be precise, some silver ones, similar to Artemis ones. I like them. Gimir seemingly couldn’t believe his eyes as I had some dragon wings grown out of my body (It hurts a bit to grow wings out of my back, by the way).

(Gimir)

(Lupin)

(Gimir)

He probably didn’t know what to say. Or he just accepted it. Oh, right, is he even able to evolve? I have to ask him later about that.

(Lupin)

*grabs Gimir*

(Gimir)

(Lupin)

*Starts flying*

(Gimir)

(Lupin)

Actually, I don’t know my maximum sprinting speed. I never tried, because I feared to rip my muscles and tendons apart…

So, as you can probably imagine, as I tried to accelerate… I ‘accidentally’ broke through the sound barrier. Gimir almost vomited, and I slowed down.

*they enter the house*

(Lupin) “Hi. I’m back!”

(Aurora) “Lupin, could you help us with the dragon cubs? Please!”

(Gimir)

(Martin) “Nine more appeared today! We should give them an own house by now!”

(Lupin) “Well, lets hope that there will be no more appearing…”

(Caelum)

(Lupin)

(Lupin) “OKAY GUYS, CALM DOWN AND SIT DOWN!”

*Nine dragons stopped playing around, but three still didn’t stop.*

One of them is dark grey, while the other one is completely black. Their eyes are yellow, and their bellies and wings are light-grey.

How could I name them?

Mara, Grima,…

Njola, Myrknaetti, Hokunatt, Norr, …

Irpa, Yoru, …

They’re all red, but different kinds of red… One of them reminds me of fire (3), another one of roses (4), the third one of summer (5), the fourth one of blood (7) and the last one of life (9).

By the way, this one is probably an opportunist.

(Lupin)

(Nadhra)

(Lupin)

By the way, his name may sound cool, but it basically means lizard or snake! A little anecdote to his idiocy. Well, even his appearance has many similarities to a snake.

So, I should get to the border now, and build a large house. Probably two or three floors. The area should probably be bigger than our house. And it should be harder than the house I built for Victima. I probably could build it out of Rubynia wood, if I concentrate hard enough. How long do I have to concentrate for that one? An hour? At least I can train my mental endurance with that one.

How should it look like? For the size, a little mansion should be appropriate, thinking of the era I am living in. And rather western style. Juuuust concentrate.

[Three minutes later]

Ah, cut the crap, I’ll do the outsides first and then the rest!

*Mansion appears*

See? It worked! Well… without windows. I should make them too. But later. At first, the rooms. But what about the doors? How do the dragons enter? If I make a kind of cat flaps, it will be weird. If I don’t make any doors, anybody could enter. If I make doors, how do the dragons open them?

Could I make not any doors, and the dragons choose, whom they allow to enter? With some kind of barrier? But I’d have to research that one… Some kind of button maybe. Or lever. Or pressure plate. Maybe a special code for everyone, as I put ten different coloured pressure plates on the floor before the door? But how to add codes… I should ask in the city, if there are any security measures. I could probably ask the landlord himself, what security measures are possible. If there is anything, which is unique for every lifeform, we could use that one for identification instead.

[Went to the landlord’s house]

(Landlord) “Oh, hello, Lupin. Is there anything you want?”

(Lupin) “Actually, I want to know, if there are any security measures for protecting something.”

(Landlord) “There are some. But why do you want to know them?”

(Lupin) “I kind of have some dragon cubs following me, and I want to protect them from strangers.”

(Landlord) “Did you just say ‘dragon cub’? Claire found one today. The weird thing is, it doesn’t seem to want to get away.”

(Lupin) “Oh really? Do its scales let it look similar to a bear?”

(Landlord) “It does. Did it probably run away from you?”

(Lupin) “It did, but it did so, because it had problems with staying with me. Called me a weakling and so. I showed him what I could do, and it ran away crying for help. I didn’t hurt it, by the way.”

(Landlord) “So, you showed it how you were able to bite into dragon scales, probably?”

(Lupin) “I did.”

(Landlord) “No wonder. You could bite a Great Dragon to death, how frightened must a dragon cub be, if it doesn’t know, if you’re going to harm it or not?”

(Lupin) “I get it, I get it. So, back to what I originally wanted to know: What types of security measures are there?”

(Landlord) “As we are talking about dragon cubs, which should be able to open the door at will, there is only one possibility left: The Magidentify Device. Depending on where you get it, you probably are even able to identify up to 25 people/life forms.”

(Lupin) “I need at least 20, could you give me a recommendation where to buy it?”

(Landlord) “At least twenty you said? You will only be able to get this quality in the Capital. And the capital is far to the east, at least an eight day ride by carriage.”

(Lupin) “How long would it normally take to get to the middle of the forest in the south?”

(Landlord) “I don’t know, why you want to know that, but I don’t know by myself, but my Butler, Sebastian, once said, that to go through the forest, you need at least two months by foot. If you’re fast. The distance is about double the way to the Capital and back.”

(Lupin) “And how much would the Magidentify Device cost, if I got to the capital?”

(Landlord) “The one I have, which can identify up to 12 people, has cost three platin coins. One with 20 would cost about seven. Probably. I can send one for you to the Capital, if you want.”

(Lupin) “No, thanks, but I think, I’ll be faster on my own.”

(Landlord) “If you say so. One of your parents must’ve been a wolfdemi, they’re quite fast, but I don’t think that alone would do. You surely have your own secrets.”

(Lupin) “Well, I have to go now, and get it. Tell Claire to take good care of the cub!”

[Activates Dragon Wings while going out of the room]

(Lupin) “Oops. Well, here’s the secret!”

(Landlord) “Looks like you’ve eaten many dragon scales!”

(Lupin) “The faster I fly, the greater the pressure. If I fly too fast, it crushes me.”

[goes out of the mansion and starts to fly]

Well, I still don’t know, if I should bring either Gimir or another one to school. Gimir would be easier, but if I show him to them, even Azusa could possibly faint. It basically is said to be mythical.

I’ll think about that later.
