《Kali Yuga》Chapter 7. Girls Dormitory.

When Huang Wen slept that day, he was at level 12. He was exhausted but even then he couldn't sleep peacefully. His sleep was full of various nightmare. He hadn't taken a bath for three days now. He didn't even think about it but this morning he suddenly noticed how bad his smell was.
Something different that day, for the first time after the incident, he took a bath. He felt refreshed. He rubbed all the dirt from his skin. Even several zombies outside couldn't prevent him from taking a bath.
He walked out of the shower with a refreshed mind and body and when he stepped out it was like the rest of the fog that covering his mind in the past few days. Finally, it was cleared away. He allowed himself a minute to take a deep breath while watching the vast blue sky. Some zombies began to notice him and he was back to battle mode.
Huang Wen moved swiftly between the scattered zombies on the road. Once and a while his sword flashed and a zombie died. Unfortunately at his level, killing tens of zombies didn't give him much experience and with his current power and stamina, he was still limited to killing 14 zombies before he ran out of stamina. That was why, he preferred to avoid the zombies as much as he could.
His eyes kept moving and taking various information around the area, like several routes he could take to enter the girl's dormitory. If he needed to escape, where he should go. Was there a way to go to the upper floor without using the stairs. Etc.
Within minutes, Huang Wen already entered the girl's dormitory. The first thing he did was scanned his surroundings with his third eye.
He didn't see any little demons around the entrance, but his entrance attracted several zombies toward his direction. Huang Wen didn't want to stand there a minute longer. He began to move toward the nearest room without killing any zombies. He was going to use his limited stamina to clear the room for him to rest and restore his stamina. The layout of the girl's dormitory seemed similar to boys dormitory building. Only they had much nicer decoration and arrangement.
Huang Wen quickly ran to enter the nearest room, with his speed and the sharp katana, the zombies only chance to stop him was to surround him and use their number to deplete his stamina. As long as Huang Wen could find a safe place before his stamina totally depleted he will be safe and he did not waste his stamina by fighting the zombies.
His speed kept him ahead of the zombies, fortunately they have no intelligence and could only move toward his position, which made it easier for Huang Wen to fool them around. He didn't enter the room as soon as he met one, he gave a quick scanned, when he saw that there were less than 10 or at most, there were only 10 zombies in there, he quickly entered the room.
His katana moved like a lightning. Within seconds he killed three zombies in a series of vicious attack. He didn't waste time to push desk, a rack, a book shelf and threw various other little things to block the door as he moved between the zombies inside the room and killed them. It wasn't easy for normal people, but he was no longer normal. Of course, it was only due to the zombies slow movement and their low intelligence that made it possible.
But Huang Wen realized now that the biggest threat wasn't those zombies. There were invisible little demons that actually created the horde of zombies. Zombies alone with their slow movement and low intelligence would never have a chance to create such catastrophe.

Which is why, as soon as he cleared the room from the zombies he used his 3rd eye to check it out. Only when he certain that there was no little invisible demon in there he felt a bit better. He still had many things to do though. Outside the room, the zombies began to amass. Fortunately, it took time for them to clear various stuff that blocked the door. Huang Wen on the other hand needed time to rest, assesses his situation and thought a better plan.
In that situation, he was quite calmed and relaxed, because he faced a similar situation many times these past few days.
He calmly observed the zombies using his third eyes. Yesterday when the little demon said that they put some kind of spiritual link between them and the zombies, Huang Wen did try to see that link but couldn't find one.
Perhaps that little demon was lying but he rather suspected that it happened because he killed the little demon. He checked it again this time, since one of his goal today was to find another little demon. He was thinking that if he couldn't sense or saw that spiritual link on the zombies in this building. He'd rather leave this building which obviously swarmed with zombies.
After all the dormitory housed more than 2000 girls even if half of them enjoying the weekend, that would be 1000 zombies for him to handle.
He'd rather run fast to find an office building or other building which seemed less populated to set it up as his temporary base as he made his way to find that special place which no demon could enter.
He half hoped that he won't see any sign of such link and had a reason to leave but whether it was fortunate or unfortunate event, he did see such link. Something like a thread could be seen hovering in the air. These threads attached to the zombies and could be traced toward the stairs.
It also proved another Huang Wen's suspicion that although the demons could be said as a spiritual being. It didn't means that they have no physical substance at all.
Obviously there was something physical about them. Otherwise his blade wouldn't be able to hurt them and why that little demon tried to run through the windows, rather like a ghost in movies simply passed through the walls? That's why he hypothesized that they somehow have certain kind of physical substances. Even the little demons said that the stronger they were, the more their physical body solidified.
He couldn't be more excited to see those threads, but at the same time if he imagined the work he needed to do, he couldn't help but groaned.
He restored half of his stamina when the zombies broke through into the room.
Huang Wen waited until many of the zombies entered the room before he casually threw a chair through the window and followed it seconds later. With his current agility he easily climbed a tree on the side yard and then jumped into one of the windows that near the tree. He already had his eye on that tree before he entered the dormitory.
The zombies simply chased him, none of them who chased Huang Wen had an idea to use the stairs and caught him on the second floor but of course there were other zombies waiting for Huang Wen on the second floor. Their low intelligence and slow movement, simply covered by their number and tenacity.
Huang Wen jumped through the window and entered another room. From few rooms he could reach. He picked a room with the least zombies in it. He was lucky because he noticed there was one room with its door still intact. The first thing he did, was to close the door and blocked it with a shelf near the door.

Just like the zombies on the first floor, the zombies here also have a strand of thread attached to them. He watched that thread closely as the door closed. It didn't break the thread. It simply went through the small gap between the door. It wasn't a big surprise, he just wanted to make sure.
Huang Wen quickly killed the zombies, but left one alive. He forcefully pressed her on the floor.
His mind suddenly turned into some perverted ideas. When there were many of them, it switched on the survival mode. Now, that he perceived no threat to his life, the perverted idea kicked in. The fact that he was on top of the girl right now, made him wanted to do something to her even more.
Huang Wen could imagine millions of thumb down and angry comments on any social media if someone saw his action. He cynically chuckled. His current being was beyond normal. His eyes fell on the zombie's breast. A conflict arose in his heart. No one saw him, but just the thought of taking advantage over her, made his conscience troubled.
At the end, he gritted his teeth and suppressed the desires. He put his mind on dealing with the demon.
He forcefully steel his heart and coldly removed any part of its body that could wound him and infected him. Without hands, legs and teeth, it could be said that he truly treated "her" cruelly. If it happened during a better time when someone used to record it on cam and shared it, even if he did it to a dangerous zombie, probably there would be thousands or hundred thousands netizens condemned him.
After some thought, he even went further by removing any part that added weight and could be removed without killing the zombie. After that Huang Wen put the zombie girl in a self made sack, he moved her near the opened window and could see that the wisp strand of threat now take the shortest route which was toward certain room on the fourth floor.
When all was done, not even the slightest perverted ideas passed his mind. He felt disgusted and nauseated by his own action. Even if he cynically made a joke out of it, it wasn't lessened his feeling of guilty by much. It made him angry.
Just to make sure that it was safe, he taped her mouth before he slung the self made a sack on his back, next to his katana.
Once again he determined to focus his mind on the demon. He put all his anger and his guilt onto the demon's responsibility.
From the window, he kept looking for the safest route toward that room on the fourth floor. If it was possible, he would rather climb the wall then having to go through a horde of zombies outside the room. There was a drainage pipe, installed next to the window.
He needed to stretch a bit far, to reach it, but it wasn't impossible. It seemed sturdy as well. Climbed that drainage pipe, he could reach the fourth floor and then with a bit daredevil act he could reach one of the room on the fourth floor.
Crack !
One of the zombies broke the door.
Huang Wen decided to take the risk. As elegant as a cat, he leaped toward the drainage pipe and with both hands he grabbed it tightly.
He could feel the pipe shook a bit and there was nothing he could do but pray. When his heart calmed down, he began to climb the drainage pipe toward the fourth floor. He looked back at the room he just left and saw several zombie's heads and hands appeared from its opened window.
He kept climbing and smoothly entered one of the rooms on the fourth floor. He had no other option, which is why he felt relieved when he saw the room was well locked and there was no zombies inside the room. Apparently who ever live in this room, they were enjoying their Sunday back then. He put the zombies on the floor, near the broken window. Walked toward one of the bed and gladly dropped his body there.
He could smell something nice.
Girls dormitory, definitely an entirely different realm compared to boys dormitory.
He watched the thread that was attached to his little demon radar. After made a way outside, it floated to the left. Huang Wen still rested for a few minutes, before he checked where that thread headed. He leaned out the window and watched that thread entered the same room as before.
'This little demons seemed kind of lazy aren't they? Once they infected enough zombies, they'll just laze around all day. Can't blame them though, if I can level up in a similar way then I would. It's much safer than risking yourself.', Huang Wen thought to himself.
He rested to restore his stamina and at the same time to plan the best way to approach the location of the little demon quietly. He carefully tried to measure the distant from the window of one room to another room. There was around 4 meters, between the window of one room to another. He knew he could jump that far and tried to grab at the windows frame or sill.
There was no guarantee that he would succeed through and if he fell, he would fall from 9 meters high. He could make another bed sheet rope, just as a safety measurement. Once he safely reached the other room, he could make another one using a bed sheet in that room.
If he could pull it, then he might be able to get closer without attracting the little demon's attention. As he rested, when he didn't make the bed sheet rope, he would observe the thread and it seemed the little demon didn't change its location.
'Is he trying to set a trap for me?', he wondered.
'Could those demons see and hear through the eyes and ears of their zombies?'
Huang Wen who didn't know much about the link between the zombies and its demon, asked many questions and was busy speculating for the worst situation.
By the time his stamina fully restored, he stopped speculating. There was time for thinking the worst possibility and there was time for just go for it and prepared to face the worst. You can't get a baby tiger without entering the tiger cave.
So Huang Wen squatted on the windows sill. He fixed his eyes on the next windows sill and leaped.
For a few seconds, there was nothing but that windows sill in his sight and all other senses simply quietened. Time was stopped. When he reached it safely, when his foot stepped on it and when his two hands gripped the windows frame, time started to move again and he could hear his heart was thumping hard inside his chest.
The windows were closed and locked from the inside, using his katana he tried hard to forcefully slipped it between the gap to unlock the window. It wasn't easy and there were some grating noises but he chose it rather than simply broke the glass as usual.
It took times but he safely entered that room. He took off the bed sheet rope and tied it at the windows lock.
Either he was lucky, or the little demon did try to set a trap for him. This room was empty too and the door was locked. Huang Wen went to check the door. There was no sign of damage at all. He put his ears on the wall to the next room and there was no noise at all.
He made another bed sheet rope using bed sheets from this room while restoring his stamina and repeated the process. One room by one room, he moved closer to the room where the thread that was attached to the zombie went through.
Finally he reached the room next to the final room. He didn't dare trying to sense if there was any little demon in the next room. The sense he accidentally used when he felt the first little demon presence. He called it spiritual sense, to differentiate it from his third eye skill, which he called spiritual eye. With third eye, he actually similar to sight. He saw, although it wasn't similar with seeing with his physical eyes, but it was the same faculty of seeing.
Mean while when he sensed, he just sensed it, he didn't see anything or heard anything, he just felt that something was there.
He was afraid that the demon might be able to sense such thing.
He put his ears on the wall and this time he could hear faint noises from the room. In fact it seemed like there were few people in the next room. There were having a conversation at that time. This wasn't something he was expecting. Of course there was a chance that the thread didn't end in that room but if the little demon was in another room, why the thread entered that room?
If the thread followed the nearest route, then either that little demon was in that room, or in the room in front of it.
He sighed, this time it took quite some time before he made a decision.

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!
