《Pedlar of Another World》Pedlar of Another World - Chapter 29

[A real battle is different from what I had tried. War is not child play.]
With the Wrist Bracer and the Demonic Air Shooter is in hand, I prepared myself as I followed the guards and other volunteers to went out to the main gate, as I take a look on how well the guards of the city fight when the goblin is attacking. But the disappointment soon came to me as all I could see is a scattered pile of sand with people randomly positioned themselves while awaiting the goblins to come over and attack them. The planks and barriers that were erected are poorly made, and perhaps with only three to four goblins is required, and the defensive planks would all fall. Not only this, the guards are not too well equipped either, in compared to the Elite Riders that was once led by the Team Leader Ling Tian Ming.
I am slightly disappointed, but since I am nowhere in position to comment about the others, I only took my advantageous weapon as I hid behind a plan that has three quite big holes on it. This would be a very good shield for me to use as my weapon is a ranged one. With the instantly damaging Deadly Type Demonic Metal Slugs, I can quickly land an attack on the goblins before they actually get closer to me. The group waited for a while, but since there is no movement yet, everyone is in a very relaxed attitude.
I felt slightly weird because no matter what, there had already been about an hour after the initial news is spread out. Even as a rough guess, the goblins should be already around the city by now. Suspicious on something similar to the Rear entrance last time, I quickly did a scan around me. Up to my surprise, there is actually already six goblins nearby us, because my Scan skill reaches only 7 metres from my initial distance.
I stand up and quickly aimed at where the dot is located, and as my action surprised the other guards, they too, quickly got tense and check their surroundings. Aid with the scan skill, I could easily spot where is my opponent is located. As I aimed at the goblin that failed to hide its head from my sight, I fire a shot, and instantly, it falls dead as I could see three item is transformed from the corpse. The other goblin noticed that they had already been spotted, so a loud howl immediate made, as the other goblins from behind the bushes and trees quickly ran out and begin their attack.

The guards are shocked, but quickly gain their concentration back, when they heard a few gunfire sound from my side. I fired five more shots, as the remaining closest goblin is all drop dead. I had some urge to walk out from where I am standing on guard, but suddenly, a man from my side pulls me down in hurry. "What are you doing?" I asked because he just forcefully pulled me from standing on the spot. The next moment, "Poof! Poof!" two striking sound could be heard, as I seen an arrow is attached at the haystack behind me. Another one strikes the plank, and an arrowhead could be seen from the inside, as it already pierces through a little past the plank.
"Thank you," I tell the man, as I slowly stand up and fire another few more shots. But the moment I stand up, I begin to felt a slight fear, because the number of goblins that was charging towards my side, is around two hundred. With only a single gun in hand, I got no choice but to quickly fire another few more shots, before I retreated from the battle.
"Damn, this is not that convenient either! With the number of Goblin is so much, how am I going back to the initial location just to collect a few Goblin Compartments? I am slightly regretful as I quickly retreated from the initial place I stand and attack because at least twenty of goblins is coming over towards my location. I pulled the previous guy that just move me away from the line of an arrow and had him followed me as we retreated.
With the advantageous of my Scan Skill along our retreating path, I managed to escape from being caught in between of the smaller groups of goblins, and only take the risk to fight if the group of goblins does not reach more than five to six. Just like this, the two of us managed to kill three groups of five goblins. We stopped at last when the two of us are already exhausted from escaping. He then quickly introduces himself to me. "Brother, I am Yong Han, thank you to help me escape." I looked at him and simply introduce myself. "I'm Lu Bu, nice to meet you. Do not worry about what happened just now."
Since there is no more pursuer within my Scan Skill, I decided to take a rest without any worries, but for Yong Han, he was still very cautious because he is lack of the Scan Skill, so he would still be worried about any ambush from the goblins. I then calm him down and had him peacefully rest because there will be no attacker for now. I then take a look at the item I just picked. Not too bad, I said to myself before we went back to where we came from. The moment we reached the end of the woods, the sight before we are actually quite surprising.

The guards and the goblins are evenly matched! At least six hundred of the goblins is still around, while the guards are trying their hardest to defend against their attack. I looked at a spot with the fewer numbers of the goblins, and sneak over there to make a few attack. Meanwhile, Yong Han too, walked over to a different direction as he nocked his bow and prepare to shot. "BAM! BAM! BAM!" I fired three shots over to the group of goblins, and since none of them noticed my attack, I continued with another two shots. "Damn! The Sneaky type bullet actually won't create an awareness towards the other nearby goblins when they are killed."
I then walked over to collects the items that were dropped on the floor, before I aimed at another goblin and take a shot. At the same time, my shot instantly hurt the goblins, a hammer actually flew over to me and managed to hit my shoulder before I could react. "Dish!" the hammer knock me down on the ground, with my shoulder feeling like the bones had cracked. I struggle to wake up with another hand supporting my body, and I looked at the spot where the hammer flew from. The moment my eyes looked at that direction, I noticed a quite well-armoured Goblin is looking at me ferociously, with a guard's corpse at one of his hand.
He slowly walked over to where I am, and luckily, Yong Han saw my current condition and fired three arrows over to the Goblin as he comes and supports me. "Brother Lu Bu, do you have Blood Crystals? Quickly put it on your head, it will ease your pain and recover your health so you could continue to fight!" he quickly tells me what to do, as he supported me to escape. I hesitate a little, but to preserve my life, I have no choice but to let go the remaining item on the ground as the two of us escape once again. The Armoured Goblin howls for a while, and from my Scan Skill, I noticed that a bigger dot with around fifteen smaller dots is rushing over to our location, as we are escaping from them.
"Brother Yong Han, do you know what is that Armoured Goblin?" I asked Yong Han because, in my heart, I am quite angry because I got into a sneak attack in return because of my lack of caution. "Brother Lu Bu, you are pretty lucky to not dead under that hammer strike. Do not even think about fighting those Goblin Warrior. Those are the goblins that managed to survive over a half year in their lives. They are very difficult to fight against, and they possess a very dangerous ability that could strengthen themselves the more they could bleed their opponents." Yong Han explained. But the moment I heard his words, I couldn't believe what I just heard.
"Did you say, the Goblin Commander could increase their strength as long they could bleed their enemies?" I asked and upon hearing my words, Yong Han immediately answered me with a "Yes". "All goblin is born with an inner ability that will allow them to evolve as long they could survive. So the longer the goblin managed to survive, the stronger they are. An evolved Goblin Warrior possess the ability Blood Ritual, and a Goblin Marauder possess the ability Bloodbath Ritual."
"If this is how thing will go, then we are in deep shit," I warned Yong Han as we escaped. "Why?" he asked. Looking at his face, I pointed at two o'clock direction in front of us, and says, "There are another Goblin Warrior and twenty goblins at that side." the moment Yong Han heard what I've said, he immediately trembles in fear and our movement stopped. Same like him, I am a little regret to being too reckless, because if no miracles happened at me, I am sure dead this time, being forced to face two Goblin Warrior at the same time, from front and back.

8 169Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead. It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them. The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
