In Which I Doomed the World
I was a delver on the day I found the copper egg.
One thousand yards beneath the ground, that was where we found the cavern.
No, not cavern.
Throne room.
My business partner, Elora, and I descended into the ruins from above, riding upon floating platforms of the Ancients’ own design. The only light was that which we brought with us: glowing stones in our headbands. Inky darkness crept about, looking for a chance to catch us unawares. Being the rational man I was, I feared darklings, the beasts that lurked in the black outside the warmth of any Everburn. So, I kept in my hand a silver-edge, a weapon the Ancients had developed to fight the lurking terrors. I ignited the blade, causing white light to fill the fuller.
In the shadows around us, cast by broken pillars and crumbled walls, I was sure I saw faces watching me. The cruel and hungry grins of creatures more horrible than I could imagine. Some, I’m sure, were mere tricks of the light. Projections from my fear-oppressed brain. Others were surely even more fearsome than they appeared.
The ceiling from which we’d lowered arched like a distant sky, and the floor beneath our boots was steel. Something glimmered in the darkness, and I turned my face so that the stone in my headband would reveal it.
Upon a throne of bones it rested, as big as a drunkard’s belly, an egg made of copper. From the tip of the top to the base of the bottom, the copper egg held the runes of the Ancients, a language I knew, but had not yet mastered.
The moment Elora and I laid eyes on it we were sure we’d just made our fortune. A relic that size was sure to fetch a pretty penny with the masters at the Great Library. But only now do I know for sure that, like me, my business partner felt something other than mere greed upon beholding that egg. We both felt that humming in our chests, the ancient treasure’s call to embrace all it wanted to give us.

Elora and I approached the throne made of bones, some animal and some human. It was surprising that the darklings had not yet consumed these bones for the marrow.
Reading the inscription from the egg’s small side, I recognized but one word:
Zahac.
The Ancients’ name for the Dark Lord.

World Servers - Dawn
The year is 2143, and much of the world’s population has been digitized for decades. Different servers are configured for different purposes. Some servers are pure gaming worlds. Others are offshoots of fringe political experimentation or regimes. Still others are based around ethnic or nationalist sentiment. Some replicate past times or past eras. And still others have been designed as totally imaginary locations created out of the dreams of programmers and the Artificial Intelligences that have been used to build and drive them. The gaming guild I Like Big Booty is a loosely affiliated group of friends and avid players. Theirs is an international guild which spans multiple servers, mostly running raids, ganking other players in PVP, and generally trying to build up the funds to purchase their own home world server. On one of the most populous servers – designed to resemble 20th century earth – a small raid team running a boring and routine run in Washington DC, comes across something that might change the fate of Virtual Reality across the solar system. Note: Per request, the title has been changed, though I might change it again when if I come up with something a little better.

the hero, the villain, and the profiteer
...*ahem*.... I have been on the site for a while and I have wanted to make my own piece of literature for this site so I'm going to do it here is what I will be making as my first one. Honestly the thought just popped into my head yesterday I rather enjoy several different kinds of stories on the site, so I found a way to do a little bit of each. I myself am a high-functioning autistic but that's only shows in my writing for the most part they look will be the occasional grammar mistake and missing apostrophes and periods I'm also using a speech to text feature on my computer that will occasionally slip up. Now for the synopsis of the story: your standard reincarnation seventh hero type deal but there is a little..... Slip up: parts of the person fractals creating several people;; A great-hearted hero, a savvy traveling merchant, and a sadist curious dungeon Lord. Critiques and people reading this is appreciated, I mostly just doing this for fun. And because this is somewhat important for some reason the cover art is not made by me I just got it from search engine. It also may change over time. im mostly following the dl becouse...i don't know.

Parallels
Parallels are a constant in life. Our friends' lives often run parallel to ours; we share similar experiences or tastes- perhaps even both. Sometimes, however, opposites attract- and our lives run perpendicular. In that case, we are not attracted by similarities; rather, we are attracted to the differences in others. So, what happens when two parallels are broken apart? What might happen to them? Are they forever doomed to run alongside each other, never seeing one another, never meeting? Or, perhaps, might they be spun about? Could these lines that formerly ran alongside one another meet? Could they possibly be set perpendicular? Any feedback is welcome, so long as it is constructive. Also, you may not use any characters, ideas, places, or what have you that I present here without my explicit permission. A note: This is a story which I began over a year ago, but never got around to finishing- it feels about time to really get it going. Now, there are a couple of things about the story, and myself, that need to be said. First and foremost, there's a slow start, but by the third-fourth chapter things should be speeding up a bit. Secondly, in regards to release speed and/or word count per chapter, I make no promises- my schedule is fairly random, and in regards to word count, I will cut off any chapter at any point that feels appropriate to me- that may include cliffhangers, if necessary. I'm not trying to reach a specific word count, I am trying to create a cohesive story, with pseudo-appropriate chapter breaks. This means I will also not rush a half-baked release for the sake of getting a release out. Thirdly, I will make any edits, anywhere in the story and at any time, that strike me as necessary- typically being wording and/or formatting changes, but I may also decide to change major plot points- in that case I would put a notification in the next chapter released. Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian; this story is intended to at least moderately reflect those values. So, if you particularly dislike any of these things, feel free to look elsewhere, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. God bless, friends.
