《Unraveling Secrets》Chapter 43: A Gift

Kan arrived at the clinic after 15 minutes. This time on his way back when people tried to start a conversation with him, he had to tell them that he was busy. He was in a rush to go back and get more details about Nicole from Jane.
As he reached the clinic, Kan reached for the doorknob and without even realizing it, he was able to reach it. Kan realized that he had grown taller and was now able to reach the unusually high doorknob but it was locked.
“Is anyone home!”
Kan called out to see if anyone was home to open the door for him and a few seconds passed before the door opened. The one who opened the door was Doctor Frank.
“Excuse me, Doctor Frank, is Aunty Jane still home.”
“Yeah, she’s in your parents room checking up on their conditions.”
“Thank you Doctor Frank.”
Kan walked towards his room in the clinic since he shared one with his parents. The closer he got to the room, he could hear the voices of his parents and Jane talking. From the way they were talking Kan realized that they were talking about something important. So instead of walking in right away, he stood by the door and eavesdropped on their conversation.
“So do you think we can meet with the mayor later. I have something I have to tell him and I think you guys should be there too.”
“Sure Jane, we’ll go and ask the mayor if we can meet later.”
“Thank you Claire and can you keep this conversation just between us.”
“Yeah no problem.”
‘What are they talking about?’ Kan heard there conversation and it seemed that Jane had an important secret to tell his parents and the mayor. He didn’t know what it was but it intrigued him. He didn’t know if this secret had to deal with the upcoming disaster but he wanted to know. Every clue he figures out will help him prevent the disaster.
He needed to find an excuse to go to that meeting. This was his only chance to be included so Kan decided to walk in on the conversation.

“Mommy, Daddy, what are you guys talking about. Can I hear about it too?”
“Oh, it’s nothing Kan we were just having some grown up talk. You wouldn't be interested in it.”
“Ok, Jane, that wraps up our conversation. Clive and I are going to go talk to the mayor right now. Kan why don’t you stay and spend some time with Aunty Jane. She was talking about how much she missed you while you were asleep.”
Both Clive and Claire brushed off Kan’s intent on joining in on the conversation. Kan was stumped but he had another plan to enact later. As both Clive and Claire walked out of the room, Kan sat down on the bed across from Jane who was sitting on the chair.
“Aunty Jane, I went out early to go find Nicole but I couldn’t find her.”
Jane smiled at what Kan had said. She didn’t expect that the first thing that Kan would do when he was fully healed up was to go and look for Nicole. She didn’t really expect Kan to find Nicole but Kan still tried for her. This made Jane happy.
“Thank you, Kan, but you don’t have to try and find Nicole for me. Since you have healed up, you should go and play with your friends. You don’t have to do this for me.”
“I’m sorry Aunty Jane but I won’t stop searching for Nicole. My friends are important to me but Aunty Jane is also important to me. I don’t want to have fun by myself while Aunty Jane is sad. I want you and Nicole to be together so you can be happy. So I will do both. I will find Nicole for you and go play with my friends.”
Kan smiled brightly at Jane as he declared that he wouldn’t compromise. He was determined to find Nicole while also having time for his friends.
Jane smiled and chuckled at how stubborn Kan was in making everyone happy. She came closer towards him and rubbed his head.
“Ok, then. I will allow you to look for Nicole but promise me this. You must put your happiness first before others, Ok. If you keep on trying to make everyone else happy, when will you ever have the time to achieve your own happiness.”

“Ok, Aunty Jane.”
“Good, is there anything else you wanted to talk about.”
“Yeah, I have a question Aunty Jane. What does NIcole look like? Earlier I went to search for her but I didn’t know what she looked like.”
“That would be a problem in finding someone wouldn’t it. Hmm, let me think for a second.”
Jane thought back to the memories she had of Nicole. A few minutes passed and Jane began describing how Nicole looked.
“Nicole had black hair, pretty blue eyes, she was also slender, she had sharp eyes, and she had a mole on the left side of her chin. These are some things I remember of Nicole but this was all 20 years ago. She could look entirely different from what I know.”
Jane’s description of Nicole shocked him. This wasn’t like the Nicole he remembered at all. During the eighth set of memory he had seen Nicole. She had silver hair and red eyes. Now that Kan thought about it, when he first met Nicole she had blue eyes but in the memories, she had red eyes but Jane also described her with blue eyes.
‘Are they the same person?’
Kan was confused. He didn’t know if there were two different Nicole’s or the same Nicole. The room was now silent as Kan thought to himself. Jane looked at Kan as he was in deep thought.
“Is there something wrong Kan?”
“Um, Aunty Jane, have you ever seen Nicole with silver hair or red eyes?”
Being asked this question, Jane began to think about what Nicole looked like again. She thought back to all the events that they had been through even the times when Nicole had killed people.
“Wait, I think there has been a time when Nicole had reddish eyes. It was when she had saved me from the bad men who tried to kidnap us. It wasn’t completely red, it was more of a bluish red color.”
Everything clicked into place as Kan thought about the description of Nicole. It was the same Nicole but it was some sort of ability that made her hair silver and her eyes red. From what he remember from the eighth set of memories, Nicole still had the mole on the left side of her chin.
“Thank you Aunty Jane, i’ll go out again and ask around if anyone has seen Nicole.”
Kan walked towards the door and as he was about to exit, Jane stopped him. Jane had just remembered something important that she had to give to Kane.
“Kan come here. I have something to give to you.”
Kan walked back to Jane and stood in front of her. Jane reached for his hand and put something in it.
“This is kind of late but happy birthday Kan.”
What was in Kan’s hand was a small necklace. The chain was made out of silver while the gem hanging at the end was a green gemstone. It wasn’t big, but it was a very nice and calm color. Just by holding it, Kan felt calm and peaceful, and it was like his body was being healed.
“This necklace will keep you save Kan. It took me a while to make but this necklace will heal you as long as it is in contact with your body. The gem is made out of condensed mana and it is imbued with my healing attribute.”
“Thank you Aunty Jane.”
Kan left the room and Jane smiled as she watched him go. Jane had underplayed how hard it was for her to make the necklace to Kan. If he knew how she made it, Kan would be worried for her and she didn’t want that. Jane had use her lifeforce to create the gem and the gem would always heal the user as long as she was alive.

Children of Danu, People of Skill Book 1. (LitRPG/Gamelit)
Hi all, this is my first attempt at fiction ever. I'm sure it's awful, first attempts at new things usually are. Hopefully you can find something you like in it. I had a great deal of fun writing it. It's a basic Litrpg/Game, God sends you to a new world to do their bidding plot. I Know I did too much telling and not enough showing. I'm working on that. The underlying system is one haven't seen or done much. a full Point Buy system, like Gurps, Champions or the Hero system. After writing it a while, I see why folks don't do it. The record keeping is tedious. And once you start doing math in subsequent chapters, you can't go back and add more action, just because you dread redoing all the math. I've got about 80k words written in two "books" on the novel so far. I'm going to edit chapters and try to drop a couple a week till it's finished. Hopefully that will work for folks. I need to punch up the amount of action. I'll be working on that as well. Thanks, Cal-P.S> The cover art is one of the two CIrce Paintings By Waterhouse.
