《The Human Soul》Chapter 1: ONE HELL OF A NIGHT
Advertisement
The city of Johannesburg is one of the largest cities in Africa with an equally large economy. It’s mostly known for the Soweto Township, where Nelson Mandela originates from. The city is home to millions of inhabitants reaching anywhere between 4-5 million.
It is now nighttime in the city, from a distance tall buildings light up the night sky and as you approach the center of the city a light uncomfortable smell accompanied by excited music would be your first indication that many people are still active at this time of night. In one of those buildings there is a specific party going on. The venue is filled with university students celebrating the end of their schooling year (whether they have successfully passed or not).
“Let’s get wasted niggers!!!!”
“Relax dog we haven’t gotten in yet”
“Who the f_ck cares, we can drink in this F_CKEN slow ass line”
“That’s right hurry up people we wanna party!!!”
From the font a man in a black blazer, skin-tight grey shirt and jeans approaches the four boys. One look at his sharp ridged face, thick neck, large lips and an overly muscular body paired with dark skin and one could immediately assume his deep African roots. But to these boys he was a ‘bouncer’ a security guard hired by the venue they were headed to.
Bouncer-“Hey guys keep it down”
“Oh sorry we’ll…” another boy holding a bottle interrupts before he could continue.
“Relaaaaax chill, chill we’re just tryna have fun”
Bouncer-“Well save it till you’re actually inside.”
The Bouncer then walks away after giving a threatening look over the whole group of four.
Bouncer-“And no dinks allowed, you’ll have to buy then once you’re inside” he adds.
After their sure the bouncer has left the conversation gets going again.
“Drink fast niggers no bottles inside”
“Don’t stress we’ll be done soon…” the then smirks and swallows his drink in one go.
“I AM NOT GOING HOME TILL I GET SOME ASS!!!!! YEAH!! LET’S GO”
The four boys finish their drinks and enter the club. From there the night goes as it usually does. Dancing, drinking, finding women to talk to, more drinking, until of course one member of the group ‘gets lucky’ and scores their first women of the night. This just opens the floodgates for these four, all of them love showing off and once someone’s started the ‘hunt’ nobody wants to go home empty-handed. But like all groups there’s always the odd-one-out type. That one guy that you just wonder how he even made friends with such a colorful group. But tonight would be different. Tonight that one guy would shock all his three friends.
From one corner of the club a young man could be seen walking with two women in his arms. What was most surprising was that he wasn’t much of a looker. A young black man, slightly chubby with average facial features. He wore blue jeans, a white shirt, grey jacket and red ‘ALLSTARS’. {A type a shoe popular in South Africa}. As he approached his three friends a clearly wide and proud smile was plastered on his face.
Girl on the right: “Come on babe, tell them so we can go…”
Guy in the middle: “Yeah, sure… ah sup guys I’ll be leaving with these girls so guess I’ll see you all tomorrow, maybe? Anyway they invited me to spend the night with them!!!”
“…” His three other friends didn’t respond they just silently stared in shock.
Girl on the left: “Sooo we told them now can we go baby, I’m getting cold…” the girl holding his arm wraps herself around him only a little push more and she’d be on top of him.

“wa, wait, so your leaving with them?’
Guy in the middle: “Yeah!” he says with a smile.
“Damn girl, for real? You leaving with him? Come on let’s all go back to my place then that’ll be way more fun”
Girl on the right: “No thanks”
“wow wow c’mon we were just having fun, sit down and have a drink you don’t need to leave yet”
“Yeah what’s the rush we didn’t even get your names yet, wasup I’m T-“
Girl on the right: “We said we’re leaving; babe your friends are messing with us we’re going without you”
Guy in the middle: “NO, it’s cool they just playing we can go now, yoh guys I’ll check you later”
The boy then leaves with the two women.
“Dog did we just get left behind by that nigger?? Nah Nah Nah somethings up those chicks were to fly for him”.
“Don’t be jealous just cause they rejected you ahahahah”
“Nah nigger that bitch just got a problem”
“Hahahahah they didn’t even let you say your name ahahahha”
“Yoh little-t just walked away with two bitches and you haven’t gotten shit tonight kakaakhahhaa yoh bra the way she was like ‘no thanks’ so fast yoh I’m sorry did that hurt hahahah do you need a doctor up in here hahahahahaha”
The group continued to agitate the situation and their friend purely for the sake of a few laughs. After a while they went back to enjoying the party, some thoughts still lingering about all the fun their friend could be having with those two girls.
Outside of the club three people were climbing into a car, two females and one male. One of the women was in the driver’s seat whilst the other was in the back next to the man they had just picked up. After a few minutes of driving the man finally started sobering up.
“These girls are pretty hot now that I look at them properly”-the man thought.
The two girls, who seemed to be just around his own age, had fairly light-brown skin, the girl sitting next to him, Karabo, as she introduced herself, was insanely attractive, she wore shorts that were only a few centimeters longer than regular underwear, dark black in colour, that showed of her thighs like they were some meal in an expensive restaurant. She wore a sleeveless top that exposed her stomach and belly button, along with a leather jacket the was left open. The women had curves that you would want to run your hands around all night, she was slightly short with a petite young looking face which only added to her charm. Her braided hair came down to around her breast area and was pushed to one side to hang over one shoulder. Her eyes were light brown and her lips were so appealing they got your imagination working over-time. But Thabo was now at least sober enough to remember his own name and thus began to question the situation.
Thabo: “Hey, guys where are we going?”
Karabo: “Back to our place babe we told you”
Thabo: “I’m know but where is that? I still need to… you know, go back home in the morning”
To this the driver, Tierra replied: “Don’t stress babe we’ll take good care of you tonight and drop you off where you need to be tomorrow.” She said in a seductive way.
Thabo: “Ok, cool”
He couldn’t really tell what Tierra looked like from where he was sitting but she had a petite build with just enough muscle without losing her female charm.

Two hours later and Thabo was getting really anxious. Something was off and he could tell. The girls chatted every once in a while but were mostly silent, and the cars windows were definitely tinted black but he couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t see out of them. Thabo had never been in a car with tinted windows but he was sure you should be able to see the outside even then. Because of this he had no idea where they were. To make matters worse for some strange reason his phones’ dead and he can’t switch it on again.
“That’s weird I’m sure my battery was on 63% before we left. Why is it off now?” he silently thought.
A sense of dread slowly crept in on him but he brushed off this feeling and tried to think of how enjoyable these ladies would be in bed. The problem was every time he looked at one of them he couldn’t help but cringe up a little, but he didn’t know why, it was the same dangerous feeling as seeing a dog come out of nowhere and chase you.
After another two hours Tierra announced that they had arrived. As Thabo got out the car he could see they were in some sort of garage, a massive one with at least a dozen cars. This only served to intimidate him further as he wondered who these girls were.
As the three walked through the house, it only confirmed his suspicions that they were crazy rich, Flat screens lined the walls like they were nothing but pictures with a single massive set in the lounge, modern furniture gave the house a creamy glass like look. Outside the windows were either large open fields, views of distant city lights or elaborately decorated gardens. As they took the stairs down Thabo finally spoke up.
Thabo: “Listen girls, let’s just stop here, I kinda got somewhere to be in the morning so just please point me to the bus stop or taxi and I’ll…”
Tierra: “Oh come on babe it’s waaay too late to bitch out now.”
Karabo: “Hehehe yeah, like your gonna just leave us alone like that?”
Thabo: “I just...”
“But you two aren’t alone are you, that’s enough, the field is up, we’ve got him” an unknown voice says out of nowhere.
Thabo turns to see another beautiful women wearing a business suite-type outfit but with a short tight skirt. Just as he was about to think about what’s happening a blinding light flashed in his eyes and he was knocked out.
“Good, he’s out cold, now take him downstairs and prepare for the ritual”
Sometime later Thabo wakes up in a dark room. He notices that he can’t move but doesn’t know why. The only thing he can make out in the room are dim red lights lining the floor and the ceiling and one ring around the floor with him in the center. After a few seconds he notices some figures moving around the room and starts calling out to them.
Thabo: “h…Hey help me I can’t move, w, what happened…hey!!”
“He’s awake now girls let’s begin”
Suddenly every figure in the room lights up as a pale red light covers them. Thabo can’t tell where the lights are coming from but even though all the figures are cloaked he can still make out Tierra and Karabo in the room. They are both in the back of an organized group of people, all of them kneeling and wearing white cloaks.
Thabo: “Karabo! Tierra! What’s happening!!! What did you do to me!!”
The one who answered was the cloak figure in front of the group. Her face was the only one the was exposed and her robes seemed to be decorated with gold strips.
“We brought you here because we need you, or at least someone like you, his highness has marked you as one of the ‘pure beings’ and therefore worthy to sacrificed to him, be thankful this is a great honor and opportunity to move on to the higher plain”.
Thabo was shocked to hear he had been kidnapped by some crazy religion, but didn’t know how to deal with the situation. He was out clubbing and left with some girls he had just met. Even if the cops started investigating his case right now they’d be lucky to even find his corpse anytime soon. In fact, even he did not know where he was right now. This made him even more nervous, he knew they got him good, no one would come looking for him for a while.
“What your doing is illegal!! YOU’LL GO TO JAIL! JUST LEG ME G…”
An injection to the neck ended his short outburst. As the green liquid slowly entered his body a massive pain spread. And though he could not see it a green glowing lines were spreading from the needle throughout his body. The ringleader of this cult then stepped back and moved towards a pedestal just behind her. On the pedestal was a screen displaying an increasing percentage.
’43…67…78… wow this is the fastest on I have ever seen, guess he’ll really make good material’- she thought.
Thabo wasn’t strapped down or restrained but he couldn’t move a finger. His eyes started getting blurry and all hear could feel was pain. In his ears was a vague but distinctly mechanical buzzing sound that he felt was trying to hack into his brain or something. And after a few seconds he heard the ringleader speak.
Ringleader: “Good 100%, everyone prepare your energy receptors and begin meditation procedures the portal will open soon”
All the people in the room took out some sort of device that looked like a tablet with a glowing core stuck in it. Their eyes began to glow different colors and they them to be praying. Then the Ringleader continued.
Ringleader: “Preparations complete, I’m opening the portal”
The ring of light around Thabo glowed in a bright crimson red that engulfed him entirely. The pain increased exponentially and eventual Thabo began losing all his sensation. He couldn’t see, hear, feel and eventually he felt he couldn’t even breath. He then lost consciousness but even then it wasn’t over. He saw the bright red light forcing its way into his mind and dragging him down somewhere. In a few more seconds of struggling he was dead and the ritual was complete. The women cleaned up the room and cremated his body. Hours later the sun would rise on a new day and the girls would prepare for school like nothing ever happened. If anything they probably felt refreshed and full of energy after their amazingly successful ritual last night.
[First person]
Ah fuck my head hurts. What happened, why am I lying on some cold hard floor? I need to get up.
Thabo: “damn last night was the worse night of my life, I thought I was going to die, shit, well at least I’m alive right?”
The room looks white everywhere walls, ceiling. Do these people have any style? Looks like there’s nothing in here but me… oh no there something on the wall in front of me.
Thabo got up and slowly started walking towards the wall.
Thabo: “Arg way is walking so hard, my body feels heavy, and this headache, damnit!! I didn’t even drink that much last night! I NEVER do! Shit those girls where nothing but trouble.”
Huh? What am I even wearing? These aren’t my clothes. Is this a jumpsuit?? Black ok, but why am I wearing a jumpsuit??? Oh there are words on the wall, looks like English at least.
“To whomever this may concern
WELLCOME TO HELL”
What??? Wellcome to hell??? When did this happen? What the fuck this isn’t even funny.

Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
