Once I saw her in the distance, a strong need to run to where she was grew in my chest.

But I didn’t do it. I have my duty.

So I watched as she approached with heavy steps. She must be tired from walking so much.

Still.

Under all of the road dirt. Under the messy hair and tired face.

I can still recognize my daughter.

She’s a beautiful woman now, but that’s not why I’m smiling.

I’m smiling for the same reason she’s smiling.

Every step she gets closer we smile more.

She’s in front of me.

“Hi dad.”

I finally hugged her.

“I’m home”

“Welcome back.”
