《Ode to Freud》Intermission: A Special Day in Winter
Advertisement
I finished the last of my swings for the day. I am a bit happy.
Because today is warm bath day!
Father and mother don’t care because they work less in the winter. But I stuck to my training every day, and I sweat a lot while doing it.
Of course, I can always take cold sponge baths like mother forces Jacen and Al to take when they are too dirty, but those are unpleasant.
I would rather have a hot bath every day.
But mother is always complaining on how much we need to work in order to have a single bath. It is true that the tub uses a lot of water and wood, but it isn’t her who have to work half a day to get those, so I don’t know why she complains so much.
It isn’t as if I am becoming soft either.
I will be a warrior in the future. I do not do ‘soft’.
But today is a good day.
I enter the house and see the family reunited at the table. It is dinner time already. I take my place.
“Ann, you smell”
Mother is being picky as always.
“You should take better care of yourself”
Even you father? What should I do if my cute brothers start picking on me as well because of how you are always doing it?
“That is right. Every day you are outside, sweating like a baker in the sun. Wouldn’t you go outside at least once a week? You don’t have any friends your age either.”
“I don’t need any friends. There is no one who likes the things I do anyways.”
Mother makes a sad face. We have had this discussion many times before.
“Ann, listen to your mother. She wants the best for you.”

I know where this leads to. The best for me isn’t what I want for me. Let me change the topic.
“Are we having a warm bath today?”
Jacen rises his head, and even the small Al seems interested.
“Warm Bath?”
Thank you Jacen. You asked just the right question at just the right time.
“That is right. It is a warm bath. You probably don’t remember it, but you had one last year as well you know?”
“Really? How is it? How is the warm bath?”
“Oh, it is wonderful. The water is hot, and it makes you go ‘phuaaaaa’.”
“phuaaa?”
“Hahah, that is right.”
“Ann”
Father isn’t letting this go, is he…
“Yes father?”
“… forget it.”
He is back eating his fish and veggies.
Yes. It is my success after all!
“Ah, by the way, since I have to wash Al, why don’t you and your brother take the bath first? It will be the two of you, then I will wash him and lastly me and your father will wash each other’s backs”.
“Okay.”
I will be the first in the bath!
Today is a good day!

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.

Sorcerer, level 1
Alcar's life sucks. His days in the poor quarter of the city of Katresburg are long and tough, his parents treat him like garbage, and he doesn’t have a silver moon to his name. But Alcar knows that there is an exciting world of adventure out there. And when he sees a half-orc master sorcerer walking through his neighborhood, he decides to grab his chance. He approaches Master Maluhk to offer his services as an apprentice. And to his shock, the sorcerer agrees to let him come and try his luck along with several other applicants. Soon though, it is all too clear that Alcar, clumsy and lazy as he is, lacks any natural magical talent. It also becomes apparent that Master Maluhk is only interested in ’apprentices’ in order to get someone to do his laundry and tidy up his books. At best, Alcar and the others have signed up to do unpaid labor. Things go from bad to worse when his fellow applicants for the role of apprentice prove to be reckless in the extreme, and as Master Maluhk’s tower catches fire, Alcar soon finds himself being blamed for their misdemeanors. Can Alcar clear his name, gain another chance, and learn enough to show that he has the potential to be a proper sorcerer’s apprentice? [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

I hope you enjoy the story! :) My characters include Maya (the narrator and a bit of a rogue-like character), Vera (our healer/mage), Felicia (resident navigator and lover of gadgets), and Rach (a fighter/brawler).
