《Hero for hire》Chapter 0-4

The figure was alone, carrying a bag made out of black and purple material on it's left hip with some big cylindrical object sticking out of it, and an enormous sword-like instrument in it's arms.
“Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God was dead for a while.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And star gems drop from the the sky,
Bathing earth in gleaming light
Similar to dreaded blight
Thank and praise the fallen sun,
For the day is gone
Darkness dwells inside our hearts
As we all devour the light
Gone is sun, stars are done, fire spreads through land
As we know the gods are dead
In this blight infested land
Life is gone, now shadows creep
Your time has fled, and assassin came
Always true to the pact they made.
Now the light fades from eyes
And the blight claims you
Remember the one who brought you delight
Of embracing the Death.
Aaand here we go again.
Day is done-” The figure didn't even bother to be a better singer, nor sing something that might be considered a song. “Hey! I'm totally OK at singing!”
The lone figure was traveling in search of more demons, as they were the only source of income and he needed food and water, as he was a living being. While he was walking the flare came off in the distance, so he hurried towards it, eager to find out who else stranded on this plane besides him. After 20 minutes of constant running he heard the sounds of battle. To his surprise there were a few demons similar to those he encountered in the Utopia, as well as one teleporter demon. Those demons fought another group of similar demons
“Enemy of my enemy is likely to be my enemy, unless they are not my enemies, in which case they might be neutrals. Let's try it then?” Reaper stored the hammer he held and grabbed the cylindrical object from the bag, with some sort of black thick belt connecting the weapon in his hands and bag. “Well, let's see how good are those freaks against AP rounds!” Reaper smiled under his helmets.
He checked the minigun produced from the pouch, and started creeping towards the ongoing battle. It took him a while to actually come close enough without arising suspicion from the two groups. He wasn't at all surprised to see that the head-mouthed demons were fighting some other demons that had rows of teeth in the middle of their bodies. “Alright, I guess there are worse demons than those I encountered before.” He looked at the way the belly-mouths fought horn-mouth demons, and found it “Kinda gross. They basically engage in a cannibalism, not that I find that bad or something, I took a bit out of a long-pork before, but I don't find the taste satisfactory. Pork in general isn't that good, aside from bacon. Hm... bacon...” Reaper Drooled a bit before starting spinning barrel of a minigun. “Better kill them, I need experience.” He aimed and started shooting. With a firing rate of 1.5 thousands of rounds per minute, the demons didn't stand a chance. At least that's what he thought. Instead, the belly-mouth demons didn't suffer much injury, only two were weak enough to succumb to the bullets, and only because they were hit in their weakspots. “Weakspots? Where?” Reaper asked, no one in particular. “No seriously, where are their weakspots? I mean, I killed two of them, I think, and lightly injured ten other, but... wait, it's their mouths, right?” he wondered. “Then, I just need them to smile wide.” with a smile, Reaper cooked up a grenade, and threw it right in one of the demon's mouths. It didn't show any effect for a while, until the demon breathed out a smoke and fell limp. “So their innards aren't as tough as their flesh.” With the roar, the nine demons that left, charged at our hero. “Mercenary.” Despite their breaknecking speeds, the distance was almost five hundred meters, and it was enough to kill the rushing demons in the twenty seconds of constant fire.

As the last demon dropped on the ground, Reaper started moving through the corpses of the fallen enemies, and found the reason behind their battle. “No, I did not. They're probably just racists, and hate eachother.” as he said that, he placed his foot in a red mushy substance that covered the ground. “Yeah, great, don't tell me I just stepped into... feeding area.” he looked at the tiny badge amongst the red substance. “Not a badge, it's an id card. No wonder there weren't much of the personnel on base.” he placed his hand on the mush, and soon after, the whole area started glowing and dissipating, right before his eyes. “One thousand, six hundred credits. Nice, I guess? Demons Give about two hundred per body, without crystal. I wonder if they are useful. I can always exchange them to credits.”
After some time of extracting crystals from demons, Jack looked at his handiwork, before starting converting the demons to credits. “Wait a second...” he looked through his log. “Belly-mouth is worth about three times of the regular demon, and the teleporter is worth almost five times of the belly-mouth? Well, I did get quite a bit of the UP for this fight, not enough to level up my attributes... well, parameters. Honestly, what's the difference anyway?” With a sigh, he put the crystals in the bag and noticed that it couldn't hold out for much longer.
Eventually the corpses were exchanged for the credits, and after a short meal, which considered of a protein shake and vitamins, Jack continued on his journey, in the unknown direction, as well as browsing the information about System.
“No shit I am browsing. Voices in my head is a norm, but blue screens? Well, that isn't something you should get outside of a game, or a simulation. Just look at it. I got skills that I never knew I had, I have abilities I never knew I had, and I have traits, which are more or less normal, and I have really lame stats. They're not at a hundred, so I take it I am quite lame character, well, I am weaker than most of the enhanced soldiers, but I am not putting so many metal inside me only to find that we finally got nanomachines that can be injected in bloodstream. Still, I like magic, the idea of it at least. How do you even cast anything? I can't seem to...” Jack looked at the fire appearing at the top of his armor suit and notice how fast the mana is drained. “... so... I am really the weakest of the weak. Shit. All mana wasted on a tiny flame.”
He walked through the hell for a long time, hours, days, even weeks, with occasional demon crossing his path, which was promptly dispatched by a shot to the head, or in some cases, a hammer to the face, or the demon equivalent. At some point, Jack got tired of carrying items on him, so he decided to buy the inventory ability, as well as some other minor utility traits.

“Inventory is self explanatory, I am tired of carrying stuff around, even if it did require me to sell all of my gathered crystals. They aren't good for anything, but converting to credits anyway. Toughness is a welcome addition, and regeneration is vital if I were to lose a limb. I'd personally like to get another one, but it'll take a few more encounters, price is rising fast for that trait.” Jack stopped at the hill, overlooking the vast area of the badlands. “Holy mother of shit...” the view before him wasn't that pleasant.
A few kilometers away from the hill, there was an army of demons, fighting another army of demons, but that wasn't what surprised Jack, instead the surprise was about the new type of creature, or creatures to be exact, which were looking like giant worms, loose amalgamation of different bodyparts, and insect-shaped demons.
“I... think I have a mininuke or two, but they won't be enough to kill them. Hm... and they cost a lot.” Jack was contemplating on whether to use one or not, before he took a bone of a demon, strapped the mininuke to it, and then after getting to about 500 meters from the demonic skirmish, armed it. “Here it goes!” with a powerful throw, the makeshift projectile was thrown a bit over 400 meters, much to the annoyance of a certain mercenary, which had to duck as the explosion rang in the vicinity. Explosion was powerful enough to actually throw most of the demons in a disarray, and provide quite a lot of points through the siphoning ability of his. At the same time, he wasn't feeling lucky, as while the demons noticed the devastation caused by the nuclear device, were still too busy fighting amongst themselves. Of course Jack used this to launch another mininuke in the midst of the enemies, now much closer to them than he would want to.
This time however, the demons decided to attack the intruder, even going so far as to attack him simultaneously, but as the demons were closing in, another explosion decimated their numbers, while Jack was busy arming himself with the minigun.
Fortunately for him, most of the demons died relatively quickly, and he had some ammo to spare, however one worm was still standing, if it could be called that, and shrugged off the bullets without any damage being sustained. Therefore Jack decided that it could then be killed by shooting from energy weapon, unfortunately, he didn't take into account that the worm was much larger, and uncharacteristically fast and agile for it's size. Therefore the moment Jack took his rifle in the arms, the worm managed to lunge at him. With a quick sidestep Jack managed to avoid most of the attack, however his left arm and a rifle were consumed by the worm's mouth.
“You piece of SHIT!!!” Jack howled, as the blood gushed out of the open wound. “I'll fucking-” he couldn't finish his threats, as the explosion rang from the worm, and it's mouth exploded in a shower of purple gore. “... You know, I should have waited a bit before engaging.” Jack looked at his stump, that was slowly covered in a layer of pink flesh. “Good thing I got regeneration, I doubt I could've found my arm there.”

One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
