《Journey into My New Life》Chapter 10: Thief!! No, that's your relative.

Elena and I return after merrymaking all around the village. Elena has gotten quite intoxicated and I had to pull her away from the innkeeper before he got eaten by Elena’s lust. Upon our return I see a few horses tied up outside our home. I set Elena down outside and leaned her against the wall.
I drop into a combat crouch and hid my presence. I pull the out the knife I always carry from my boot and slowly make my way to the house. I don’t recognize the horses but I can smell blood on the saddles and see an empty scabbard so I assume someone is armed. I peer through a window I see a man laid out on the table with a large wound on his chest and another man using healing magic but to no effect. I see Tom is the corner but he is talking to a man and Kaya is boiling water over the stove. I sheath my knife back in my boot so I don’t embarrass myself and go back and carry Elena inside.
“…Kaya, how are those bandages coming! Hurry up!” A man shouted
“Almost done…” Kaya responded while putting a piece of torn cloth in the water
“Hey, what’s going on in here?” I asked
“Oh, Aero, perfect timing heal the guy on the table please.” Tom said
“Okay… Now who are these people?” I said after I healed the guy laying on the table. I watched as his skin knit back together. It was actually pretty gross but the man stopped moaning as the new skin formed not even leaving a scar.
“See, I told you my son is amazing.” Tom stated proudly while patting my head
“Thank you Father, but who are these men?” I looked around and didn’t recognize any of them. They weren’t from the village and they all had a smell of blood wafting from them.
“Well, first off I am John Night-stalker and I’m your uncle. Nice to finally meet you nephew!” John said rather happily for a man that had come in with an injured man.
John stands over in the corner next to Tom. He is a tall man with long brown hair. You can really tell that he has elf blood flowing through his vein because his ears almost taper to a point and he is built rather wiry. He is dressed in traveling clothes but with a green cloak with a small crest on his chest. The other men are dressed in identical clothing so it must be a uniform of some kind.

I walked past them and take Elena to her room and return to the kitchen. In my time of absence everyone had sat down at the table and were in discussion.
“Sis, I know it’s a lot to ask but everyday I’m losing more men to these nobleman ambushes. I would of lost George if Aero hadn’t been here.” John pleaded
“John, even if you say that I don’t know if that long trip would be the best thing. Kaya and I have a responsibility to this village.” Tom said
“What trip? What’s going on?” I asked while sitting next to the man I healed.
“Oh, Aero, perfect timing. Thanks for taking care of my man. George would say it himself but he is of the beast race and cannot speak Basic very well.”
I had noticed a tail wagging and hitting my arm. I looked over at George and notice that he has a tail that’s wagging like a golden retriever’s. It’s actually quite endearing and I have to resist the urge to pet it. The urge is too much for me to contain as I fight my hand until it’s too late and I pet his tail. It feels amazing, like my hand is being tickled by golden wheat fields as the wind blows through them.
I check to see if I was discovered and when I look up at the owner of the tail I notice that he also has rather peculiar ears. They seem to protrude not from the side of his head but rather like a dog he has ears on top of his head. My hand quickly vanishing, leaving an after image as it heads towards those ears. Once again I am unable to stop it as my hand gentle pets in between his ears. Although it seems as if George rather enjoys being petted especially due to my magnificent petting technique. Everyone in the room stares at me dumbfounded as I continue to pet this man who is twice the size of me.
“Does that feel good?” I asked George
“Yes, it would feel better a little to the right though.” George answered
I rapidly obliged him moving my hand slightly to the right and his tail speeds up until I can feel a breeze flowing from it. John and Tom are still looking at us with a dumb look plastered on their face’s. Kaya and the other man in john’s party laugh as I continue to pet George. I suddenly return to my senses and realize what I’m doing to someone I just met. I remove my hand and stop petting George, who looks rather sad that I stopped.

“Sorry, I did it without thinking…” I apologized
“No, It was quite enjoyable and plus you saved my life so there is no problem… If you want you can continue…” He said slightly hopefully
“I would like that but I’ll refrain for now.” I said a little put out.
“Wait… Aero since when could you speak Beast Language?” Tom asked bewildered
“Beast language?” I asked
“Yes, I only speak Beast language and you’re conversing in it quite well for one so young.” George replied still slightly downtrodden from not being petted anymore.
I had totally forgotten about my gift of language but I couldn’t very well say an Angel named Ella gave me three gifts to help me on my journey of this world. I decide on a lie and prepare to act upon it.
“Oh… well Fi taught me…” I answered
“Well, she was a good teacher but that’s amazing.” Tom said
“Darling, we should have paid her more and kept her for the next child.” Kaya said proudly
Yes! They bought it!!
“Oh, I’m sure we will meet her again. We’ll ask her then but still wait an amazing child we have in Aero. You haven’t laid
with some wandering god while I was out guarding the village have you?” Tom flirted
“Hmm, I remember some man that my brother brought home who swept me off my feet and carried me away with sweet words.” Kaya flirted right back at Tom
“Okay, you two lovebirds, can we get back to the discussion and since you're involved Aero you might as we chime in.” John said in an attempt to regain control of the conversation
Tom kisses Kaya and they fall into a chair towards the end of the table. John sighs and sits down across from me and his other party member sits next to him.
“Ignoring the stupid couple to my left in all seriousness we are all that remains of a six man party that set out from Celu. I am the captain of the royal guard and these are George and Halt, we can to recruit in a few towns but a few weeks into our journey we were set upon by what appeared to be bandits. Three of my best men fell to their swords by the time we had finished the last of them. On their corpses we found letters from several noble houses with orders for our deaths or at least to stop recruitment of more royal guards.”
“Why would the nobles want the royal guard dead?” I asked
“The king’s brother, George lost his succession right even though he was older due to war crimes and he resent the king because of it. He has been trying to usurp the throne since the king married the queen. The queen used to be an adventurer and the nobles were slammed because the king chose her over their daughters. The king has recently been ill and George has taken advantage of that to bring most of the noble houses over to his side. The people and the royal guard members are still loyal but more and more nobles move over every day.” John explained
“George you really want the throne that bad?” I said jokingly
“No, I am not that man.” George replied seriously obviously misunderstanding my joking manner.
“Ha-ha no, the King’s brother is a cruel and heavy man. He is not a good man and you would do well to remember that, Aero.” Tom said with a serious look
“So you’re here to recruit some people right?” I asked John
“Hmm, the answer to that is complicated… I am here to ask for your help as well as the rest of our family.” John said looking at me
“My help? What could I do?” I asked curiously
“Well, my wife is the royal tutor to the princess and the princess is a very willful girl. She gets it from her mother but she can be a handful so she doesn’t have any friends. I would like it if you could not only be her friend but also help her learn things. I heard that you’re very smart and you’re already able to use at master ranked magic. You can even speak Beast language so I feel that the princess would have a lot to learn from you.” John pleaded
A friend of the princess sounds great but at the same time it sounds like it might end up being a pain. I have always disliked politics and if I befriend the princess I’ll probably have to defend her from all sorts of attacks. In short I’m being asked, a mere 7 year old, to guard a princess. Sounds great….
“Absolutely… I refuse.” I said proudly

Nora and the Search for Friendship
Ellie is excited to go to university and finally make friends after a difficult time at high school. However, she’s a little worried when the book club has her read a really awful historical-fantasy story about what sixteen-year-old Eleanor gets up to at a “prep school” for the children of nobility. Still, she’s hopeful since the other girls seem nice, and they surely want to make fun of the story, so she’s in high spirits on her way to the meeting. Then she dies. Eleanor de Kent, beloved second daughter of a duke, slowly comes to terms with her memories of her past life as Ellie—including that she’s apparently the lead character from that book. Her childhood has its ups and downs, and loneliness seems to be inescapable. Now sixteen years old and attending the very school from the book Ellie had read, can she finally escape her fate and make friends?

The Solipsist
Every novel needs a main character, and in this case, it's a young man named Jacob Bates. Jacob is your average guy who likes books, television, and long walks on the beach. One day, Jacob was diagnosed with a condition that made his body frail and weak. This drove Jacob to focus solely on his studies, ending up becoming a fairly capable guy, despite his condition. The road ahead was looking great! That's when a little scene occurred between Jacob's girlfriend and one of his male classmates. Jacob's mood was a little lower than dirt from thereon. His motivation to pursue his studies, gone. This event caused Jacob to fall into the death grip that is a job in retail. One day, while Jacob was mopping the cold floors of the grocery store he worked in, a strange blue screen appeared in front of him, notifying him that the world was going through a change. Now if this change was a good or bad thing, he didn't know. But there was one thing Jacob knew for certain. He didn't have to mop the floors anymore. Author's Note: (This is my first story, and I would be very thankful if grammatical errors were pointed out. I could also take a few suggestions in the comments if you would. This is less a planned production, and more a little project that I'm winging as it goes. I will try and be consistent with at least 2 chapters a week. Also, as I am a completely new author, the number of words per chapter may fluctuate. The minimum will be around 1000 words, while other chapters may be 2000-3000. It will hopefully only get better with time.)

The Fundamentals
You hear of many tales out there. Some depict worthy heroes wielding tremendous power, noble personas that fight to save the lives of their close friends, family, and all the rest. Good triumphs over evil, that is simply the way the world works, no? While this premise is something inherent to nearly all stories, what exactly the heroes used to attain success can differ greatly. Perhaps they've trained themselves to the limit, pushing past boundaries nobody else could hope to achieve. Others still, have merely inherited the grand legacy of another legendary being, but what they have done with such a legacy would cause their names to be passed on for generations. Rowan is one of the heroes who have ventured beyond the horizon, tempering themselves on a perilous journey all the while and succeeding in attaining strength beyond measure. However, in an unexpected turn of events, this strength caused him to tear open and fall through a hole in the realm he resided in. Now he has ended up in a completely foreign realm, whose inhabitants utilized strange powers that eclipsed his own. Fortune would smile upon him this day, however, as he discovered that they were not hostile, and even offered to teach him their ways. Rowan could see that this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and eagerly accepted their invitation to learn what would come to be known as: The Fundamentals.

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
