《SC to MC》Vol 2: Chap 9: Leveling Up
Advertisement
I found a rabbit easily but the next part was gonna be hard. I needed to get hit, ALOT! And with precision. Also the bars in my view don't tell me exact numerical values. They're just bars. To know how much HP is remaining I'll have to open my status in the middle of the fight. But well, all things considered, this was the precisely the reason for choosing a rabbit for the opponent. It was the easiest monster in this forest.
I got ready for battle.
(More like, get ready to hit, huh?)
I couldn't even throw a stone as I had to keep it's HP at max throughout the battle. I went close to it and stomped on the ground. But it just ignored me.
(Wha!?)
How do I aggro this guy? In all my fights I used to hit them with my dagger, so they registered me as an enemy. But if I don't attack, it wont attack either? What's with this humble creature!?
I bent down close to it and observed it. It looked at me with its red monstery eyes, but it was strangely cute, enough for a girl to go 'kyyaaaaa~' over it. I tried poking it in the side and it showed me a glared.
(Oh this might work!)
I started poking it again and again to annoy it. After about 10 pokes, it stood up and attacked.
(Ah finally!)
But I instinctively dodged.
(Whoops. Need to get hit.)
Then I purposely took a couple of attacks.
(So boring. So weak.)
I had to get hit more than 20 times to get my HP down to 100. I took 2 more hits and got to 63.
(Another?)
The next one, I let it graze me and got to 54.
I decided to make the rest of the attacks as grazes.
After 3 more, I was down to 27. Then 19, then 12 and finally 6.
(Seriously!? 6 HP!? WHAT THE HELL!?)
With 6 HP, even a graze could kill me. I needed atmost 5!
(So annoying!)
It was time to decide my next step. Do I continue, or kill it. The least damage I'd ever got was 5. I could try for it again, but it was too much of a gamble. It was better to kill it now and try again later.
(Maybe?)
I had a sudden epiphany.
(No harm in trying, is there?)
I took a distance from the rabbit, opened my status and increased strength by 1. Now I had 16 HP. I don't know if it contradicts with the requirements of the skill, but I was soon gonna find out.
I took another graze and had 11 HP left.
(Yeah. NOW IT DECIDES TO DO 5 DAMAGE!)
I took another light hit and my HP was down to 3.
(Finally.)
I easily dodged its next attack and cut it in half with my sword.
And nothing........
Looks like I didn't get the skill.
I didn't sulk on it and added some points to strength. This way I wouldn't die if I were to have an unexpected fight.
"Congratulations on your first skill!"
Trichia came out of nowhere and hugged me.
"What are you talking about? I didn't get the skill." I said to her. There would be some indication if I got one right?
"Really? I was sure you would have with that fight. Did you check your skill list?"
"Skills." I opened the skill list without a moment's delay and there it was.
Insta-kill MP: 100
Instantly kill an enemy with current HP lower than 1% of your total HP.
Oh!!!!! My first skill and I got it on my first day!
"Shouldn't there be pop-up or something notifying you if you gain a skill?" I asked her.
"Oh that. You can enable it in the settings."
I threw her way an accusing glare but she cocked her head to one side, stuck her tongue out and just went "Tehe~".
I was about to retort but..
RRROOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The earth shook at the sound of that deafening roar. My hair stood at its end and I faced what could only be called a living embodiment of a natural disaster.

Dragon Emperor: The Destroyer of Worlds LVL 1000
*gulp*
I don't know whether the reason that I didn't piss myself was due to being brave, or because I couldn't, in the game. It was still a distance away, flying in the sky but gaining fast and straight in my direction.
It was HUGE! Taller than any building and wider than any stadium. It was so huge that it could probably make love with a mountain. Its body was completely dark with thick golden lines making patterns all over its body. The contrast was so surreal. On one hand, the sunlight seemed to want to avoid it as even its immediate surroundings were dark while on the other, its golden lines themselves seemed to emit some sort of fluorescence. I could only make out its body due to the background being bright. I could only imagine what it must look like in the dark, with only those huge red pupils to look at while they gaze back at you.
Then I noticed something else.
It had more than 10 HP bars!!! How much health did this monster have!?
But there was something else that was bothering me. It's HP bars were coloured differently than any other monster I had faced as of yet. The normal monster's HP bar was red and turned grey over the area where it indicated loss of HP, but all The Monster's HP bars were grey.
I came back to my senses and realised the situation as I heard a voice. Everything started to soon make sense. Why such a Godly Monster was here and why its HP bars were different colored. All of it became clear when I heard Trichia speak.
"That is the last boss of the game. It currently has 1 HP remaining. Best of luck~" Trichia told me and disappeared.
....
....
I took me only a moment to realize what it all meant.
(I can Insta-kill it!)
"INSTA-KILL!!!!!!" without any time to waste, I aimed my palms towards the monstrosity and shouted at the top of my lungs.
I didn't know how to use a skill or what to expect out of it, but what happened next was pretty anticlimactic. The dragon just disappeared and the peace and quite returned once again. Well, the peace and quite apart from the constant dings in my head.

(HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, I AM LEVEL 327!!!! AND IT'S STILL MY FIRST DAY OF PLAYING!)
Trichia was in front of me, waiting for me to sort everything out. I was too tired to deal with this shit. Don't get me wrong, I was happy and all from levelling up so much but there was another headache coming like the constant dinging.
"I think that's it for today Trichia, I'm pretty tired. I'll go and rest. Though, I'll probably be back early in the morning since tomorrow's a Saturday."
"Umm. Okay. Bye bye." Trichia could probably tell that I was a bit upset.
"Bye." I said and forced a smile.
Again, don't get me wrong. I'm not mad at her or anything. On the contrary, I feel grateful that she's helping me so much. But when I think about what's waiting for me, I get seriously depressed. The system doesn't have a way of adding points in bulk. So tomorrow morning, I'LL HAVE TO CLICK ON MY STATUS SCREEN 5540 TIMES! Just thinking about how long it'll take is giving me an headache.
(Whatever. I'll just go and rest for now.)

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

A Nerd's Wet Dream Come True (Tossing an OC into Marvel) V2.
Andrew William. A perfectly average boring name for a perfectly average and boring boy. He wasn't particularly smart nor gifted. Not in academics nor in sports. He wasn't even as good as the other losers and "nerds" in his school. He could not remember the expansive lore of Star Wars, he could not recite the dialogue of Startek nor pull off any cool one-liners and quotes, and he couldn't beat the final level in most games without resorting to cheating or mods. All he had was half-assed knowledge of pop culture and comics, but the one thing he was good at, his one and only pride and calling in life? Making Youtube videos. No, it wasn't sad! He was actually quite popular, honest! He made videos of adventure and nature, although it was mostly of the creepy variety. Abandoned hospitals, old mines, long tunnels, and undiscovered caverns. And as ironic as it was predictable, it would, of course, turn out to be the reason that he died. Well, at least he could take comfort in dying doing what he loved, not many people these days could say the same, you know? The concept comforted him at least, but it turns out death is not always as permanent as people liked to think, because Andrew somehow found himself in New York City of all places after falling to his certain death in the Devil's hole, Death Valley Nevada., only thing was it certainly wasn't the New York that he knew of. The Fantastic Four? Stark Industry? Captain America's biography? Oh boy, and did he mention he's no longer human? His Asian friends had introduced him to the wonders of Isekai novels and mangas, but isn't the order a little messed up? Where's his meeting with the sexy and nice Goddess? Where was his intro or tutorial?? Explanation plz I'm a noob at cross-dimensional travel! Help? Setting? Menu? Status? May I please get to pick my own cheat power? No? I'm stuck as a virus? Well, At least the Prototype Virus was pretty darn cool and OP. Just not as op as being able to casually break the sound barrier in my sneakers or bench pressing the earth, but I'll just have to make do. Please don't be some fucked up Marvel continuity where Nazis and Hydra won or some shit. Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore
