《SC to MC》Vol 2: Chap 3: The Genius Returns

Two weeks have passed and today is finally the BIG day! Are you curious? You are, aren't ya? Well, Yuko and Trichia are finally coming back!!
I recieved a text from Yuko yesteday night that they'd be boarding the flight soon and that they'd reach here by 10 am of the next day, which is today!
I'm already on my way to the airport. Thankfully, its Sunday so I don't have school. Mom also wanted to come at first, but then said something about it being too painful and decided against it.
And now, here I am! On the airport! Waiting for them! Their flight has already landed! They gonn' be out any minute!
Quite a few people are coming out, so its hard to spot them. Oh oh oh! I see them! I see them!
They're at the end of the crowd. I still didnt see Trichia. She was hidden from my view due to her being smaller than most people. I see Yuko and 3 of his escorts. Didn't he leave with five? Oh, there they are. They were hidden behind the first 3 escorts and their gigantic backpacks.
(They left with with 5 medium sized backpacks and are returning with 5 extra large ones. How much did those guys shop!?)
They were finally close enough for me to see Trichia. Yuko had already noticed me. I waited for them to come closer till there wasn't anyone between us. When they came in full view, Trichia saw me. I smiled and waved at her. She widened her eyes.
(Umm.. Guessing from her expression, Yuko probably 'forgot' to mention that I'd be here.)
She halted in her steps for a second then ran towards me. Thankfully she wasn't too fast, since the impact of her jumping onto me made me fall and groan from pain. If she'd been coming at full speed I'd probably be waking up in the hospital.

"Rota. I missed you!" She hugged me tight around my neck.
"Yeah. I missed you too Trichia." I said while gently caressing her hair.
"Hihihihihi." She laughed a girly laugh.
"Get a room, you two." Yuko came over and said with a grin.
Trichia got off of me while pouting and Yuko extended his hand to me who was still lying on the ground. We shared a look and I took his hand to get up. Without dusting my clothes, I gave him a manly hug.
"I missed you too, bud." I said.
"Yeah yeah. I'm touched."
After our reunion was over, Yuko's expression turned grim.
"I need to talk to you." He told me.
I could feel the seriousness emitting from him but it was hard to tell whether he really had something important to talk about or was just pulling my leg.
"Uhm. Ok?" I decided to play along.
He looked back to his escorts and said "Go ahead and deliver the luggage." With that, the 5 escorts left. Trichia was still here though and without me realizing, had come over to me side and was holding my hand. It was just like the first time we met, just this time she was wearing a cute white one piece and a pink hat, instead of the maid costume. Without minding her, Yuko started.
"My experiment to create an artificial intelligence was a success."
I knew what he was talking about. It was about Trichia. Since the day he made her, he left her out in the real world to see her progress. There were regular checkups, sometimes he asked for my feedback and finally his world trip. It was all to see if Trichia was capable or not.
I looked at Trichia through the corner of my eyes to see her expression. It was again like the first time we met. She had no expression. But the feeling this time was different. To see a person who 'doesn't know' how to make an expression compared to a person who 'chooses' not to make one. There's a different kind of sadness in each. And this one caused an unpleasant feeling.

(She knows, huh?)
Even I wasn't so stupid as to not notice. Yuko must have already told her the reality of the situation.
"But my mission is not yet over. There is still the last stage to go over. I don't know how long it will take, but when I'm done, believe me when I say this, the world as you know it, will change."
That was certainly dramatical. I was wondering whether he practised it on his way here before he said his final words.
"Goodbye, my friend."
With that, he turned around and left with Trichia. I just stood there. Trichia waved at me. I kept waving back till she was out of sight. But in my mind, was a single thought.
(Did he just go Hollywood on me!?)
But was he said wasn't a lie. After exactly 250 days, the world was in an uproar. It was the birth of the first virtual reality game.

There's a dead body hanging from a tree and cadaverous giants watch you sleep at night. The end is already here, you just don't know it yet. Now rated in the top 3% of all novels on Royal Road! Palus Somni (‘Marsh of Sleep’) is a worldbuilding webnovel about what happens when your God forsakes you. Inspired by gothic horror and mingled with British myth and folklore, join the Alucinari nuns as they struggle with day-to-day life after the world has ended. Every night when the sun sets the monstrous Gol, colossal beings with too many teeth, awaken and roam the marshlands. Only those with a faithful heart will be spared. Young acolyte Wille has never seen the walls fail, but when a fellow nun is murdered within their sanctum the very safety of the monastery is thrown into question. Did the Gol find a way to breach their defences, or is there a human traitor amongst them? The answer lies both far in the past and deep beneath the earth, through the maze of ancient catacombs. With a cast of over thirty different characters, watch as your friends and enemies spiral into inevitable madness at the hands of a callous and unforgiving world. Discover the secrets of Palus Somni through letters, diary entries and notes found scattered across the monastery. Uncover the mystery of the grotesque giants that stalk the night and bring your challenge to the Gods themselves. Each character has their own handmade pixel art, and every update includes a music recommendation for a dark atmospheric dungeon synth album that you can listen to while you read. Slice of life meets cosmic abomination: Palus Somni is a collection of intertwining stories, some chapters are stand-alone tales while others feed into the overarching narrative. It is an exploration into a community, and rather than focusing on any one character the story meanders through the convent, exposing the hopes and fears of its inhabitants. Story updates every full moon.

Keys of the Endpoint
Keys of the Endpoint is an illustrated web serial about the re-birth of civilization in a fantastical world suffering from a recent apocalyptic event. Every day, people appear from the storms that ravage the Endpoint. Whisked away from their own time and place by storms in their homelands, these newcomers find themselves in a hostile place made up of ruins and people from every timeline imaginable. Stranger still, they all soon discover they're carrying silver keys that grant each holder incredible powers. On Earth, most people have mundane excuses for the disappearances, but not Isaac. Having lost his brother Finn to one of these storms, Isaac becomes obsessed with finding a pattern. Not to prevent more people disappearing, but rather to get taken by the storms himself in order to find his brother. While chasing Finn’s faint trail, Isaac soon discovers how little he really knew about himself, his brother and how much loss one person can take. In Keys of the Endpoint there's portal fantasy, personal drama, magic (useable by everyone), plenty of combat, power progression, mysteries, factions, feuds and eventually war (in that order). The magic system is well defined and modular with nigh infinite combinations. The story starts out with one of the two main characters looking for his lost brother but quickly expands in scope from that point on.
