The next morning some disturbing sounds woke me up. I changed my clothes and I went to the kitchen to ask Ellen what is the source of these sounds.

“What’s that noise?”

“Good morning to you too by the way. What you hear is your father getting used to his new greatsword. Apparently that helps. It’s OK if you confuse those sounds to those of a demon, the first time I heard him training I was still half asleep and I almost hit him with a fire barrage.”

“Why didn’t you hit him, did he dodge?”

“You think too highly of your father, he can’t dodge magic, you need body enchantment for that you know.”

“No I don’t. You said you were going to teach me magic techniques after me buy a crystal.”

“Anyway, I stopped casting the spell before it fired all the shots. In case you wondered the fire barrage is a spell that keeps shooting fire balls for as long as you can keep it active.”

“Why not shoot a fireball instead?”

“I was half asleep, I didn’t know what I was doing.”

“I am going to call your father, it’s about time had breakfast.”

Ellen called Kraft and we ate some soup with boiled eggs.

After breakfast I went outside with Kraft to train. Today’s training was weightlifting and so Kraft gave me one of his older swords, a steel greatsword which was almost as big as me. Make no mistake, Ellen said I was about 1.30 meters tall. I looked like a girl while Kraft looked like Hulk with normal skin colour, even the way he was dressed matched. I don’t know why he called swinging a sword weightlifting. After a few swings I noticed that my arms are getting tired, which shouldn’t happen since I am used to lifting heavier stuff.

“Feeling tired yet?”

“As a matter of fact I do.”

“You are swinging it wrong.”

“So show me how to swing a sword.”

“If I teach you know I think you will probably fail to keep up since your body is not developed enough yet. Next year I am going to teach you how to fight with swords and your mother will teach you how to fight with concealable weapons like knives. “

“So, when am I going to play?”

“Did you see any kids yesterday?”

“Now that you mention it I haven’t seen any kids in the village.”

“Most kids your age to schools in other towns or cities to learn how to speak, read and write. Smart kids can stay in school until they are fifteen years old, then they can study further in the imperial capital to become scholars. They say that there is a new scholar every three years or so.”

“So most kids are stupid?”

“Most kids dream of becoming adventurers or magicians. While magic is taught in school, not many kids have a vast amount of magic power and even less can achieve control over magic.”

“So smart kids become magicians?”

“Some of them, the rest become teaches.”

“How smart is Ellen, she is a sage right?”

“She is a wizard who holds great knowledge about the world. You have to finish a special school to be a sage and you must be over 50 years old to become one.”

“How old are you and Ellen?”

“I’m 35 years old and she is 30.”

“OK, thanks for telling me.”

“It’s about time you go back inside.”

So it was time to see if the God lied or not.

I went inside and Ellen was waiting for me in the bedroom. She passed me the crystal she was holding in her hand. When I touched the crystal its colour changed from transparent to black. It formed a black aura around it and then it shattered.

“The actual fuck?”

“Well you are a rare one. You can only use Dark magic.”

“So what does it do?”

“Mind control, shadow manipulation and sneaking around at night.”

“So I can be invisible at night.”

“Magic can be used internally and externally. As a matter of fact most dark magic users can’t use their magic internally. Dark magic’s body and enchantment is the strongest and it’s the hardest to control. Now let’s go outside so I can teach you about body enchantment.”

“So I’m finally going to practice magic.”

“Just hurry up. I can only show you what I can do but I don’t have the element of dark magic so you are on your own.”

“What elements do you have?”

“Fire, light and wind. I have little control over them but the fact that I can use all of them is what counts.”

I went to the garden where Kraft was training. Ellen who was standing in front of me used body enchantment magic and a red aura covered her body and clothes.

“Body enchantment is done by controlling the flow of magic by using the heart and the brain as a conduit. You must feel the flow of magic and direct it to your heart and brain.”

I tried sitting straight and then closing my eyes. Ellen said that magic is concentrated in the brain and heart but I don’t understand why I can’t feel my magic concentrated there. It was like my magic was flowing like blood inside my body. I tried concentrating my magic on my heart and brain. I felt a dark presence around me, I felt a chocking sensation and I lost my conscious.

“What in the name of Sonne is that?”

“It’s a demon aura!”

“Can’t you stop him?”

“I’m sorry Kraft, I can’t do anything.”

“So now we just wait for him to die?”

“He stopped, he must have consumed all his magic. Kraft take him upstairs.”

 “What are you going to do now?”

“Try to teach him to control his magic. I already confirmed that his body hosts magic just like a demon’s but he didn’t go berserk, he lost conscious when he ran out of energy and his body suffered no transformations. I believe he can control his magic despite what happened.”

“But you saw that black aura.”

“The magic crystal shattered, his only element is darkness that’s why his aura was black. Healing magic doesn’t work on him but he is a fast healer and we both already knew that his body and mind were abnormal. He is going to be fine.”

“That’s what you say but I can see the blood coming from your arm and some stains on your nails.”

“Just get him upstairs!”
