《The Best Way To Use A Clone》I'm not lucky
Advertisement
In front of me is the entirety of Caleb Dunham's little friend group, including the man himself. It is Wednesday, the final exam is here, and the final beatdown is about to happen as well, apparently.
"I heard you got yourself a power, f**got."
"What? I'm not gay, why did you call me that? Also, who told you that?"
"My handler told me that. Also, yes, yes you are. Look at you, you fucking twink. I can almost hear you begging for my genetically superior spunk all over your puny little f*g face."
"Dude, stop projecting."
That was not the right thing to say. He swings at the locker next to me, crumpling the door like a piece of paper. Oh God please no.
"Good joke, buddy. I like that. Mind telling me another? Or maybe, you could stop quaking and tell me what you can do. Yeah?"
"Why do you even want to know that? You thinking of recruiting me or something? If you're a superhero, then I'd rather be a supervillain than pretend to be on your side even for just an instant."
"Your call."
Then he decked me. Except no, he didn't, because for some reason I found the courage to do something other than cower, which gave me time to duck and get out of his little friend circle. I run as fast as possible away from him and towards the only open space possible-- the cafeteria. Big, open, full of tables (and students), ideal for running from the biggest douche in Ontario.
There's a door on the left and one straight ahead. Going straight would lead to him outpacing me and catching me, so the only real option is to go left. I cut across between the tables, take a glance behind me and see that his hulking frame is slowing him down. Good, I'll need space for this.
The hallways to the right of this door are tight and winding. Once I get in there, I separate a clone and send him sprinting down the narrow corridor while I turn left. I did some experimentation during the last three days. I found out quite a few things, but here's the big points:
1. The clones are identical to me physically.
2. They really can't take much in the way of damage.
3. I can recall them from anywhere, but can only deploy them from my body.
With this information secure in my mind and unknown to his, I make my daring escape by looping around and entering the classroom where I'm meant to be taking my last test for this school year. The best part is he doesn't know where I went and he's in his last year here, so I won't have to deal with him next year.
The clone, after separating, took off in a long straight path, then turned right into the men's bathrooms and got in a stall. Not long after, Caleb came in and pounded on the door, telling it to come out and calling it slurs. The clone crouched on the toilet so he wouldn't be seen from under the door, then disappeared as I recalled it. I can only imagine the look on his face when he finally kicks in the door and sees an empty stall... Oh, yeah!
The test went really well, all things considered. After triple-checking my answers, I left the classroom with plenty of time left to spare. Today, I'm bringing the last of my stuff home then I won't have to think about this damn place for a whole two months. All I need to do is make sure Caleb isn't around, then I can go. Creeping up to the corner leading to the hallway where my locker is, I see him leaning against it all nonchalant-like, with his three closest friends (also Powered) around him.
One of them sees me.
"Hey, he's there!"
You snitch!
"You can't hide from me, f*ckface! I'll grind you to a pulp!"
I turn around and run back where I came from, and also create a clone that runs past the hallway.
He and two of his friends chase after it, but the other turns right for a bit and sees the real me.

"Hey, there's two of him!"
"Mike, go help Kyle!"
They've even got established tactics and everything! I don't know what the other three can do, so I have to make sure they don't get close. This could be a predicament.
"You can't get away! I have super-endurance! I can go on for, like, a whole day!"
You're slow, though. Small, too. Honestly, this guy is fairy-level short, is he a girl? Doesn't matter. The other one's pulling something from his pocket. I don't wanna find out what it is.
The clone's gonna get caught. This is bad.
As I take a turn, I hear a pop and a fizzy noise. A compact net gun. These guys are for real, now. I don't think I can get away with all of my teeth. The big guy's not--
Loud noises resound through the hallways. The clone's a lot closer. Is there work being done? A school shooter in here, maybe? The hell was that even. It's still going, though, so I'll take a big risk and send my clone towards the source.
Behind it, I can hear surprise.
"The hell is that?"
"Gunshots. There's a whole-ass gunfight. Let's go. You're safe for now, f*g!"
"I'll call the others."
They're running away? I mean, it's not like they're armed, so it's fair to run. My real body's still being chased, though. Now that they're out of sight, I'll recall my clone. Focus, there's not long to go now.
A ringtone sounds behind me. There it is.
"You got 'em?.. A shootout? We're bailing, then. Kyle, let's get outta here!"
And just like that, they left. I'm out too, though I'll take my stuff first. There's a gunfight, what are the odds? Apparently, 100%!
After grabbing what little is left of my property, I scurry on out in the opposite direction of the bullet storm. It's been quiet for a little bit now, but it might not be over so I'm leaving through the side door and taking a detour.
There's no one in the halls, they're all either hiding or they've already left. Either way I'll follow their lead.
The side door I'm referring to is at the end of a long corridor connected to the main hall. The big one that's got most of the lockers in rows along it, just one big room full of stuff. The corridor has two doors in it, one leading to the gymnasium and one leading outside.
As I leave through there, I see police cars and two superheroes in costumes. Can't quite tell who they are, but they seem to be handling the situation quite well. They're mostly centered around the front of the school, so the problem's over there, but this is stressing me out.
If it's enough of a problem for at least two to show up, that means there's a supervillain. Supervillains are nasty and they kill people for fun, or at least in these parts they do.
I manage to put some distance between myself and the school, but this is ridiculous. Why a school? Were they picking up their kid and got found out or something?
Honestly, I just don't understand these people. I'm out of breath now, I've gone as far as possible fast, now I gotta take it slow. Just a little further and I'll be home.
"Hey there, boy. Looks like you're in the wrong place at the right time."
A man is standing there, in front of me. When did he get there? He's holding a gun, though. Oh no, oh no. He's in full costume and everything, too. My first real encounter with supervillains is here and now, exhausted and scared.
Wonderful.
