《Kismet Online: Root Alpha》Chapter 6: Rare monster and Treasures

***Hayato***
Hayato opened his eyes. He felt a little bit more sluggish than usual even though his mind was refreshed. He stayed on his back and looked up at the white ceiling that was not his. He lay there for half a minute before getting up and entering the small bathroom installed in the room.
Even though the aesthetics of the world was quite old and more medieval, there were plumbing and because of the crystals: it wasn’t dark and was quite bright even during the night so most of the nocturnal monsters stay away from towns and cities but most villages were still fair game due to the fact that not all of them are ‘modernized’.
Hayato recalled the ‘fight he had went through last night. It was a disgrace. An assassin should never panic no matter what situation they were in, he admonished himself. ‘Panicking just a little could have caused my death and even if I were to be revived, there could have been a price I needed to pay…’ Hayato took a deep breath and looked up at the mirror installed in the small bathroom.
Looking straight at him were heterochromatic orbs of teal and gold. His face still had its normal characteristics of a mixture between his father and mother and only had the addition of a single small crescent moon under his left eye.
“…!”
Hayato brought his finger to the barely-half-a-centimeter mark. He remembered just yesterday that there was nothing like this under his eye, why was it there now? More importantly: does it have a great significance?
A small knock and a feminine voice brought him out of his trance.
“Hayato-san, are you awake?”
Hayato turned towards the door of his room through the open door of the bathroom. The voice belonged to Yuka but he still wondered what she wanted. Wiping away the water droplets from his face with a towel, Hayato exited the bathroom and answered the door.
Standing in front of him was Yuka in her leather armor; though he could see that she might’ve just woken up from her slightly disheveled hair and slightly droopy eyes, he did not comment and simply greeted her.
“Morning Yuka, what’s the matter?”
The girl stayed silent at his nonchalant question. Though he knew not why she was suddenly quiet, Hayato still waited for the answer. The two stayed silent for a whole three seconds before the girl spoke up.
“Nothing… just curious to see if you were still here”
Hayato could have sworn that she sounded somewhat dejected. Does she hate him?
“If you’re done, breakfast is ready downstairs…”
With that last sentence, Yuka turned towards the stairs located at the end of the corridor and walked away seemingly lost in thought.
Hayato just stared at the girl as she walked away. She seemed odd, or not. He hadn’t talked with her other than to give tips on the Ichiharu style so he has no idea if that attitude was normal or not.
Shrugging, Hayato got out of his room. He was already wearing his clothing and somehow he didn’t smell sweaty at all so he just forego his morning routine and went straight to breakfast which was too quiet.
======================
***Yuka***
It was already 12 o’clock and because they wanted to make sure Ame was safe: Yuka and Hayato waited with Ame at the northern gate for her brother.
Yuka herself could not understand why Hayato can’t come with them to the capital. They were going to be accompanied by a high-leveled player who has experience fighting both monsters and humans. Was he the lone wolf type?
Advertisement
Yuka glanced at from the corner of her eyes towards the white haired male.
He was still wearing his usual smiling face and had his tails swaying from side to side. He was still wearing his [Novice armor] which resembled a Yukata, that looked oddly made for fighting, and on his waist was a normal looking iron katana. ‘He must have got them last night…’ She thought as she inspected the sword. It looked really plain compared to the other katana blades she could see on some of the other players… no adventurers… had equipped.
She sighed inwardly. She wouldn’t be able to get any information about him this way and she knew it but the thought of speaking to her instructor nonchalantly like a friend was too odd for her, even though he was only one year older than she was.
Probably noticing her stare, Hayato turned and looked at her with a questioning stare to which she just turns her head away from. She, of course, was just trying to hide her embarrassment from being found out staring.
She tried to turn her attention somewhere else and her eyes fell on Ame who was anxiously waiting for her brother to appear. Again the question arose in her head: why couldn’t Hayato just join them?
She looked up at the sky where the sun was almost reaching its zenith. The capital was quite a ways away so they would probably be waiting for another hour before they rest for lunch. She felt uncomfortable standing out in the open what with all the stares the group was garnering.
She wondered what her family was doing back in their world as she randomly recalls her last talk with her parents.
==================
***Ame***
“Where is he…?” Ame was anxious. Last night was her brother, right? The one who called her, right? Ame played with the hem of her shirt, her sleeves and even with the novice dagger she had on her. She couldn’t contain her anxiousness.
She then felt a hand on her shoulder and looked at the appendage’s owner smiling at her from over her shoulder.
“Don’t worry… I know your brother; he’ll be here. You just need to be patient…” Hayato reassured her with a smile. Was she really showing that much anxiousness?
Ame nodded. She knew he was right that her brother will arrive. He might just be taking a rest somewhere near the town and was having his lunch but still she couldn’t relax herself. She looked towards the gate in order to find her older brother among the merchants, adventurers and other people going in and out of the gates.
Like that, the group of three waited for an hour before finally: the person they were waiting for arrived. If Ame had not seen her brother’s avatar before, she might have missed him since he blended in so well with the other people.
Wearing light armor with a slightly lustrous sheen, a male with shaggy dark brown hair was walking through the crowd. He wore a blue shoulder cape kept in place by a badge with a symbol of an eagle swooping down
“An-chan~” She called out and ran up to the male and hugged him.
At first the male was surprised and almost lost his footing, and then he smiled and returned the little girl’s hug with his own hug. On his face was plastered a wide smile but it disappeared as soon as he saw the white haired [Foxling].
======================
***Hayato***
Hayato watched Ame run up to her brother. He smiled when he saw the sibling hug then his eyes locked with the brown haired male’s eyes. He was amused that the male did not hide his hostility towards him, which was good since it meant that the male would always be cautious around him.

Feeling that he has finished what he needed to do, Hayato was about to walk away when he heard his name being called out by the red head beside him. Turning his head towards the girl, he gave a questioning stare at the girl. “Yes?”
“Aren’t you going to say something to Ame?” She had her hands crossed across her chest with a disappointed look.
“Not really, no. I will be meeting you all after this again anyways.” Hayato answered nonchalantly. “And besides…” Hayato looked at the pair of siblings, Ame who was crying her eyes out and the male apologizing to her. “I don’t think it is a wise idea for me, who he has a grudge against, to be in the same group…” Hayato smiled as he said this.
Noticing that he had piqued her interest, Hayato purposely left it at that and resumed his walking; leaving behind a curious red head and a pair of siblings. He has things to do and he preferred it if did all of it by the end of the day.
====================
Naturally, he first went towards the market district where most of the trades were going on. He wanted to stock up on some [Small HP potions] and [Small MP potions] after almost losing his life against the wolves. Who knows if he were to suddenly fall from a high place and needed a quick patch to his health.
Walking by a few merchant stalls that sold some overpriced goods, Hayato was reminded of his tail slots. ‘I need to get some shields and another sword or two…’ He brought up his character status window and noticed that his money had risen by quite a large margin.
“When did I get [32gold]?” Hayato could not help but ask loudly but then shook his head and shrugged it off. It wasn’t bad at all, just good enough for him to get some decent equipment. “Portable smithy should be [12gold] and [30silver]…” Hayato began to shudder. ‘Just buying some potions already costs a fortune…’
Hayato did not like spending a lot of money for unknown reasons. If he bought something, it would be cheap but with good quality but since this world was fundamentally different than his, then what is good quality and what is not good quality?
Even though he was deep in thought, Hayato skillfully bobbed and weaved through the crowds in the market with simple sidesteps and turns. All the while, a pair of savage looking golden eyes followed his movements; clearly taking an interest in the white fox’s movements.
Hayato felt those pair of eyes on him. Thinking that it might prove to be useful to him, he acted oblivious and continued his way down the street in his usual pace while returning greetings and expertly dodging other people.
Hayato stopped in front of a shop that clearly showed its affiliation with weapons if the giant sword and hammer for a sign was not a dead giveaway. He looked at the swords on display with his [advanced appraisal]. Though they looked to be of high quality and were priced at least at [1gold], they were pretty much useless.
“What’s with this low durability?” Hayato shook his head and headed off towards another shop that sold armor and weapons only to find that merchandise to be equally useless as the first shop. Wandering from shop to shop, Hayato shook his head at the quality of the equipment. Who wouldn’t when swords gleaming silver with a durability of 5 was priced at [1gold]?
Hayato took a rest at the plaza where he could see the other adventurers walking about. From what he could see, they looked less hopeless and had more life in them than last night. Some were laughing and hanging out with their comrades while others simply went back to trading their goods by the side of the streets.
“My pursuer seems to be quite determined to follow me…” Hayato sighed under his breath. At first: he simply ignored the stare seeing as it was probably someone bored with nothing to do and found someone that took their interest but now…
“At least hide yourself better…” He sighed again.
In the corner of his vision, on a reflection of a well-polished display window that had an assortment of flashy clothing was a person hiding behind one of the four trees surrounding the fountain Hayato was using as a bench. From the angle the reflection was showing him, he could only make out the female to have black hair and wearing a leather armor set that was probably custom made. On top of her head was a pair of animal ears and just below her spine right above the waist was a tail that reminded him of a dog’s wagging tail.
“I wonder…” Hayato used his [advanced appraisal] but was rewarded only with the information of the material used on the glass and the information of the clothing on display but not of the person stalking him causing him to shake his head. “I guess you cant really appraise a reflection of something…” Hayato laughed weakly. He took a deep breath and stood up. “I guess it is about time I buy that [Portable smithy]…” taking off to a seemingly random direction, Hayato headed towards his destination with a canine race shadowing him at a respectable distance.
==================
“Oh, you can only buy those things at the capital. They don’t make those here in this town.”
Hayato dejectedly left the smithy. He was sure that at least that was being sold here. Now that he knew it was only being sold at the capital, it was sure to be more expensive than what he was told. With his tails and ears drooping, Hayato walked back towards the center of [Shinzan town] and stood in front of the fountain.
Sighing deeply then stared at the rippling water. He hadn’t accomplished anything on his list today. Not only that, if he didn’t upgrade his armor; he won’t be able to go anywhere far without sustaining heavy injuries or depleting his [Potions]. He shook his head. ‘I am an assassin; I should be able to get things done even with minimal provisions and equipment’ Cheering himself up, he brought up his character status window

Closing it after inspecting his status, Hayato decided that he should at least get a job before attempting to go to a [boundless dungeon] or finishing his [Monster extermination] quest. Besides, he needed some more offensive skills other than [Wind walk] which increased his movement and attack speed.
“What job should I take? That’s the real question here…” Hayato sat down on the edge of the fountain and entered his thinking mode and ignoring the bustling of the plaza. “A typical route I can take would be going for the generic [swordsman] or [warrior] professions or maybe he should try going for magic type professions to better understand magic and its concept. Or he could just pick a different type of profession not meant for direct fighting or at least something that benefitted his fights.
“Maybe by some chance I would get a rare profession… Nah~” Hayato doubted that he would be able to get a rare profession or probable a secret profession but seeing as he was not having any trouble in his fights. “Maybe I should just finish my quest before finding a profession. Who knows if I might get some kind of weapon or armor from this quest?” Resolving himself to finish the [Monster extermination] quest, Hayato stood up from his sitting spot and began to walk towards the western gate. By now, he had totally ignored the stalker hiding tailing him after labeling the person as ‘Unimportant for now’.
===================
Arriving outside the western gate where he accompanied Yuka and Ame not long ago, Hayato stretched his body. After reading what he needed to exterminate next, Hayato opened his map that had several blank spots since he had not explored much yet. Due to his inability to ignore empty maps: Hayato almost went the wrong way just to fill his map when an odd looking creature appeared in his vision.
It looked to be a ball of fluff with a cute expression on its face. To tell the truth, Hayato thought that it looked like it would be a good thing to use as a pillow. It’s fur was a slightly golden-yellow and its eyes were just two small beads of blue. On top of its head was a single horn that actually made it less threatening. It was sniffing at a small flower.
Hayato looked left and right to see that everyone was staring at the monster too. Though unlike him, their gazes looked like they just found a jackpot of [Experience Enhancing Potion]. He wondered if the monster was THAT valuable. Probably sensing the stares of almost a hundred people, the small ball of fluff turned and immediately froze on the spot.
No one moved, not even the small ball of fluff. Choosing this chance, Hayato activated his [Advanced appraisal] and got the information on the monster.
[table]Hokkori [tr]
[tr]Type:BeastATK100Level:10DEF:100HP1000MP:100Hayato found something off about the information that he got. ‘How did a level 10 monster have those stats…?’ So he activated his skill three more times when it changed slightly
[table]Hokkori [tr]
[tr]Type:BeastATK100Level:10DEF:100HP1000MP:800RankancientMonster rarityUltra rareHayato almost dropped his jaw. That small ball of fluff was an ancient ranked monster. ‘It is an ultra-rare ancient ranked monster, meaning that it was probably a boss monster… but why does everyone here look like they just found a piece of meat after being starved for two weeks?’
The small ball of fluff began hopping away in great haste away from the people at the gates. The others, even Hayato, began to chase after the monster. Those that were in the field also began joining into the fray and soon enough: there were at least 150 people chasing after the [Hokkori] into the forest where they had to split up in order to find it.
==========================
***Hayato***
“Must be some kind of EXP pot…” Hayato commented as he searched through the thickets in the forest. There were several others besides him searching the area and all of them had formed parties in order to share the monster’s EXP when they kill it.
Hayato found no use in making a party since it would only slow him down. Not only that, if the party members were too far; they cannot gain any reward even if someone in the party killed the monster. So choosing the lone wolf route on the current search, Hayato wandered farther from the other people.
“Hm…” Hayato hummed. Even though the [Hokkori] was quite neon-colored, it would be somewhat impossible finding it with its football size of a body. “How am I going to find it in such a large place?” For all he knew the monster could have already been killed and he was just searching in vain. “Why am I even trying to find it?” He said out loud but to be honest: even he wondered what the monster would give him upon killing it.
He heard a slight rustling not made by his movements. He crouched behind the thicket he was standing in and slowed his breath. He heard some more rustling and a snapping sound before a small squeak alerted him that a monster had fallen for a trap.
Rising up from his hiding place, Hayato found the small ball of fluff trapped inside a net looking scared and making a lot of noise. When it saw Hayato, it made even more noise. Hayato approached the small [Hokkori] and examined it up close as it tried in vain to escape.
“If Ayra was here, she would have probably turned you into a stuffed animal…” Hayato commented with an amused face causing the small thing to struggle even more. “Stop struggling will you?” Hayato was about to reach for the top of the net when he heard a commotion coming his way.
“I heard it! That monster must be here!”
“Come on! Before anyone else finds the monster!”
“I can’t wait to get those EXP and rewards!”
It was the group that was with him not long ago. The sound of the struggling monster had alerted them of its whereabouts making the small monster tremble.
Hayato looked towards the sounds of people and then towards the monster. Even if he was an assassin once, he still has a soft spot for some things. The fact that his younger sister told him ‘not to kill anything cute and fluffy’, not that he knew what fell into those categories, made it even harder for him to kill the monster; Even if only a little.
“Are you edible?” Hayato suddenly questioned the thing causing it to shake its head/body. “Do you eat people?” again the [Hokkori] shook its head. “You like playing with flowers?” It nodded its head. “Can you fight?” it shook its head once more. “Whatever you do, do not move or make any sounds, got it?” The monster looked at Hayato confusedly as he stood in front of the net and spread his tail around the net.
Not long after he had done that, a group of three people in different attires came out of the thicket right across Hayato and the monster.
“I could have sworn that I heard that squeaking noise around here!” A sumo wrestler began looking left and right.
“You sure it wasn’t just some [Forest Rat]?”A masked wrestler came out of the thicket followed by another masked person.
All three of them were clearly [Wrestlers] with their big and burly figures. Two of the three were wearing those overly decorated masks used by wrestlers in some old Mexican movie Hayato watched out of boredom. Hayato used his [Advanced appraisal] on the three and found out that they were fifty levels above him. Though he couldn’t see their status, the fact that all three of them had eight thousand HP was not easing him.
“That is odd… I can’t see anything out of the ordinary here…” The sumo wrestler was standing just in front of Hayato and as talking right in front of his face. If he thought that people in a new world wouldn’t have bad breath, he was wrong. The breath that hit his face was rancid to the point that he thought his eyebrows had fallen off.
By some odd chance, Hayato had managed to use his illusion to conceal himself and the small creature behind him. He was somewhat proud that he could save the creature from being killed by a bunch of wrestlers.
“Come on, let’s search somewhere else. Someone already searched this place it seems.” Hayato was surprised that they had found his foot prints in the thicket. Even if they were odd and, probably, had rancid breaths: they had good skills in tracking.
After waiting twenty seconds after the three [Wrestlers] went away, Hayato dropped the illusion he had casted and turned towards the creature. It seemed genuinely happy if the smiling face indicated anything but it soon disappeared after Hayato cut monster out of its net causing it to drop face-first into the soft ground with a rather loud thud.
The [Hokkori] struggled trying to get out its horn out of the ground before dramatically pulling it out of the ground and did a back flip and land on its stomach...?
The [Hokkori] looked up at him with a look of displeasure before making a gesture that looked like a shrug and walking into the nearby thicket nonchalantly before coming out and signaling Hayato to follow it. Hayato did not think too much about it and followed the little monster but just in case: he kept his weapon out of its sheath.
Following behind the hopping [Hokkori], Hayato followed it deeper into the forest. Circling around trees, traps and several people; the uncanny duo walked leisurely. Hayato then realized that there were several monsters hiding behind the trees and in the foliage. Seeing as there was nothing else to do, he used [Advanced appraisal] on every single monster, tree, rock, small/medium sized plant and even the ground. Due to the many things he had discovered for the first time, his [Advanced Appraisal] went up by 9 levels, breaking the beginner level into intermediate in no time. Now, he had more detailed information on the thing/person he is looking at.
It must have been 15 minutes since he ran out of things to appraise so Hayato looked up at the sky and accidentally appraised a flying monster.
[table]Wyvern[tr]
[tr]Type:BirdLevel1000ClassOpen-world monsterpersonalityaggressiveRankAdvancedTamable?YesATK:2500DEF:2500HP12500MP:12500SPD850RaritySlightly rareHayato momentarily stopped in his tracks. ‘Such a dangerous thing is flying overhead in such a place…!’ Hayato had read that the wyverns were a lesser cousin to the dragon. ‘If that is a lesser cousin then I don’t want to meet the head family…’ Hayato shuddered, and continued walking. Even the number one assassin in the world can’t beat such a monster… currently at least.
Ever since accidentally appraising the [Wyvern], Hayato looked up at the sky more in order to find something he had not found yet. It garnered him one level up in his [Advanced appraisal] skill and he found some interesting monsters. It was around half an hour since he last saw the wyvern did he stop when the monster he was following stopped in front of a small cave entrance hidden behind shrubbery, hanging moss and vines, several abandoned nests and a boulder. Hayato was surprised there was such a thing made so naturally by nature.
He looked down at the [Hokkori] who ignored him and proceeded inside.
Seeing as he had no other option other than to follow or to stay, Hayato followed the small monster into the cave.
===================
Hayato couldn’t help but be surprised. The small cave he was walking through was only the hall in which lead to a much larger cave with several faded murals and, wait for it… treasure. Several mountains of treasure to be exact and all of them were piled up according to their types. There were 8 piles.
Two piles were weapons, range and melee respectively. Three more were currency organized and stacked perfectly to his height and all of them were gold, silver or bronze. The piles next to the money were piles of armor and miscellaneous items as well as materials. Hayato was actually quite impressed.
He turned towards the small monster, who was searching for something within the miscellaneous pile. He waited for the small monster to finish which wasn’t that long since it came out with a small bracelet of sorts from the pile and tossed it towards him. Of course, Hayato caught it easily and looked at the monster. It only urged him to put it on. with a little bit of hesitation, he put it on.
He felt a slight lag and detachment before returning back to normal. He blinked once then twice. He didn’t feel any different.
“So, how is it?” a voice of a male brat came from out of nowhere.
Hayato looked around but he couldn’t see anyone else in the large cavern
“Um, hello…?”
Hayato looked around some more. He still couldn’t find anyone.
“Look down will you!?”
Following the voice’s command, Hayato looked down and found himself staring the [Hokkori].
“Can you understand me now?”
Hayato blinked once, twice before he took off the bracelet, put it down on the ground and attempted to break it with a stomp. Seeing his actions, the little [Hokkori] swiped away the bracelet away from the impending foot and made some muffled squeaking noises.
“I refuse to talk to the monsters I will kill; Makes it more comfortable.”
The little monster offered him the bracelet again. Seeing as it wanted to talk to him, Hayato put on the bracelet again.
“That’s not a bracelet to talk with monster. It’s a bracelet to talk to [Hokkori]. Cant you see the blue bead in the center?”
“As if a blue bead is enough to identify you guys…”
“It does help in amplifying your stats by 4-”
“I humbly accept your gift”
The [Hokkori] sighed and shook its head. “The name’s Duuga, I am a [Hokkori] that protects these treasures!” it introduced itself with pride.
“I’m Hayato, nice to meet you. is there any significant reason as to why you brought me here?” Hayato crossed his arms. He had a haunch but still he asked.
“I’m bored of staying here and since you helped me; I want to help you-” Duuga began. Hayato merely stayed quiet and listened. “I wanted to get rid of these stuff but it was such a waste so I was going to the town to offer the items to the people but I was side tracked and… well…” Duuga made a sheepish face. “I doubt I can talk to them now that they are after my hide so I thought up of a new idea!” Duuga dived into the miscellaneous items pile and took out a small cube connected to a chain to create a necklace.
“This here is an [Infinity cube]!” He introduced the item like a salesman introducing some kind of merchandise and began to explain. “It’s a small storage system created by the ancients. Made from the oldest and strongest material: Adamantium, and enchanted by the great sage [Argoris]: with a legendary spell that allows the item to never be destroyed or interfered with. I was planning on giving every treasure here to the person who caught me but…” Duuga trailed off.
Hayato understood what he meant. Even if Duuga were to try and speak to the adventurers, he would just get killed and have his hide taken for real.
“But then you showed up!” Duuga made a mid-air twirl with the necklace still hanging from his horn. “I found you were odd at first since you asked me all those questions but then you saved me from those scary men in masks and diapers!” Hayato couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at the mention of diapers. “So I thought that maybe you were the one! But seeing as people always try to kill us [Hokkori], I wanted to test you so I took you strolling around the forest! You never tried to attack any of the monsters and you even greeted them-”
“Wait I was not greeting-” “Then I knew you were the one!” Duuga cut off Hayato’s retort.
Sighing, Hayato let the small creature continue.
“You see, I found this place by accident when [[Argoris]] was still alive…” Hayato took an interest in this. “He was a great guy…He didn’t disturb the monsters around here and just made things out of interest instead of wanting to use it himself so he wound up with a lot of materials and items. He got daily commissions from the royal family so he was loaded as well.” Duuga made a nostalgic smile. “He was a great guy… playing with all the monsters around here and treating them like family… He even made them this house!” Hayato looked around the cave. Unlike the cave he went through, the place looked much sturdier and safer and less… bumpy.
“Then his age caught up to him so asked me to keep his things safe until I can find someone who I can trust with it and that is where you come in!”
Duuga has requested you to do a quest! [[Argoris]]’ inheritance
Requirements: helped Duuga, gain Duuga’s trust
Reward: [[Argoris]]’ inheritance
YES//NO
Hayato was honored that he would succeed a great man’s legacy but…
“Are you sure you can just give this away to me? I could just be tricking you for the stuff, you know that right?” Hayato tried to plant some doubt in Duuga. He really felt honored but he couldn’t just accept it nonchalantly.
“As if you’re tricking me… if anyone knew about this before, they would have stolen it when I was strolling in the forest!” Duuga smiled widely. Hayato couldn’t refute that. If anyone in the game knew about this, they would surely have done it before he could meet Duuga. “And besides: You look just like [Argoris] before he became old!”
Hayato sighed. “I guess there isn’t anything bad about me receiving a gift from you…” Hayato pressed the YES button and in his view: a window alerted him that he has finished the request and had gained enough experience to level up 15 times. He approached the piles of gold, silver and bronze and looted it and putting it in his ‘wallet’.
“Come to think of it… where does the money I pick up go to?” Hayato wondered. It didn’t go into his pockets, it doesn’t go to the bank, where does it go to?
So he opened up his character status window to allocate his free points and to see how much money he had now. He found that his INT went up by 20, his VIT by 4 and his LCK by 12. Nodding in satisfaction, he allocated the free points.

Hayato did not expect anything less from the person who had been working directly with the royal family. But now that he had a lot of materials and potions and other necessities: the money won’t be touched unless needed.
“Well, since I know there is bound to be a lot of things have yet to be identified: I will begin identifying them one by one. So Duuga, if you could close and hide the entrance for me…” Hayato politely asked the small [Hokkori] to which it nodded to and went in front of the entrance they used and it closed slowly like an automatic door.
“Now…” beginning at the miscellaneous items pile, Hayato took the items one by one and activated [Advanced appraisal]

If superpowers appeared today, what might the future look like? In a future which has endured nuclear wars, people rarely wake up one day with supernatural powers, transforming an innocent life into a walking apocalypse. Shunned and feared, these Exhumans are often violent, ever misunderstood, and always dangerous. In this world unfolds the dark story of Athan Ashton, an 18-year old with a football scholarship who wakes up to find himself a lightning-powered Exhuman. Following a failed imprisonment and execution, he is exiled to the wilds, ostracized from all he’s even known. Like most, Athan never questioned society's view of Exhumans, buying the public line that they are selfish and a danger, fit only to be reported and dispatched. But living on the other side, Athan begins to discover why Exhumans go bad, and begins the impossible task of becoming more than just his powers. Athan is dedicated to use his Exhumanity only for good, but is that enough to survive in a world where his very existence is a crime?
