《The Wandering Scholar》Who Needs a Sports Car when I Got This?

You should have seen the sight of me and my new personal bodyguards walking down the corridors of the Zhou compound. I had my two giants walking behind me, who by themselves took up the bulk of the walking paths, as well as the Senior Guard Captain, built like the type of guy your girl tells you to not worry about when you should be worrying. While I did not fear any cheating, I certainly had to fear tripping over everyone. Turns out that while the villages guards did not any uniform, and only the better class of guards at provincial cities had standard uniforms, the Capital guards did, with extra ornamentation for senior level guards and above. Everyone in a village like this would instantly recognize the Zhou clan guard uniform, much less three guards with the extra ornamentation befitting of senior guards and a senior guard captain. As such, everyone was falling to their knees and kowtowing about “Young Master bless me” or some such stupidity when they see be being escorted respectfully.
There was only one person who didn’t kowtow me, aside from any of the Elders, and that was the former Elder, whose son was the former Young Master. While my guards did not care that he didn’t kowtow or anything, it was still odd, considering the few Elders we came across did a respectful nod o their head. When Qiang asked about it, I mentioned he was a disrespected Elder who likely carries a grudge, which prompted both giants to turn around and glare at him. I’m pretty sure I saw the guy shit his pants right then and there. I told them not to worry, he had already been given his punishment and I was more focused on my departure than what I wouldn’t regret leaving behind. Duanlu gives me some modest praise for my calm demeanor.

“While it is rare for any Young Master at the Capital to do anything truly vengeful against one of those who did what the former Elder did, it would have been allowed, and honestly expected some light intimidation to ensure he learns his new place” Duanlu continues, but then I remind him of the differing circumstances. “Since we are leaving him behind, and going on to bigger and better things, not only would that pass by have been more than enough to show him what hole he dug himself into, he has no method of gaining revenge against me anyway while in Gungzhou.”
When we arrive at the big gate outside of our compound, a slight wave of nostalgia passes through me. This gate was the beginning for me in this world and now it will be the beginning of a new chapter in my story. I pause only briefly, but it was enough for Duanlu to notice and give me a questioning glance. After I mention its symbolic importance, he makes a comment about how I am profound for my age. As he says this, I spot the big crowd around over 6 different wagons and a fairly posh looking carriage.
“Well, I don’t have anything profound to say about how this trip is seeming to get more and more beyond my expectations, as I doubt that carriage is for anyone besides me” I say before shortly getting it confirmed. A fairly rotund man walks up to me, with that sort of infectious laughter that you can’t help but smile when you hear it.
“You must be the Young Master I will be transporting, I am Zhou Zhifang” the man says, where I immediately notice that he is wearing similar clothes to my bodyguards. After glaring for a second I say, “Well I was curious how you guys got here so fast, I had assumed it was some teleportation like Baohu has, but I guess a high ranking carriage driving Path could achieve something similar” Zhigang mentions how his Path has to do with extremely fast movement speed, but little defensive Techniques, making him a perfect driver for instances where a Young Master has good personal protection and extreme danger is not expected. I continue to look the other wagons, not seeing anyone else that’s notable and assume Zhifang is largely there for emergency purposes.

After we get a couple things sorted out, I ask if I can have one of trunks moved into my carriage, as it contains the documents I need to complete the “homework” Lady Zhou has given me. Upon mentioning her name, Zhifang mentions how she is known to be a good leader within her clan, and even though the tasks she gives are always fair and manageable, they are still hard nonetheless. I say in response “But I just need to design an organizational system for a hundred or so documents to be graded by someone in Gungzhou. They go onto tell me that the Clan Leader in the city is actually notoriously bad with organization, requiring the absolute simplest of methods to work for him.
I come to the conclusion that when Baohu said intuitive over comprehensive, it’s because I have to show a carp where water is. Then I remember the little extra challenges she tends to add, prompting me to ask about the trunk itself, only to find out it is a lesser type of dimensional storage, allowing it to store a little more than it would normally be able to otherwise. My estimate of the workload becomes anywhere from three to four hundred documents, upping the challenge up noticeably. I get a groan in before passing on the message to get the rest of the party, or rather caravan at this point, underway. The guards and I move over to the carriage, and while I move over the documents trunk, everyone else gets into whatever formation we will be traveling under. The last thing I hear before we really get under way is [Caravan: Speedy Thousand Li], our group speeding off like sports car
“How fast is our zero to sixty, sheesh” I ask rhetorically.
“1.8 seconds Young Master”
