《The Wandering Scholar》Don't Mess with the Bao Bao

She dismisses me for the day, having me brought to a small bedroom at the edge of the family compound, with a couple sets of clothing brought to the room by a servant, where I was told to start thinking about what plans I may consider for the near future. I spend the next hour pacing back and forth in my room wondering out loud about my plans, lost in thought “I am just an ordinary kid, I should work on organizing what I know in comparison what I am expected to know, this world doesn’t seem to be as advanced as mine, but they have Qi apparently, which sounds a lot like magic?”
While lost in thought, I do not notice the arrival of Lady Zhou, who stands in the doorway grinning the entire time while she waits for me to notice her presence. “Hmm I will need to ask how a lot of things are done so I can see where I may have advanced knowledge that can be of use, and what their Qi already provides a better alternative for” I continue to ponder. I am brought back to my senses when I hear murmuring at the door “My Lady, just because you tolerate his impertinence, does not mean I should” I hear from the man who brought me into the village.
“Bao Bao is it?” I say with the biggest grin on my face, annoyed at his earlier treatment of me.
“[Spear Art: Shadow Strike of the Kitsune]” I barely hear before his jade tipped spear nearly teleports out from within my own shadow and stopping just before my throat, stopping me right in my tracks. “My name is Zhou Baohu, not Bao Bao, you do not have that right”.
“Yes sir” I say while gulping, sweating dropping down my neck. At my acknowledgment the spear disappears, soundlessly appearing back in his hands, Baohu acting as he did nothing out of the ordinary.

“Now boys, let’s not get too feisty here, we don’t need to do a spear measuring contest here, but as little Zhou here was saying, why don’t we give him a chance to orient himself in this world and see where he may fit in” She says trying to deescalate things “I believe we have a selection of scrolls about things like our farm yields and some general history of the nation you can look through, although I believe they have gotten a bit messy over the past couple of years, so why don’t you get them back organized while you do your studying”.
“That should work Lady Zhou, can someone show me where it is?” I ask while I gather a couple things in preparation for a long night. “Don’t worry, I will have a servant show you the way, I will be away for a few days taking care of Clan business, but I expect the scrolls to be reorganized”. She replies before walking away with Baohu Zhou.
Once the two are out of earshot Baohu asks “Aren’t you talking about that one room of our clan records that has been disorganized for years? The one all the Elders refuse to go into until things are cleaned up?” She grins right back “Why yes, it is, I told the boy he will need to struggle if he expects to get anywhere in life. Besides, I don’t ‘tolerate” as you say, his lack of respect, I just am much more subtle with my displeasure”.
Back at my room “How did his spear appear out of nowhere? I didn’t even see it until it was right at my throat.” I say to no one in particular. “High cultivation and high Path ranks” I hear out of the shadows, sounding roughly like Zhou Baohu. I look around not seeing anyone around me, sweating a bit until I hear another voice behind me. “Sir, I am told you are wanting to look through some of our Clan records, I am here to show you the way” I jump slightly at these words before relaxing a bit. “Yes, yes, can you bring me there?”

The servant brings me to the other side of the compound, navigating through a couple corridors before arriving a large set of double doors. I open the doors, seeing a large office sized room, wall to wall shelves filled with scrolls, haphazardly placed, along with a large wooden table in the center of the room with a small mountain of scrolls on top, dust covering everything. “Well I see me and Lady Zhou have different definitions of a little messy, it will take a long time to get this all organized and cleaned” I mutter to myself before turning to the servant, “Can someone send dinner here, I think I will be too busy”. The servant nods before heading off, leaving me to the monumental task ahead of myself.
I head over to a wall and begin looking through a shelf to see if there is even a tiny bit of organization I can go off. After 10 minutes of going around the room I notice scrolls are placed haphazardly, with no regard for subject matter, time, or author. I begin setting the scrolls aside in piles, hours going by, four massive piles accumulating with hundreds of scrolls. I hear a knock on the door, which knocks me out of my daze, opening the door and seeing food set aside, finally noticing it is dark outside.
“Well, I at least got it separated everything by whether it relates to what is being produced in the village, Clan history, general history, and maps and other land records” I say to myself before stopping to eat dinner. “Basic organization done, tomorrow I put the Dewey decimal system into practice” I say after I finish eating, setting the dishes outside the door for a servant to get, heading off to my room for the night.
I spend a couple minutes tracing my way back to my room, almost getting lost a couple times in the dark, arriving back at my room. Yawning, I go right to bed, falling asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Monghe, stuck in a school exemplifying strength for most of his life, began to understand what he needed to do in order to be strong instead of weak. Story is mostly about nothing. Fermboi does most of the nothing. Aventina does most of the military things. Bolahulag does a balance of economy and military. Derai focuses on economy. Monghe spitfires what it means to be a typical hero. Hopefully this is enough to give a general idea to people who don’t like going blind aside from the work being purportedly “good.” Who am I kidding, my writing is terrible. I hope it improves though.

When all hell breaks loose, the two men and those close to them team up to survive and fight back against the horde of vehicular attackers and the Intelligence behind them while also clashing together over their views: is artificial intelligence a way to humanity’s salvation or doom?
