《The Egotistical Ruler [DROPPED]》Chapter 5: A little bit of life and aftermath

Lynford hopped out of his Coma irritated with his stupid death.
'How could I die by tripping, I should've healed first. This isn't the first time my greed has gotten me in trouble.'
He looked at his clock nearby, it was holographic which was becoming more and more common in households.
'only 11am?! That 4:1 ratio of time really messes with you.'
Lynford made himself some lunch then went out on an afternoon run. He didn't want to get muscle atrophy from the game. After running a mile Lynford came home and cleaned the house then sat down to watch some tv.
-TV turn on
A screen suddenly appeared across a seemingly empty wall and started showing the news. After a few boring political things and the weather something new popped up. An interview with a player of Fantasy Chronicles about the game. The game itself was becoming very popular worldwide with people ordering it before it even becomes available in their country.
The interviewer asked the player "What do you think makes this game so popular?"
The player was a guy and looked somewhat like a pop star. Obviously chosen to attract female viewers as the station cared more about views than whether or not the player was experienced. The guy like Lynford was a complete narcissist and began talking of his adventures proudly rather than answering the question. The interviewer was female and feigned interest even though she didn't know what he was talking about.
Lynford turned off the TV, sickened by the guy on TV. The only thing he caught from the interview was that the guy's in-game name was King and he was a warrior and leader of a guild that was 22nd in the rankings. After that he went onto the forums about Fantasy Chronicles to surf relevant info.

'Let's see what the internet thinks of King.'
Lynford wasn't surprised to find several forum topics about King already up, mainly derogatory ones. A lot of people were complaining about how the guy obviously got the game from a foreign country before it was released here and that the station should've interviewed a beginner. After this he searched skills and found out that it was extremely hard to get a non-common stat/skill in the first week. This reassured him that he was ahead of the competition.
'Wait this game started in other countries earlier than now so I'm actually way behind. Plus I can't play until tomorrow after work.'
Lynford decided to look up some things posted in countries that got the game early and found out that most of them already have 5 titles and legendary skills. Apparently legendary is a low rank for skills, stats, and titles which is made that way to make beginners feel good about it. The game is a cruel game that makes people feel OP then crushes them completely. Carrot and stick approach to attract beginners and punish experienced players accordingly. After legendary rank there's star ranks that are 10 times better.
~The next day after work~
Lynford quickly hopped in his Coma after running home and scarfing down a fast food burrito.

Emperor respawned inside the village next to the fountain. He looked inside his inventory to see if he lost anything and he just lost some loot and stale bread.
'Ooh I didn't really have anything to lose but good to know I'll drop stuff on death. Let's see if my stats took a hit, plus I got a few titles.'

'Nice only lost one level and the titles are nice. What the hell is Hundgesichtland? I mean this game has a state of the art translator why not translate the names too? Oh well, let's head for Schmied's place since my armour seems to be damaged.'
After arriving he noticed the yard to be much cleaner thanks to the wall repairs but the shack was the same as always. But there was a group of people partying out back, the normally filthy and depressed people were dancing with flushed faces. He found Schmied sitting down unusually docile.
-Schmied what's going on?
"Ah the main guest has finally arrived, we're celebrating the stopping of the wave without anyone dying thanks to you!" said a drunken man that ambled off and threw up after talking to Emperor.
Schmied then said "As he said this is a celebration for you my friend, of course you should join in. Please don't drink too much I'm almost out"
'He speaks normally when he's worried about running out of alcohal?!'
Emperor decided not to partake in the festivities and instead go back to the spot he died, completely forgetting what he came to Schmied's for. He found some loot that the villagers missed since villagers pick up loot too. Also he picked up the stale bread he dropped and ate one of them. Then he felt a strange feeling in his stomach.
'This doesn't feel good.'
Emperor logged off because of the weird feeling
Lynford came out of the capsule still feeling the weird sensation and headed for the bathroom.
*This next scene has been censored*
Lynford said "No more fast food burritos anymore" as he hopped back in the Coma and CLIFFHANGER
This was mainly to show the aftermath of Emperor's death with a few jokes mixed in especially a hidden pun. This chapter can be treated as a side story and the only relevant things are the stats and titles. Sorry if it's dissappointing I'll try to pump out chapter 6 quickly.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
