《Steven the Understanding》12

There were over fifty Greens now walking through the woods. Steven decided that any grouping of more than three Greens would be called a garden. No one else would probably ever know that’s what a group of them was called, but he thought it was hilarious and that was enough. He considered calling any group bigger than a thousand a forest but stopped when he tried to conceptualize a group of murderers that large.

The Beast had made a very straightforward social structure, using slaps and nods, that was almost immediately thrown into chaos as soon as he stopped looking. A few dozen fights later, four of the original five leaders were all replaced with less stabbed Greens, leaving only Lil Green Jr as what Steven had started calling the council. Except for some very half-hearted stabbing, the council members left Steven alone and focused most of their energy on keeping their followers in check. Now that Steven had a pretty good grasp on what the Beast was doing, he was starting to wonder why. Why had they gathered this garden of natural born stabbers? What was the plan?

The Plan™ turned out to be extremely simple. When their group finally stumped upon an open area in the vegetation, with a rock shelf and small cave, the Beast stopped, and pointed at Steven. It was an overly long and complicated point. There were tens, many a hundred, layers of meaning that flew right over Steven’s head because he was too busy being anxious about everyone looking at him. After the overt pointing session, the Beast then pointed at the garden of greens behind Steven, before walking over to the cave, presumably to take a nap.

That was how Steven found himself in charge of a garden of greens. The little guys were quiet enough for now, but some shuffed uncomfortable, started making little lumps of sharp metal and eyeing their anyone around who looked weak. Needless to say, but it will be said anyways, Steven felt very put on the spot. Unfairly so. How dare that little green monster not have a plan and instead rely on a near complete stranger to take care of all of the problems?

“That sonofabitch!” Steven hadn’t said anything since the Beast had recruited their first green. Every single green stopped what they were doing at the sound of Stevens voice and stared at him. The five greens the Beast had put directly under him stepped forward and nodded. That small part left of Stevens positivity lept at that. Whatever was left of his sunny disposition before the last day or so had crushed it into tiny pieces and then blew those pieces into Steven’s eyes, saw opportunity here.

Steven was going to build a town of tiny murderous creatures.
