"Just blast those toxic toads over there that are looking to eat my tadpoles will you. Or get them away from my tadpoles mine are the ones i had hidden in those reeds over there. See normally the others would be in a feeding frenzy in the middle of the pond and mine would be unnoticed" I fired a ice dagger at the nearest toad missing him by a inch"

"i am bleeding you maniac. You hit me."

“Well there is under the tree if you want to hide under that you can use some mud to bury yourself”

“Well the tree over there is hollow if you sealed up that hole you could stay there.”

one of the toxic toads got creative “move it you maniac we have tadpoles to eat.”

i used a water wave spell on them and they were thrown into the air to land with a splat on the bank nearby

I ripped up a small tree as i moved off and crawled into the hole in the tree and pushed the branch over the hole.

Todd hopped over “Hello mister you mind cutting a few pieces from the hydra. I would like to evolve”

“well technically i am a animal monster so if i can eat some of the hydras brain i can evolve a trait or two”

“Yes sir can you make a little fire it will tipple my growth. I get from the food”

i quickly cut open the middle hydras heads and toasted a tiny portion with a small heat spell . I put it onto a leaf and teddy swallowed it greedily

“Thats all i can eat for now. Tell you what you keep the rest and feed it to me over the day i need to bulk up now that the Hyrda is dead this is prime territory”

i took my place in the tree. And waited while Todd waded into the water nearby to keep a look out.

“So mister while we wait why do i not fill you in on some of the local habitat and what lives around the pond. The hydra killed all of the stronger monsters but there are still some of the weaker ones around that you can kill to gain experience Yes i know them all i listen and learn. There are some local wolves and such nothing major. I know a little because i listened while the hydra did not. The pond is a natural point for mana to build up. That Hydra ate so many advanced fish it fused with its brothers. The stupid idiot did not even try to set up some kind of sieve to try and stop the mana disappearing. But we could boss with that you could adsorb the mana from the fish that swim along here there are a lot of bonuses from that. Also humans have something called gold the bodies in the nest a few miles away will be worth something if we can find a middle man.”

“Well if i was say king of the local pond when i leveled up i would definitely level up to a legendary hybrid. The hydra was one so eating it will increase my level to that”

“What the hell are you talking about you traitor it goes by level of of age and i am older. I should be leader at least until the bigger animals push us out again”

i pushed my hand out of the hole and cast ice dagger.

A Wolf emerged from the bushes howled

“Lots of good food the Hydra dead. Come and get it boys”

i waited until he had taken a byte and then fired off two ice daggers form inside the tree

Todd came out of the pond and called “You mind if i finish him off i need the experience more than you”

I stayed still while Todd moved around the wounded Wolf firing weak acid at him. It took a while but the wolf had a wounded leg and Todd first acid spit hit its eyes. The blind wolf was no match for Todd.

Todd jumped over to me and called out “you there Terrence your the last toxic Toad left you go under the hydra and eat any fish trying to get a nibble of the hydra.Time for me to level up boss just give me a hours rest after i have evolved”

Todd began to increase slightly in size as i waited. A few birds came by and i practiced throwing dagger at them not that i hit them much firing from the shadows as i had to. But they could not land on the hydra body for long without a dagger almost hitting them

I fired a icy dagger hilt first at Todd when it came time to wake him up. “Ouch who threw that i am going to eat them.”

“i am a Toad – salamander variant. Watch this”

Todd spat at the ravens that were circling the hydra. Three of them burst into flames. “brilliant eh boss napalm spit”

he then jumped over to the hydra body and spat a weak black mist all over the body. “Did you see that toxic mist it will kill off all those flies we do not want them eating any more than we can help. Lets eat you have the rest of the brains and head. Cook them up and we can discuss where we go from here. The thing is boss you can not go out during the day and any neomancer worth there salt will not want a skeleton just join up they have there own lot and you have free will and all. Humans go to school to learn but your going to have to find a dungeon with a boss who will accept you and train us up.Not a easy thing to do or so i overheard some goblins say”

“Your the best boss maybe she can buy us books of magic i always wanted to be able to use magic. I know where to get some gold we can have her buy some stuff for us in the market”

“Well i have only heard about them but they are one of the reasons those weak humans are able to stay on top of us monsters. Some of them specialise in building things like swords and armour and give these things to other humans for gold. You can buy books and armour and all kinds of stuff in the market. The stupid monsters do not have markets and there weapons and armour is crap compared to the humans. Makes me sad to be a monster. Well less talk more cooking use your magic to cook the meat i do not want to destroy any with my napam Yup that is fine oh the taste. Sorry you can not taste it boss it is like heaven.”

Four black and one giant black wolf walked out of the forest. They sniffed around the dead wolf and growled.

Keeping my telepathy low i signaled Todd

Todds scream was intense “How are you doing jerks get away from my dinner. That wolf corpse is my dinner find your own dead wolf to eat.” The wolves did not take it well they moved closer and started to growl. As they were in range and could not see me i used drain life on them. They i launched two icy blasts one to the left the other to the right i made sure the pack leader took the edge of both attacks. Two wolves died and i emerged in a hurry and slashed to the left beheading a wolf. The leader was still alive so i hit him with my hand stunning him. The final wolf took a acid blast to the face curtsey of Todd.

“Nice work boss could you let me finish the leader? Also his brain and guts would be a ”

It took me a few minutes and nine hp points of damage from the sun to cut now dead wolfs alphas head and stomach open. Todd pointed out the parts he wanted and i picked up the wolves and threw them into the lake.

“Sure thing boss i can toast these goodies myself. but i only have enough non acid toxin to do your sword properly”

Todd toasted the wolfs brain heart and liver and puffed himself up. “Thats great i have enough experience and food to evolve almost twice. With the legendary food and the wolf leader i am bound to get a great evolution thanks a lot boss this really means a lot to me so we should talk. I am about to evolve and i might be given the option toadman or lizardman. Toadmen have limited evolution options and Lizardmen have a bunch of restrictions i would prefer not to deal with. So any chance you could let be pick legendary status again after all legendary creatures live almost forever.”

i gave it some thought “Your the best boss i will go to sleep over here and you can wake me a hour after i have evolved i will just go check on Terrence i do not want him messing up.”

Todd jumped into the water and jumped straight out again “Agh cold it is freezing what the hell. Agh i am going to freeze to death” “Well that sucks all the best places to eat are under water and i need to have things done there are some beavers i can bully into building a dam and flooding a local river. It will be epic doubling the size to the local swamp”

Todd jumped out of the water and ordered the female Poisonous Toads to get busy he wanted the hydra underside protected he allowed them to take as much of the tail as they could swallow but they had to keep a look out and turn away anything not a toad or frog. After he was finished giving orders he jumped back near my tree and fell asleep in the shade.

A while later farmer level 36 Ryan and hunter poacher Lion level 50 moved arrived i could now see Lions name in my mind. Ryan took a look around and cursed “We need to find whatever the thing is that got my bees.” Lion took a look around and pulled out his bow. “No what you need to do is go back into town. What i need to do is stay here and keep a look out. That is a legendary monster a lower level legendary monster but still a legendary monster it must have come to find out what ate its siblings. Go get the adventures from town and let the major know we are going to have to post a bounty.” “But ” “No buts that is a serious monster the town has to be warned. Look at it this way the adventurers will kill whatever killed your bees will get killed by the adventures guild and it will not cost you a copper piece.” “Your right those adventurers will make short work of whatever did this i will head back now.”

Lion vanished into the forest and only i knew where he was allowed me to keep track of him by where he vanished into. As i waited i picked up a new skill

“Well i will hold off going to sleep and evolving until we know if the next evolve is my last for a while I really will have to know before i evolve.”

“Smart i will tell Terrence to turn female and i will have all the other toads turn female we can start a new colony of super poisonous toads”

“Na just toads and some other reptiles can do it. Time to swim and get the toads ready”

It was a couple of hours until dark when Felix local sheriff and three adventurers Lucy Mage level 45 Diesel soldier level 55 and Tony squire knight level 65 arrived. Felix looked around and Lion the hunter poacher appeared like magic from the bushes. Lion had his bow ready and put his arrow back behind his back “Good to see you this is a mess i have looked at the tracks. One Monster type unknown attacked and killed a legendary lower type hydra. Luckily it only had three heads but we need to get the meat stored and fast. If the local monsters get a large enough part i would say we are in trouble. They will begin to evolve at a massive pace. The hydras heads are missing and those wolves did not kill themselves so whatever did this might be coming back and soon.”

Felix pulled out a scroll “It seems we are in need of your services would the reward of five hundred gold for your services”

“Five thousand might be enough” Tony's Voice rang out Felix looked stricken “Well we are not a rich town i might be able to go to 2500 gold.”

“Then you deal with the legendary monster killer before it evolves any further” Felix was paling and sweat was running down his head “Well we would have to put a down payment of say 2000 gold the rest on account. We would need some time”

“6000 thousand then 2000 now we will give you six months to get the rest.” Tony was putting the screws to Felix.

Lions voice rang out “Well we will value the hydras body at what 10000 you pay us 4000 and you can have this quest.”

Tony gave Lion a death stare. “What are you talking about that is loot for us doing this quest. Tony tried again “Listen we are adventures we need the gold for potions and equipment. And the monster that killed this one could be in the woods even as we speak we are risking our lives it hardly seems fair not to throw the hydra body in for free.” “i know meat and that body is worth plenty blood to potion makers bones to wizards and the liver to monster tamers. Not much but you have my gratitude also” Lion took the gold and turned to diesel “Another hundred gold i set up camp in the bushes anything comes i will put a couple of arrows. I am a bit tired but i can stay up all night watch your back.” Tony began to rant “No way if he is in i am out i am not working with him.” Diesel turned to Lucy “The thing is i brought rope but a hunter he will be a better fit for us in this type of situation. Lion and felix left the adventurers party alone as they left. Diesel pulled out two crossbows and loaded them.

“Tony set up camp put down a fire gather fire wood for later and set the traps. We are going to need to be prepared if whatever killed that hydra comes back. Lucy set up a basic ward if anything above uncommon with magic level mage enters the ward i want to know. I will make a start on the butchery and we can have a good look around once we are secure.”

I watched as Diesel tied the hydra in place to some trees and pulled out a massive axe and got down to it. He worked with a easy economy falling into a rythem keeping a crossbow nearby.

Todd Crept closer to me “Hello boss what now. I think we could take those humans after dark. Course with your night vision you might be able to get away what is the plan.”

I think there is something eating the hydra under the water.” Tony barged forward “We should talk about this we are not making enough for this job”Diesel tossed him his axe “Well your welcome to take your share on your horse and try to outrun the sheriff. I also increased my maximum size growth limit once i level up one more time i will have the potential to grow into a giant basilisk provided we can get me enough good food so we go now?”

Todd jumped away slowly and three quarters of a hour later when all the liver had been removed i heard Tony screaming “Something spat at me oh its gross wipe it off. A snot monster has spat something putrid at me. This is not worth it ten thousand gold would not be worth this. For the love of the gods of goodness get it off it stinks”

“Does princess want a rest fine i am up keep a eye on him Lucy.” A sweating Diesel jumped onto the hydra and started to throw parts out. Lucy lead Tony to sit down and i used drain life on half power on Tony and Lucy. Lucy was worried as well she might be. Lucy was casting healing spells on Tony so i switched to full life drain on them both. My mana was increasing by the second. I eased off as Lucy stopped her spell.

Whatever she was about to say she did not get a chance to. Diesel was climbing off the hydra corpse and stumbled “Get ready boss my toxin was a bit more potent now that i have leveled up. I will give the mage a scare you knock her out.” Todd let out a scream that did not sound like a toad “GRIRR GLOP GRIRR”

Then his eyes glowed in the darkness for a second and a green flame could be seen shoot into the air. He must have jumped into the air for the glowing eyes seemed to move ten feet into the air and flame belched again. Tony screamed and a liquid flowed down his pants. Lucy stood there petrified. Diesel jumped towards the crossbow he had left near his tent and i lept forward to stop him. Casting a low level icy blast at the fire as i went past. Lucy snapped out of her state and began to chant. Tony got up and ran into the forest. I gave Diesel a tap on the head and ignited a small flame spell around my head. Lucy turned and fainted.

I quickly used drain life on Lucy until she dropped to a quarter life points. Then i moved over cut the ropes that held the hydra in place and then tied up Diesel and then Lucy. I looked at Diesel he did not look good so i found Lucys gear and

forced a few potions down his throat starting with cure poison and cure disease. I heard screaming from the forest and found a terrified Tony not moving but staring at Todd whose eyes were glowing. I looked down he had stood on one of his own bear traps and passed out when he came to he had found himself staring at Todd and was now frozen in fear.

“Hi boss guess what i just learned terrifying gaze. It freezes weak willed people in place.”

I tied Tony up with his own clothes and then threw him over my shoulder and placed him with the other two. “Half a hour eat the best material you can. I will be back. I will walk over the bank because i have no idea where the wards or other traps are.”

I found the ant colony exactly where Todd said it would be and used drain life.

i checked the skills it looked like i was near to increasing mana mastery and drain life ability on my own. The crystal varient would increase my mana but my mana regeneration would decrease. But i guessed void magic godlem effect would stack with the void magic lesser. And while i guessed the stone godlem would eventual lead to earth mastery i would find another way.

I stopped by a fallen tree on the way back and killed enough beetles to increase my exo skeleton and drain life to maxium. It also increased my level to 85 i guess maxing out a skill with cap level removed gave you 5 levels.

Three more and i could evolve into something greater.

I moved back to the camp to find Todd munching away on some Hydra meat “Almost there boss this is some good stuff. Next evolution watch out i am becoming a hydra – toad varient not toad hydra varient”

i wandered around the camp taking anything of interest a shovel rope backpack crossbow and crossbow bolts 30.

then i took all the gold and magic items Lucy had. She only had two magic books and and 6 lesser health spells. Still i had her staff. And ring of lesser smite

I reached out with my greater strength and picked up the wrapped hydra meat. And tossed it over my shoulder.

Tony had stopped blubbering and screamed at me

“Your dead you rotten skeleton. I will track you down and finish you.”

“Shut the hell up” Diesel was awake apparently “Thanks for the healing potion skeleton. Listen if you leave most of my gear i will not try and track you down.”

i put Diesels purse back and began to rummage around in Tonys backpack.

“I am going to kill you you, i am going to track you down and kill you.”

Then i took the rope tieing her hands behind her back and cut the part attached to the tree. It would not take her long to use my sword to cut the rope so it was time to gather up what i could and leave

i picked Tony up and tied him to a tree branch by his underwear.

i reached out and hit Tony foot with a nearby mallet

Diesel was about to go for the remaining crossbow he had left on the hydra when Lion stopped him. “you two seemed a little dizzy there for a while and the skeleton tossed a couple of potions down your throat. Perhaps the hydra was coated with something.”

“Agh cut me down so i can get him. Agh my shorts are cutting into me” Tony was not happy. Lion and diesel managed to grab him while Lucy cut him down. “He broke my mangled leg after him.” Lion “Ha Ha HA What am i suicidal no way am i going after skeleton armed with a crossbow with dark vision at night.” Diesel took a look around “Yeah we lost give it up besides that was a unique varient skeleton or something. It was strong must have cleaned us out good we might break even on this job but only just. You want revenge you can go after in during the day with dogs to track the scent of the meat.”

monster bonuses mostly lower level one left level 90

skeleton will change make up to something in evolution

monster -> skeleton -> construct

this will mean it will gain mostly monster traits rather than weaker skeleton ones
