《Re: Corruption》Chapter 9: Failure

The door slowly opened.
With the aura from behind it becoming clearer and clearer, I lost my cool.
My eyes widened and mouth open I just stood there, stunned.
“Boy…*pant*…It’s you…” (???)
I thought him dead, yet he stood before me.
A huge mass of muscle, a now dark skin, wounds everywhere. He had a look of agony on his face, someone did this to him…
Ripped OgreNameTralgurTitleBrokenLevel2
(I forgot to mention that the ripped title also applies if the forceful evolutions fails)
He looked as if he was about to collapse, only his willpower keeping him up.
“I see…*pant*… you evolved…*pant*… I’m sorry for…*pant* what is about to happen…*pant*”(Tralgur)
“What happened to you?” (Tral)
“They experimented on me…*pant*… The King’s researchers...” (Tralgur)
I don’t value the life of others much, except for whom I consider my family.
Although I was only born not so long ago this Ogre helped me a lot, without his help I may have died again. I consider him as my family.
And the King did this to him? Made him some kind of Ogre abomination? He will soon learn what it means to hurt someone I consider important. I will make him beg for death!
“Boy…*pant*… you have to do one…*pant*… thing for me.”(Tralgur)
“What is it? I will do my best.” (Tral)
He, unarmed, started charging to me. I almost forgot where we were. The arena.
Many enter, few leave.
“KILL ME BOY!”(Tralgur)
When he ran half the distance between us his muscles began to grow, destroying his skin, and his eyes started to glow in a bloody red.
Skill: Berserk (complete) learned
He won’t care if it’s me or anyone else anymore. That’s how he survived in the arena, by killing whoever stood in his way. That’s the only way to survive here.
I dodged last second using leap to create some distance. I wanted to talk to him, but as how he was now, he would neither listen, nor answer. I need to fight.
Without hesitation I leaped back to Tralgur, directly in front of him, the moment he tried to grab me I leaped directly upwards, slashed his arms and shoulder and landed on his back, just too slash a last time and leap away again.
Even though I just completely one-sidedly should have done some serious damage he almost didn’t bleed. If not for the cleaver he gave me, I wouldn’t have been able to make him bleed at all.

The problem was simple, his skin and muscles where too thick to make real wounds with my weapons and my strength.
Using various tactics I managed to inflict some minor injuries on his body, when he managed to hit me.
I flew across half the arena, several of my ribs broken I felt death approaching me as Tralgur jumped into my direction.
As he stood above me I felt the rage in his mind weaken.
I heard a crazy laugh from behind me from Lust.
“That’s how it’s supposed to be boy, I’m sorry.” (Tralgur)
He lifted me up, I felt how he slowly cracked my skull, the pain was too much for any normal being to handle. Luckily I am not normal.
Acidic Spit hit his ear, when Chiuco decided to break my orders and help me, giving me the chance to get Tralgur’s weakspot, his exposed stomach, with my strongest magic.
I channeled all Darkness power (/mana) I had inside me into my hands. I already dropped the cleaver.
Skill: Magic body reinforcement (normal) learned
Using everything I had I pierced his skin and muscle with my now magically reinforced claws.
I felt how his his flesh dissolved under the influence of my Darkness magic, but it wasn’t enough.
Tralgur was an extremely experienced fighter, he survived longer in the arena than most Gladiators.
He himself doesn’t know anything other than the arena.
Years of fighting on the edge of death gave him fast reactions, fast enough to throw me, who he still grabbed, at the arena’s wall before I could reach his heart.
His eyes started to shine red again, everything started over. Only that this time not me was the target, but Chiuco, who was too stunned to move. Not many would be able to control themselves when an enraged two and a half meter tall Ogre furiously charges at them.
I lied at the wall of the arena, just watching how Chiuco barely managed to dodge the Ogre, but still managed to use one of his acidic spits and hit him directly in the eye.
A Lizard that only days ago had problems fighting a few Goblins now manages to hurt an Ogre such as Tralgur. I’m proud of the little guy.
I watched for several minutes how Chiuco barely survived, jumping and running at every chance, when he got cornered.
The aura Tralgur still gave off told me that he was now in a state between being a maniac Berserk and his normal self, he had everything under control and still had access to the power and mindlessness of a Berserker. Truly terrifying.

I remembered, the potion I took with me, the one the guard gave Gur.
I grabbed into my pocket only to feel that it got shattered while we fought, that was to be expected.
I grabbed al the shard and held them above my head, so that every drop of the liquid would drop into my mouth. It was enough to lessen the pain from my broken ribs, but not enough to heal the wounds.
I looked up and saw how Chiuco screamed as Tralgur squeezed his arm. He had no chance to flee.
Skill: Mindful Berserker (complete) learned
That’s my last resort, all I got left.
I want to survive.
I will do everything for that. And if it means to lose my mind, than that is a small price to pay.
#POV: Chiuco#
MY ARM! IT HURTS!
HE’S RIPPING IT OFF! SAVE ME!
The pain was too much to talk, I only screamed without forming words.
I screamed even more as I felt how my bones broke and my flesh teared apart.
It felt like hours passed by, all I heard was a crazy laugh from the Ogre, nothing more.
My vision went black but I still felt the pain. Oh please just end it.
Using the last bit of power I had in me I breathed fire into the Ogre’s face, giving me seconds of rest as he loosened the grab on me to extinguish the flames on his head.
I looked up to him, I knew I would die here. Maybe in a few seconds, maybe from the blood I lost.
This fight was my inevitable death.
As I looked at the Ogre’s face, I saw something on his back. It was furiously biting and clawing him.
Tral’s whole body was colored red, his eyes glowing brighter than the red moon that is sometimes visible at night, his cries of anger louder and stronger than anything I heard before.
The Ogre couldn’t do anything, he screamed and ran around to get the Gremlin of his back, after about a minute he just let himself fall, trying to trap his enemy between himself and the ground.
Useless. Tral simply grabbed his head and spun himself on the Ogre’s chest, where he started clawing into the wound he earlier inflicted.
Before the Ogre came to his senses and tried to grab him, but Tral got hold of one of his ribs and ribbed it out before jumping away.
I felt the blood rush out of my body, my last moments approached.
The people who watched us looked all stunned, they had a look of a mix of fear and confusion on their face.
The Ogre still lied on the ground, in too much pain to stand up, with Tral directly behind his head.
With a wild scream he gushed his opponents eyes out and leaped on his chest.
There he did a last effort and pierced the Ogre’s heart with his claws.
It was over. I can’ breathe anymore…
#POV: Tral#
I don’t remember much.
All I know is that Tral was about to destroy Chiuco’s arm when I decided to use my newly acquired Berserk skill. As I used it this showed up.
Skill Berserk and Mindful Berserker combined and formed Skill True Berserk
Then I lost consciousness almost completely, I only recall how I clawed at Tralgur’s back and how I gushed his eyes out.
Right now I am lying next to him, he isn’t breathing anymore.
“Tralgur, are you still alive?”(Tral)
“Did you…chose… a name yet?” (Tralgur)
“Yes, I named myself Tral when given the choice. One of the others took Gur as his name.”(Tral)
“Hmph you idiots… You honor me… Thank you for this, I owe you one”(Tralgur)
He coughed blood and I knew that his last moment of life just ended.
I felt a single tear on my cheek.

----------------------------------------------
I will from time to time add stuff to the Info chapter (like new things like variant, etc.) .
Also I already decided on what to let him evolve into. The race I used is completely made up.
I will write several side stories from his past life or the life of other important characters from time to time too. Deal with it.
And yeah that’s pretty much everything.
Thanks for reading.

An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
