Chapter 1
It was a perfectly normal Sunday afternoon and Zes was on his way to the subway station and had just stopped at a fast food shop to get a quick snack, when suddenly a bright light appeared on the street. The people on the street stopped and stared at the strange scene that was happening before their eyes and moments later you could see mobile phones taking photos or videos.
Zes stared inquisitively at the strange light and could vaguely make out a person standing inside of it. Shortly after that even more lights appeared. More and more people gathered around this strange light and kept taking photos of this phenomenon.
T
he next moment there was a huge explosion and Zes heard a maniacal voice, “Hahahaha I finally broke through… Look what nice Humans there are around here… Seems like there will be enough food for now. Though I guess I have to leave some for the others as well.”
As the bright light finally faded Zes could see the features that resembled a human. It was a middle aged man, clad in some strange looking clothes that were reminiscent of old Chinese robes, described in some Xianxias that Zes had read in his free time. Even though the man looked just like a normal human, something was not quite right about him and one couldn’t shake the feeling that he was something completely different. Furthermore the words the man just said made it even more unlikely for him to remotely human.
Suddenly the man stuck out his hand and some people in his vicinity got sucked up and flew through the air towards the man. The man causally waved with his hand and under the miserable screams of the people, the people who got sucked up turned into walnut-sized bloody beads. After that the middle aged man just opened his mouth and the beads flew into his mouth.

A horrendous silence ensued… No one dared to move or speak a word. The silence was broken by a little girl who started to cry out loudly. It became chaotic. The people started to run away to all directions, trying to get as far away as possible from this monster in the form of a human.
Just as the people on the street started to run the other lights also faded and revealed more beings wearing similar clothing to the ones the middle-aged man wore. Zes quickly reacted and ran off into a nearby alley. Just as he got into the ally he heard the abysmal cries of human dying.
Shuddering he thought about the situation and forced himself to calm down, “Shit that’s just as in xianxias. Those people should be some kind of being that descended into this plane. According to xianxia they should have techniques and formations we humans from this plane cannot win against. Though it might be not as bad as I think… but… those things there just killed some people by only waving their hands.”
After he reached another street he didn't stop but instead started to run even faster trying to get out of the city.
“If these guys are here, there is no guarantee they are not in other cities and nations. The best Choice is to first get out of the city and head for less populated areas. They seem to eat humans or at least enjoy hunting them, so they will probably focus on the more densely populated areas. I should be able to survive, as long as I can get into the forest areas.”
-Zes came across another street and saw how policemen tried shooting down those beings with their guns. The bullets were not even reaching them instead it just kept bouncing off a few centimeters before it reached the demons, it was as if there was an invisible shield before them that stopped the bullets from hitting their bodies. The demons were shooting out laser like attacks and laughed as the police desperately tried to survive and somehow pierce though the invisible shield.

Trying to maintain his composure he carefully analyzed the situation, “Just as I thought, it seems they have some kind of technique that allows them to make a shield that blocks bullets.”
Zes continued to run, since he couldn't change anything and it would only be him looking for his death, if he were to try helping them. He wasn't a cold person, but there was no sense in dying a meaningless death without changing anything.
That was Zes’s nature. He would somehow try to find a way to fight these strange beings and fight for a place in this world. But he wouldn't risk his life if it wouldn’t change anything.
He would protect his family by all means possible, without even thinking twice about it. He would commit suicide if he could stop all of this, but he surely wasn't ready to die a pointless death.
If he had to die, he would rather die fighting than act like a coward. Nevertheless if he had the chance to survive and maybe just maybe get a chance of getting revenge on these strange beings, he would then survive by all means and do anything to get revenge for all the humans that died.
Suddenly Zes thought of his family and stopped. Even though he had resigned himself to not help others, it was his family after all. Luckily he was only a block away from his house and it only took him a few moments to get to the block his house was in.
As he got onto the street he got to see something that he wouldn’t be able to forget for the rest of his life. His mother lay on the ground pierced by arrows. His brother lying a few steps behind her also having arrows sticking out of him. A sinister looking woman floating in the air while holding his father by the head single handedly. Then there was the sound of blood splashing onto the ground and Zes saw the headless corpse of his father plummet to the ground.
Zes screamed and tears ran down his face. In that moment his world turned first gray and then crimson red. He lost all the reason that he had. An aura rose up around him. The woman felt the rise of a baleful aura and turned towards it, only to see a pair of crimson red eyes charging on her.

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?

A Hunt Upon Wings of Shadows
Lianne has spent the last few years of her life as a nomadic monster-hunter, aimlessly taking jobs and disappearing without a trace. Her innately high ether reserves are the only thing that’s keeping her alive. After a painful yet successful contract, she receives an offer to hunt a peculiar beast from a mysterious man who- much to her dismay- pairs her with a man by the name of Sirius, a skilled swordsman with too much empathy to give out. At the same time, inside the impossibly tall walls of the divine city, a group of soldiers including a naive yet powerful girl by the name of Felicia, an exemplar soldier named Raynauld, and a scarred and aloof woman named Maria prepare to head out on a mission to deliver justice to a deserter who is reported to be in a large town far outside the lush interior of the city. However, the two groups will find that their paths will intertwine, and painful memories will push them against each other at every turn, with new monsters emerging from the shadows to pick each of them apart piece by piece. ************************** Alright, so this is the first book I've posted here, and I've been sitting on this idea for a long while. I'm open to any pieces of criticism, and I would be glad to receive tips and advice. Enjoy! Normally, new chapters come out Saturday nights, sometimes double uploads if there's a short chapter or if I feel like it. That's subject to change if I run out of the current backlog. Second note, this is the first draft, and some things (like a few characters) are going to be cut. It's still going to be the same storyline, but keep that in mind.
