《Gods Game》Prologue

"Damn it!!" The god of War shouted. His voice rang out from the vast abyss of space.
Seven planets were pulled out of the cosmos and set in a circle before a group of beings that had no real substance to the human eye. They stared at the ring of with an eighth one in the middle. If a person could see their expressions they would notice each had various degrees of anger and disappointment.
"Another failure!" The goddess of Love shouted in complete outrage, though her reason for being upset was far different than the others.
"Perhaps we've underestimated these humans. Perhaps we need to include other races?" The god of Night said, trying to placate the frustrated one.
"We've tried that," The god of Wisdom spoke up, the tone neutral. "We've gone to the elves, to the vampires, to the werewolves, everything. All have proven, disappointing, in one way or another."
The collective sighed as one.
"Then we have no choice. We have to gather them from, there." The King of the gods said.
The collective gasped in shock.
"But we swore that we wouldn't! Especially after what happened last time." The god of Wisdom shouted, breaking out of his usual neutral zone.
“Then we’ll just have to be more careful with the lot we choose this time.” The King of the gods commented, sounding as if that should have been obvious.
"Look at what they've done to their planet, to each other!" The god of Day growled.
"They should be at the part of life where they are all mostly pacifists, and working on advancing their people and keeping their planet alive." The god of Heroes pointed out.
"But they aren't! They are more interested in establishing dominance over each other!" The god of Wisdom threw in.

"I know." The authority in the tone left no room for argument or further outbursts. It was a reminder of why this one, was their leader. "But we have no choice. All others have failed. Perhaps we need a selfish group of humans to accomplish our goal. We’ll play it safe this time."
The collective said nothing as they looked at the last planet. Each sighed heavily.
“We’re Gods!” the goddess of Love shouted out. “We’re better than this! We simply have to think outside the box, use our imaginations.”
“Considering our names are what we are the patron God of, we clearly lack imagination.” The god of Demons commented sounding rather bored.
“Still, I agree.” the goddess of Elements said softly. “This could be good. This could be what we all need.”
“Says the one who’s never chosen a champion before.” The goddess of Love quipped.
“I simply haven’t found the right one. Who knows, maybe I’ll find one on this collected mess.” Elements commented nonchalantly.
“Then we shall look, and we will choose.” The god of Demons said, putting an end to an argument before it even began.
For a long time, they stared down at the planet in question.
“Love, here are a few for you to choose from.”
“I can pick my own champion Elements!”
“Considering the mess we just witnessed, your judgment cannot be trusted.” the goddess of Elements said patiently, though her annoyance could be heard in abundance.
“You will pick from what you’ve been given Love. Or else.”
“As you wish, my King.” the goddess of Love seethed.
