《Back to Pokemon and Earth》Chapter 6: Reaching Pallet Town

So it all matters to one question: what is my Pokessence Type?
Archer was thrilled for his future, since not everything he previously knew were the absolute truth here in this world. There was science involved, and that was his biggest strength: science! Both his parents were scientists, and he was exposed to it since chilhood. He decided that he would delve further in this, and use science, his prior knowledge, as well as his charms to create something that could impact the Pokemon World. He cackled loudly, scaring the shit out of Shane.
"Fucking Magikarp! What the heck?" Shane clutched his chest, his breathing ragged. "Are you out of your mind?! I bet your Pokessence are Dark and Ghost!"
Still giddy, Archer patted Shane. "Sorry, hehehe. Last question, how do we know our Pokessence?"
"Both the Pokessences of Trainers and Pokemon can be read using the Pokessence Reader. It is used like a stethoscope, very simple to use. Just connect the Reader to the PC, and after a few minutes, voila, you'll get the results right away." Shane already recovered from his earlier fright, now sitting straight. "Wait until you register, it's part of the process."
"Oh, that's...very convenient."
"Yes, it is. Enough about the Pokessences. Now I want to describe to you the reasoning behind my actions."
"Like what?" Archer asked.
"See, Magna has Analytic as its ability, so I needed to let the Tentacools take a move first before hitting them with my Thunderbolt. It's a no for me to let Magna zap them while they are in the sea, for it would hit my Jane as well, so I let Pudgee use Whirlwind to lift them up, separate from the water, leaving them vulnerable to Magna's electric attacks. The 30% boost from the Analytic assures my Magna to zap them to oblivion. A battle, whether a random encounter or against trainers, one should use all the Pokemon's skills, abilities and strengths to get that win. Am I clear?"
Archer nodded as he took the book out.
ANALYTIC In battle
If a Pokémon with Analytic executes its move after the Pokémon it originally targeted has already acted this turn, the power of its move is increased by 30%. Using a move and switching to another Pokémon count as having acted, while Mega Evolving, shifting, or the charging phase of Focus Punch do not.
In a Triple Battle, this means that if the Pokémon with Analytic is targeting a Pokémon in a flank position that chooses to switch with its ally in the middle, its move's power will always be normal when it attacks the Pokémon that is shifted into the flank position; but if the Pokémon with Analytic targets a Pokémon in the middle whose ally on a flank chooses to shift into the middle position, its move's power still depends on whether the Pokémon that was in the middle (and is now on a flank) has acted when the Pokémon with Analytic uses its move.
Outside of battle
Analytic has no effect outside of battle.
Guardian's Notes: Even without this ability, you'd be dead if you are hit, considering your weak body.
Archer recalled how the battle went. It was vivid in his mind, the way Pudgee attacked the targets with precision, and the explosive power of Magna's Thunderbolt increased by the Analytic ability. Short yet effective. Curious, he asked Shane with, "Do we have to shout the name of our attacks when we battle?"
"Not really. I just wanted to sound cool, hahaha."

"Urk. Anyway, your Pokemon already knows what you are thinking when you fight?"
"Yes and no. Eh, you'll learn everything when the time comes. For now, just be content with this."
"How come you know many things? Even the technical aspects, you taught it to me very well, like a teacher does."
Shane puffed his chest, seemingly proud. "Of course. If I don't know even simple things like that, then I'd be not worthy of being called Professor Oak's Aide."
"You're his assistant? Where are your eyeglasses?"
"Now do not stereotype me okay? I may not look like one but I'm one of them."
Archer blamed the Pokemon game for making him jump into conclusion, since every aide of Professor Oak had glasses and wore lab suits wherever they went. "Sorry. Uh...look. Is that Pallet Town?"
A village full of houses and surrounded by trees came into view. The time was now 5:30 PM, and it took them for about seven hours to reach their destination, from Cinnabar Island to Pallet Town. The sky was tinted red, and it was getting dark. There were many lights that lit the roads, and Archer could see people busily strolling along the seashore. They were getting closer and closer, and the images were getting clearer as well. He could now even see a red, crab-like Pokemon playing together with a girl at the seaside. The smell of the sea was nauseating for Archer, and he was already exhilarated to walk on dry land.
"So, what can you say about Pallet Town, isn't it great?" Shane folded his arms on his chest, looking at the bright village.
"Yes, it reminds me of something...nostalgic."
"Eh? Something came into your mind? Did you regain some of your memories?"
"Er...no. But the place makes me somewhat...lonely." Archer closed his eyes, took a deep breath and sighed. "Don't mind me, this will pass soon."
"If you say so," Shane replied, staring at him intently. "Well, prepare yourself, we will dock as soon as we reach the shore."
Archer smiled bllissfully. This is his new life, and he didn't know for how long would it take him to stay here, maybe forever. But one thing was clear for him. He would grabbed every opportunities available for him, and he would start his life anew.
Maybe I'll meet my wife here, and have my kids and grandkids, living with Pokemon. Who knows?

"Jane, come back."
Shane returned his Lapras back inside the pokeball, and attached it onto his belt. "So, ready to go to the National Statistics Office?"
"Err...yeah?" Archer said doubtfully, his eyes lingering at the sparkling sea.
It was almost dusk, and the sea reflected the colors of the sky: red like ruby, sparkling like the stars. "Sunset never change. It is always beautiful wherever you are, no matter what color it is," Archer whispered to himself. Turning around, he went inside the cabin and saw Shane talking to a short guy, which seemed to be a worker in the pier. Shane pointed his fingers at the trolley then soon enough, the other guy lugged the trolley to the black van parked outside.
"You done enjoying the scenery?" Shane grinned. "I couldn't blame you. It is my favorite pastime as well. Everytime I feel weary, I'd just look at the sunset and, surprising enough, comforts me more than women and beers."
Archer chortled as he walked beside Shane, pacing toward the clearing. It was wide enough for vehicles to pass, and the trees adorning the sideways made the journey more comforting and relaxing. As they were strolling, a spider-like Pokemon dropped from a coconut tree, wondering if it was injured, falling from such a high place. He pulled out the book and read the status:

Archer was still looking at the information when Shane tapped his body and asked, "What are you staring at?"
"Can't you see the book that I am holding right now?" Archer retorted, confused as to why he was asking about such obvious things.
"Like what? I can't see anything."
Archer was still confused until something dawned on him: Shane couldn't see the book. Sweat started to cover his face, blinking stupidly as he thought of ways to deal with the situation. He was afraid that Shane will take him as a crazy person.
Aha! I know now.
First, Archer raised his brows in a furrow, looking at Shane backing out, as if scared. Next, he slowly sneered, then laughed boisterously while saying, "Gotcha!". Laughing like a maniac, he held his stomach as he pointed at Shane, muttering, "You should have looked at your face. That was the dumbest face I have ever seen in my entire life."
Shane realized that he was being pranked by Archer, and soon laughed with him, albeit nervously. He punched Archer lightly, uttering, "Do not do that again, okay. I just mistook you for a psychopath."
Archer eyed him anxiously, now smiling as he punched him back softly as well. "How can you be so gullible? Okay, I'll spare you from my pranks. And - "
"JOLTIK!"
Archer saw a bald, light-tanned kid running frantically towards them, calling the name of the spider-like Pokemon. Soon enough, he reached the small critter and grabbed it, placing it on his head. "Joltik, where were you? I've been looking for you since morning."
"Joltik! Joltik, joltik!"
"Oh, really, you fell from that tree?" the bald kid gestured his hand at the tree. "And these guys found you?"
"Actually, we did not do anything, so you don't have to thank us." Archer informed the bald child while raising his arm for a handshake. "Is your Joltik okay? We've seen it falling down as we were walking."
The kid did a handshake. "I'm Litt. An aspiring monk, actually."
"Nice to meet you, Litt. We're on our way to the Pallet Town Square. I suggest you take your Joltik to the nearest Center to check up on him," Archer advised.
"Yes, you should better take it to the Pokemon Center to heal it properly, if it is injured," Shane added. "You've got it by trade?"
"Nope, I'm from Unova Region, Nimbasa City," Litt answered. "Our family's having a vacation right now, and we're currently staying in one of the inns of Pallet Town, just near the famous Ketchum Sanctuary."
Archer halted for a moment upon hearing the name's place, and further inquired, "Ketchum's Sanctuary? What's that?"
Shane was about to reply when Litt jumped, as if enthralled by something. "You don't know what is the Ketchum Sanctuary? Are you living inside a hole? Even the Alolans knew who Ash was, considering that he just saved the World."
"Sorry, kid. He does not remember anything, well except for a few matters," Shane defended Archer, looking at him with pity evident in his gaze.
"What do you mean?" the kid asked.
"Amnesia." Archer plainly replied as he rubbed his nape, feeling stiff and tired. "Now, what is remarkable about the sanctuary?"
Litt took his Joltik off his head, and carried it on his arms. "I didn't know that, Archer. Sorry for my harsh reaction, it was unnecessary and uncalled for."
"Apology accepted."
Litt grinned. "As part of my apology, let me inform you about the significance of the Ketchum Sanctuary to us Pokemon Trainers. It... is the home of one of the heroes who defeated the invasion of the Planka five years ago."
Planka? I never heard of a Pokemon named like a Plankton. A new Pokemon?
"Plankas are currently being studied by the Pokemon Research Institute. Its typing is currently unknown, and it seems like it has no Pokessence at all. But the bad thing is, it eats Pokessence. It's like a not Pokessence that eats Pokessence. We monks treat it as an abomination, an impure thing that must be exorcised." Litt shivered, his mouth pursed. "Those aliens were never totally defeated, many were still roaming around, God knows where. There were still people missing everyday, even Pokemon remains could be seen littered on places marked as their hunting grounds."
Archer discerned that this Plankas are somewhat not native to this World, an alien entity like him. What timeline is this anyway? Is Ash older now? Is this a continuation of the events that happened in the Pokemon Story? Archer couldn't help but wonder if these creeps were related to him and his nine companions coming to the Pokemon World. Uneasiness filled his heart as he listened to Litt explaining about the horrors of the Plankas and how it consumed many Pokemon and Trainers. Archer could still remember what the messenger replied to him when he asked about his real purpose here on Pokemon World. "You will know when the time comes..." he mumbled to himself.
"We will know what?" Litt and Shane was in unison, asking him about what he had whispered earlier.
"No, nothing. I just recalled something, a past memory."
"Wow, you remembered something?" Shane queried, his voice sounding expectant.
"Yup, but it's only a fragment," Archer lied to them with a straight face. "Anyway, Shane. Is the NSO still open?"
"NSO?"
"National Statistics Office."
"Ah, yes. It is open 24 hours," Shane responded. "Look, there it is. The white, 2-storey building just beside the Ketchum Sanctuary is the NSO. I bet you're nervous right now, aren't you?"
"Not really." Archer said. "Litt, we are nearing our destination, so see you next time?"
"Yup, Amitabha." Litt bowed with his hands held together, his Joltik now attached on his clothes. Then he ran towards the sanctuary.
"Interesting kid." Shane appraised him.
"Indeed." Archer replied.
NSO, huh? Well, show me your worse.

Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.

Interface
Welcome to the World-City of Thousel, the sixth iteration of life on the planet. These are the recordings of the people of Thousel. Thousel is believed to be the second longest iteration of life, and the overall most prosperous compared to what we know about the past five iterations. Medicine and technology have all progressed abundantly, and the world itself has been turned into one great city, governed and managed by the Governmental-Company Alliance, or the GCA.These particular recordings concern the discovery of a peculiar machine. When two very different people find themselves bound by the fate of one mysterious bot, life in the World-City begins to change… Interface is a cyberpunk webnovel set in an ecumenopolis world where people evolved with electro-sensory abilities. These senses shape the face of modern technology and life in a world where the three largest corporations run what has effectively become the government. Each of these three companies control various aspects of life in the city, and they all constantly vie for domain and power over one another. The world stands at the precipice of biological, technological, and historical breakthrough. After decades of study into microbiology, archaeology, and geology, it has been discovered that sentient life has lived on the planet multiple times over. These past peoples are referred to as the “prior iterations of life,” and it is believed that five great civilizations were constructed before the rise of the modern world. No one can be sure for certain what caused these peoples’ extinction long ago, and the theories range from simply dying off over time to massive tectonic fractures in the face of the planet. Advanced technology, far more complicated than anything the people possess today, has been uncovered in multiple locations. This has lead scholars to speculate on exactly how long each iteration of life survived and how far they progressed as a society. None of the companies have been able to find a way to make this ancient technology work for their own profit. It is as though they are each missing the final key needed to unlock these centuries old secrets. What could this knowledge reveal about the nature of life across every iteration? What power could it give to the one who wields it?Far from the investigation into the origin of life, two kids unlock a new mystery – one that ties their fates to the discovery of an old, mysterious robot. Suddenly, eyes begin to turn towards them as life in the city of Thousel changes wherever they go…
