《Rebirth: Hero! [Discontinued]》Chapter 14: Eyes on you

Blue Waters Guild: Infirmary
There lying upon the bed was a man covered in bruises. By his side were two children.
When someone looks at this scene, they'd see a battle-scarred father being cared for by his own two children.
Too bad the truth isn't at all like it seems.
If anyone was told that the smallest kid here was the one who injured the man to this state, anyone would think they're crazy.
"How's it look?"
Kanako asked anxiously.
"It's not at all life-threatening, he just fainted."
Kai replied.
"This would probably take a week to heal. I wonder how he got those bruises?"
The one in charge of the infirmary asked.
Although it would take me ten seconds at most. Kai inwardly thought.
"He had a spar with some really strong person!"
Kanako replied.
"Hm? They must be really strong to reduce the vaunted [Lion's Heart] to this state."
Kai gave a dry laugh inside.
"By the looks of these injuries, it looks like he had been sent flying and crashing into a wall at an unbelievable speed! It also looks like he was caught off-guard."
The person in charge said as he analysed Kane's body.
He can tell? I guess he really is an expert. I wonder how many people he had to cure inside this room. Kai praised the man inwardly.
"I wonder if I can know the name of the person who sparred with Mr. [Lion's Heart] here?"
The man said with his hands rubbing together.
Does he smell profit? If he could link himself with the person who defeated Kane then he thinks he could improve his skills? The man was sly. Kanako thought.
"We don't know the name of the person who sparred with him, sorry."
Kai answered before Kanako could speak.
"Too bad.."
The man sighed.
"My name is Robby Krone. People call me Rob."
Rob said with a voice full of pride.
"My name is Kai."
"I'm Kanako."
The two answered shortly.
"Wait.. Have you two never heard of 'Rob'?"
A look of disbelief in Rob's eyes.
"Can't say I have."
Kai answered first.
"I don't think so?"
Kanako tilted her head to the side.
I'm pretty sure everyone has heard my name as the best healer in this whole village, could it be that someone has bested me?
"Greatest healer in the village?"
Kai shook his head at Rob's questions.
"Healing prodigy?"
Kai shook his head.

"Miracle Healer?!"
Kanako and Kai shook their heads.
"Could it be that you two really have never heard of my name before..?"
Rob looked dejected.
"Look, we've never heard of you before."
Kai stopped Rob's repeated questions.
"Anyway, you don't look like a [Mage] to me, are you sure you're well-known?"
Kai's originally high opinion was dropping each time the man spoke a line.
What happened to the really serious man I saw earlier?
"I'm a medical prodigy even without using magic."
"What do you mean?"
Kanako tilted her head.
"I can cure illnesses faster than magic users!"
Kanako was surprised.
"Even faster than magic users?"
"Exactly!"
Rob exclaimed.
"On average, [Healers] would take a week or two with curing people of severe illnesses. But I on the other hand have encountered no disease which I could not cure in a day!"
Rob said filled with pride.
"Doesn't that just mean that the [Healers] were incompetent or still new?"
Kai cuts in.
"No no, you see.."
Rob takes a book out from a drawer.
"This book contains my life research on illnesses. The fastest way to cure them, what causes them, and what they are."
"How old are you exactly?"
Kai was having doubts.
"I've just became fifty-seven last week."
Kai and Kanako's eyes were wide in surprise.
"But..you look so young?"
Kanako's reaction was like she heard the most unbelievable thing.
On the other hand, Kai saw his grandfather also look young before so he was not as surprised, still he'd be lying if he said he expected that.
"Hm?"
Rob looked at Kai's expression.
"You don't seem to be too surprised young man."
Kai sighed.
"I've also seen someone who was old yet has youthful looks already."
Rob was astonished.
"I want to meet that person, either that person has a hefty amount of magic power or... he's a great doctor, like me!"
It's the former. You'd be disappointed when you would find out that he isn't proficient in healing magic. Kai answered him in his mind.
"Anyway, that's enough chatting."
Rob closed the book and placed it inside the drawer.
"The patient needs some rest, it'd be best to not make too much noise."
Kai and Kanako nodded and left the room silently.
When they were far enough from the clinic, away from everyone else, Kanako whispered to Kai excitedly.
"But to think you had such amazing power!"

Kanako's eyes brimming with excitement.
"I wonder how much you're still hiding.. You told me that you'll only use ten percent of your power, I wonder how much that really is."
Kanako stared at Kai for awhile hoping he would give an answer.
Unfortunately for her, what she met was silence.
"Alright, fine. Since you're not gonna speak, I won't force you. I just hope you'll tell me in the future."
Kai nodded seemingly agreeing to what she proposed.
"Maybe when you're half my current level, I'll tell you.
Kai whispered to Kanako.
He just said 'Maybe'. Kanako fumed on the inside but at least it let out a ray of hope that he might someday tell her.

She gave a hmph and looked towards the side.
She's mad. A bead of sweat dropped form Kai's forehead.
"Alright fine, I'll tell you when you reach half my current level."
Kai reassured Kanako.
"And what is your current level?"
Kanako asked gently hoping that he would tell her accidentally.
"I'll tell you when it's time. Just keep me updated when you level up."
Kanako pouted.
He didn't fall for it. Kanako felt depressed.
"Kai, I know I've asked you before but are you really a kid?"
Kanako said seemingly annoyed.
So she wants me to be the easy-to-fool type huh? Kai figured out her intentions.
"I'll be honest here, I'm actually..."
Kanako gulped.
"Over a hundred years old."
Kanako fell down on the spot.
Could it be that it was too exaggerated? Or did she actually fall for it? Kai couldn't figure that one out.
"A.."
Kanako's eyes couldn't be seen.
"A..?"
Kai was waiting.
"AMAZING!!"
Kanako pounced on Kai and held onto his collar.
"How did you do it!?"
She kept on pulling and pushing on his collar repeatedly.
"Are you really a hundred years old? How strong are you? Can you destroy mountains? Who's older, you or my grandpa?"
Kanako barraged Kai with tons of questions with no end in sight.
"Wai-"
Before Kai could stop Kanako, she had increased the pace of questions drowning out Kai's voice.
This girl...!
"I was tricking you!"
Kai's voice reverbrated inside Kanako's head.
"You were tricking me?"
She pointed at herself.
"But it was too convincing! Are you lying to me again?"
Kanako was doubting his truth but believed his lie.
This girl is the very definition of the word naive.
"No, I'm not lying. I'm ten years old!"
Kanako looked dejected right after Kai's last sentence.
"I'm really worried about you. There's a really huge chance you'll get tricked in the future."
Kai stood up and stretched his shoulders.
"I'll probably build an immunity to being tricked eventually because you always play tricks on me."
Kanako pouts.
If I was in my former body and she was near my age, I'd most likely fall for her.
But along with my new boy, I've also matured. Ironic isn't it? I'm more mature in a child's body than I was in my old one.
Just as Kai was teasing Kanako, a voice rang out from behind them.
"Kaiiiii!"
Kane's voice rang out.
Crap, he's awake! I need to get away.
But before Kai could run, Kane had already reached him by means of who knows what.
Kane tackled Kai sending Kai falling.
How many times have I fallen down today?! Kai was vexed.
Before Kai could scold Kane, Kane had gotten on all fours and bowed his head until it smacked the ground.
"Please join the [Knight Order]!"
Kane begged.
"Eh?"
Kanako looked blankly.
".."
Kai was speechless.
This was what he wanted to avoid the entire time.
Before Kai could refuse, another voice rang out.
"No! Please join me!"
It was Rob this time.
"What's your purpose, Rob?"
Kai asked.
"Once Kane told me your story, I figured it out! You doubted my medical skills simply because you are better! So I request you to join me!"
Rob also bowed down.
"Umm.."
The commotion of Kane and Rob asking one person to join them quickly formed a crowd.
What happened to my low profile..? Kai felt quite dejected.
"I'm not planning on joining anything right now."
Kane and Rob's eyes glistened.
"He said 'right now'."
"Yeah, I heard that too."
Kane and Rob whispered to each other then nodded.
"Okay! We will not force you but, you will have to give one of us an answer in a day less before fortnight."
Kai thought for a moment before nodding.
"Alright."
With that, Kane and Rob went their separate ways in preparation of giving Kai some motivation to join them.
"Are you gonna join either of them?"
Kanako crept to Kai's side.
"Nope."
Kai answered nonchalantly
"Then why did you keep them waiting?"
Kanako was confused.
"You never know."
Kai smiled.
"You're really weird."
Kanako giggled.

A Dark comedy that focuses on a few of the many people who aren't stuck in a high level dungeon when our world is translated and joined to Our Shattered Realms.
