Chapter 9: Change
Written by Etnalla

After entering the mines things had started to change. At first it looked to be pretty safe but the farther they went in the more they came to realize that the mine might even be more dangerous than the outside.
The main tunnel had many other such tunnels branching off from it every now and then. While the main tunnel was modern looking with rail tracks and light bulbs overhead, the side tunnels looked much older and appeared to exist far longer than the main one.
On the walls of the side tunnel were ancient drawings depicting tribal looking people fighting with a familiar enemy. Wendigos. Every inch of the walls were covered in such drawings and they appeared to be telling some kind of story.
Judge had actively decided against examining them too much, while there could be a possible bonus mission in store, he didn't want to deal with the increase in difficulty that activating the mission would cause. The main goal now was to survive. Besides, if they still wanted to do bonus missions they could just go back to this world when they were stronger.
He'd refrained from going in too deep lest they encounter whatever the wendigos outside were guarding. Sadly all his efforts at preventing a bonus mission were all for naught. How could Judge have expected that someone else's mission would affect them to?
---------------------
Notification:
Another player has succeeded in activating the [Until Dawn] world mission. Mission difficulty will be increased for all players.
Notification:
From now on Runts will no longer award points.
Notification:
From now on Warriors will only award 500 points, and Chiefs will only award 1000 points and a C rank reward.
Notification:
Releasing Wendigo Ancient x3. Ancients will award 2500 points and a B rank reward. Ancients will be active within the tunnel system of Blackwood Mountain.
-------------------------
The moment Judge saw the notification pop up he felt his heart drop. This mission had just increased leagues in how difficult survival would be. The triggering of the world mission had practically invalidated all the benefits a newbie would have. Now they would have to deal with the real God's Dimension.

At the same moment the entire tunnel system shook and a deep rumbling sound filled the air. Not waiting to find out what happened, Judge grabbed Lucky and sprinted back down the tunnel heading for the mine entrance.
The rumbling got louder the farther he ran. It made him feel like the sound was chasing after him. A sense of crisis filled his body and he could feel the genetic constraint getting stimulated. He fought hard to push it down and keep it from activating. As he was now he could probably only go into the unlocked mode one last time before his body broke apart, and he sure as hell wasn't wasting it on a simple run.
Just when they were about to reach the exit the rumbling sound suddenly grew louder and the entrance began to crumble.
Crash!
The entire mine entrance collapsed in on itself sealing the mine in a waterfall of stone. Judge had hurriedly stopped to avoid being buried under the rocks. With the exit blocked the rumbling sound ceased altogether and was replaced with something else.
Screee!
The almost humanlike screeches of wendigos were what followed. Much louder than anything before, it pierced the still silence of the tunnel like thousands of them had all at once started screaming.
Judge's genetic constraint was actively fighting against his efforts to suppress it. The wendigos' screams were like a wave of killing intent slamming against him. He knew that killing intent couldn't hurt him but his genes were on full alert at the supposed threat and kept nudging him to enter the unlocked state.
As the feeling began to grow Judge had realized that the screams had appeared to be coming closer to where he was. He looked around but didn't see anything, just the main tunnel and the countless side tunnels that branched off it. There was nothing there but he could feel something coming closer. Tentatively he took a few steps forward and looked into one of the side tunnels just in time to see a white blur shoot out of it.
Judge leapt back delivering a kick to the runt that had just tried to attack him. It caught the wendigo in midair and sent it flying. A loud thud echoed through the mine as it impacted the wall. Turning he brought his leg down on the head of another runt trying to sneak up on him. While the creature was stunned he stomped on its head a few more times until it stopped moving.

Bringing his hand up he caught another wendigo by the throat and stopped its claws inches from his face. Another cloud of dust rose up as he slammed it down onto the floor savagely twisting its neck in the process
Screee!
The wendigo he sent flying had already come to and leapt at him screaming as it sailed through the air.
Bang!
Not missing a beat he immediately fired at the attacking wendigo. The bullets didn't do any damage but the impact diverted its arc and brought it tumbling down to the side of him. Judge gave its head another kick, stunning it, before twisting its neck like the others.
He smiled happily that his assumption was correct. The wendigos weak point, the runts anyway, was their necks. Their bodies might be immune to regular knives and bullets but that was only due to their tough skin. A strong blow to the head would still rattle their brains, and a quick twist would take of them. He'd tested it on the injured wendigos Lucky had given but only now was he able to apply it in battle.
Covered in blood like he was Judge looked to be heavily injured but, while it was his blood, all of his injuries were healed and showed no signs of ever being there. Enemies at the level of runts wouldn't force him into the unlocked mode. They didn't even give him any feeling of danger.
"Are you alright back there?" He called out, directing his gaze at a stone formation to the side of the tunnel.
"Just fine, bro!" Lucky called back.
The kid was doing pretty well for someone who just lost a hand. Unlocking the genetic constraint increased the body's regeneration speed to an inhuman level, the mental type was a bit lesser in this degree but still enough to deal with the injury; the stump wasn't even bleeding anymore.
It was also quite lucky that he was a mental type, a physical type awakening in a mission world would basically cripple the kid till God could repair him. The mental genetic constraint had its drawbacks too but it wouldn't be as urgent as the physical type. There was only around six hours left till the mission was over, more than enough time to get the kid to the Lobby for treatment.
"Lets keep moving. More of them will be coming soon."
"Okay!"

Author’s note
Sorry for the extra wait. Gonna try something different. Shorter chapters faster releases. Also I'm sorry for the previous post. I felt like it wasn't good so i wanted to rewrite it. That's a cop out and unbecoming of a writer. What does it mean that I don't like it? It for the readers anyway. This is quite embarrassing and a bit pathetic but I hope you guys understand. This is not just my first RR fic but also the first time I have ever written anything. To top it off I really wanna be a published author someday like some the other more popular RR writers. This makes me a bit insecure with my writing. Go ahead make fun of it, because why would anyone share this stuff to anonymous faceless internet people. Well, maybe it's the fact that this is anonymous that makes it easier to. So yeah, shorter more focused chapters and more frequent releases.
Editor’s note

Miracle Angeliva
Spirits, or what people usually referred to as ghosts, are something that has always been with us since ancient times. Some people are gifted to see them. However, most of us can’t see them without training. And without seeing them, we won’t believe. People only believe what they see, after all. However, I assure you, spirits are real. Spirits are always there. Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they are not real. Just like people of ancient ages who can’t see bacteria or those who can’t see stars further than eyes can see, there are limits to our technology. Similarly, even though the current technology can’t prove the existence of supernatural beings, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. In the future, if we can develop technology so everyone can see them just like how a microscope helps us seeing micro beings, I believe everyone will believe it too. That being said, I still can’t prove their existence yet. -Raleigh Von Vlad Update daily (if possible, if not, guaranteed chapters are on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday) Thanks to gej302 for the fantastic cover!
