《The modern day plague doctor》Chapter 3

I am a little worried right now. I have been through three floors and there are no signs of anyone or thing. I even peeked into other patients rooms and besides sometimes seeing lots of blood or a pile of mush there wasn't much else. I won't pretend like I don't know what those piles are and I admit that when I first saw one I wanted to barf. Luckily the mask keeps the smell out and I could force myself to move on. But that's as far as it goes.
There wasn't a whole arm around so I couldn't help but wonder what happend. I started remembering a certain zombie show. I finally reached the fifth floor which has a storage space for medicine which would help me out. When I went to check it out the door was locked. So I had to force it open by getting a hospital bed and ramming it through the door. The door may be made of metal but the doorframe is made from wood. The reason it was wood and not metal was because of a recent incident.
A few months ago some drug head rushed through the hospital until he reached here and blew the door down with a homemade bomb. Luckily he was pinned to the ground by a group of people until the police arrived so he didn't take anything. But the walls were also damaged so they had to rebuild the wall and the wooden doorframe was put up for only a little while until they were done with the wall. So when I forced the door open it was real easy.
The inside was practically untouched which was good news so I then made a little barricade in front of the doorway with random junk I found lying around so that I didn't have to worry about the medicine disappearing. I continued going down floor by floor until I finally reached the first floor and saw a group of people. I was happy to finally see someone who might be able to tell me what's going on so I approached them. But while I was approaching them I noticed something weird about them.

They were just standing still like in a daze or something and a few feet closer I realized they looked weird. It looked like most of them were missing parts from their body. Then I saw their skin which had a weird color. It was greenish gray with patches of red here and there. When I was mere feet away from them only one word came to mind. Zombies, I know I made a joke about them earlier but did they seriously have to show up?
Then a few turned towards my direction and looked at me. I was ready to run like hell was on my heels. I saw plenty of zombie movies to know about slow, fast, and mutated zombies and there is no way I can go against any kind of zombie when their in a large group like this. But the weirdest thing happened. They just left me be like I wasn't there. I was confused beyond words as this action goes against everything I ,and probably every other person, know about zombies.
I approached them slowly while keeping myself turned away a little in case I need to bolt. But they did nothing even if I touched one. I am so confused. I did something both brave and dumb. I walked right to the center of them. But still nothing happened. What is with these zombies? Is something wrong with them? I took a closer look at them but they looked like your average zombie with guts hanging out and chunks of flesh missing. Though I did realize one thing about them. Pretty much all of them were patients. They were all dressed in patient garbs though I will admit a few zombies were dressed as doctors.
I thought about what this means and I came up with this scenario. When sh*t hit the fan and something attacked the hospital. The doctors made a bolt for it and the ones here were either trying to help the patients escape or were unlucky enough to be behind everyone else while they were escaping and got caught. Either way there were people who abandoned these poor guys and now they are like this. GOD I AM PIIIIIIISSSED. I mean, I have been here long enough to have met most of the staff working here. They all seemed like such nice people with their smiles. Except the janitor, he gave me the creeps.

Alright calm down, calm down ... okay that helped. Now let's start from the beginning. How did they turn into zombies? There is nothing else in this hospital as I started on the top floor and kept going down. Plus there are claw marks all over the walls and I doubt a zombie can make those. Maybe something else attacked that could turn them into zombies? Or something attacked and killed everyone then a zombie came along and turned them into zombies? Both are possible so let's say it's one or the other.
Next is why they won't attack me. Is it the outfit? I went a little ways away from the group and removed the gloves. Nothing, next was the boots. Still nothing. I proceeded to remove one article of clothing while keeping ready to run but they did nothing even if I was in my underwear. It might be something else that is keeping them from attacking me. I thought about what it could be while putting everything back on. Then it hit me. While I was experimenting upstairs I conjured a zombie virus.
But there is a problem. I put that into the canister and I took that off. So why? Unless ... when I conjure something even if I put it in the canister it still remains in my body. Upon realizing this I fell on all four and sulked with my head down. I am now a walking plague that could kill you with a sneeze in your general area. I may be wrong but it makes the most sense. I just wanted to make myself healthy but instead I made myself so much worse. I stayed on my arms and legs and just sulked for a few minutes.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.

Life is Feudal
No OP stuff, status bars, levels or skills. This story is in favour of more realistic setting in a world of humans and various monsters. "Behind the mask of the assertive, resolute facade that employs ruthless routes at any given moment, lies the frail, anxious heart that were once but a puny human. Reviled and revered by many, none would ever know my true allegiance lies within myself, merely trying to survive this mess." Just the life of a grumpy man child living in a terrible piece of shit or a desolate state in which I call an alternate historical take on medieval Europe. Living as a peasant who is forced to take up arms to defend his own kin. This story grants an insightful take on the life of people living under constant danger, from vying nobles who commit atrocities in the name of justice, eager nations and barbarians aiming to take a piece of the bountiful land and mythical divine monsters who resembles a walking catastrophe in any possible way. [If you're easily offended by alternate-history religion and cultural practices, then you shouldn't read this.]
