《Ugly》A Burning Introduction, Part 1

Sabrina put her head back closed her eyes and listened to sound of the armored van rumbling down the dirt road of this particular back end of nowhere. Opening them again she glanced out the windshield. The view didn't particularly interest her, seen one scrub forest you have seen them all.
Turning her head back she glanced around the familiar interior checking the location of the supplies and equipment her group had brought with them. Behind the front passenger seat, the D-storage locker's glowing telltales all shone with a cheerful green. Meaning that each compartment held the items that they had logged in when they loaded the van. The armor rack behind the driver's seat held the heavy cere-metal full body suit that Bambi preferred, as well as Rachel's light aerial armor.
Sabrina preferred to wear her own synth-leather armor constantly while on a mission. Next to the D-Storage was the weapons rack holding an assortment of guns, melee weapons and thrown weapons useful for most situations, though the distinct lack of explosives and heavy weapons annoyed her. After all you never know what you might run into.
The only true heavy weapon they had was the 50 cal in it's turret on the van's roof. Thinking about it she allowed herself to enjoy the view of Bambi's long shapely chocolate cream colored legs as her harem sister manned the van's turret.
The view reminded her of their joint taming session with their Master last night. The memory caused a slight sadistic smile to slowly spread across her face. It stretched wider as she recalled Bambi's teary eyes begging her to let her achieve climax. As Sabrina remembered how her Master had let her use him to tease (torture) Bambi by denying her release multiple times. Her breathing quickened and a slight flush rose to her cheeks. Drawing in a breath thru her nose allowed her to catch Bambi's sweet mellow scent and a bit of her Master's deeper masculine scent, unfortunately this also meant that she got a nose-full of Rachel's cloying muskier smell.

Being reminded of her Sabrina glanced to her left where she caught Rachel, her Master's Alpha, simpering at him from the front passenger seat. This was an annoyance she had gotten used to. 'Seriously, why make that empty headed blonde cunt his Alpha?' Sabrina thinks to herself.
To her mind Rachel was probably the origin of all the dumb blonde jokes ever made. Regretfully, she did know why and the reason was just as silly as the aforementioned blonde twit, simply stated the reason was her breasts. Rachel had the largest bust size out of her master's three Demi-Humans, so he made her his Alpha.
Sabrina could only mentally shake her head at her Master's irrational fidelity to his fetish. Most intelligent tamers (without senseless boob fetishes) choose their Alphas based on loyalty and leadership ability with the priority being on loyalty.
The Alpha's role is to control the other harem members both on and off the battlefield. Facing off against monsters or wild D-Girls are situations that are just to dangerous for the fragile human tamers to be physically present at, so most tamers tend to give orders to their harems from a secure location. It is the Alpha's job to ensure the Master's orders are carried out and that the harem fights to the best of its members abilities.
Rachel is too much of an air-head to give proper tactical information to the Master, but just clever enough to re-interpret his orders so that she is faces the least amount of risk. This means that Sabrina was forced to step in and see to it that the Master's orders were carried out.
Rachel's behavior off the battlefield was equally annoying, she routinely skipped out on chores and left maintenance of her equipment to either Sabrina or Bambi. The only reason Rachel hasn't suffered an unfortunate "accident" yet was because as an angelic type D-Girl she was the teams only healer and aerial scout.

'...and she is really good at taming...' Sabrina reluctantly admits to herself.
The loud voice of her Master interrupts Sabrina's introspection, "Super S! We're at the location. Time to strap it on and get this job done!"
Author's Note: The introduction is taking longer then I had originally thought but hopefully I'll have the second part out by tonight. The introduction will be done from different points of view that's why I split it into different parts.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
