Chapter 9 – the academy entrance exam

Authors note- to all that read this next week realeases may slow down a bit more as my business course starts up again but will try my best to release at least 2 chapters a week. Also I read every single comment that is added to my works so if you feel there is something you might like to see in it or any way you think the story/characters can be improved then don’t hesitate to tell me.

Eoin’s Pov

I awoke with sitra asleep on my chest as the sun was at its highest point in the sky. My hips were screaming in pain over the activity that they had to go through in the last 24 hours in fact I couldn’t even move them and im sure that sitra was the same. I sat there waiting for her to awake as I tried to lessen the pain I felt by massaging around the more affected areas. soon I felt sitra beginning to stir as she moved slightly and used her hands to prop herself up and look at me. She gave me a warm smile that made my heart skip a beat before getting off my chest and walking over to one of her wardrobes and pulling out a robe to wear. This astounded me as I thought she would be even more tired than I was.

Eoin-‘’ Sitra aren’t you tried from last night’’. I asked her quickly

Sitra-‘’ kind of but I have other things to do today so I won’t be able to spend any time with you today’’ she responded to me.

Eoin-‘’ what kind of things will you be doing’’ I ask her

Sitra-‘’ well I will be dealing with the problem of your enrolment into the academy and how we will get you accepted into it’’ she quickly answered me as she left the room.

I slowly raised myself off the bed and pulled on some clothes to hide my body that was covered in scratches and bite marks from the day previous encounter and headed out the door for the training grounds as it was all I could think of doing as I didn’t know much about the castle or the surrounding area.

As soon as I got there I saw the instructor from the last time standing there with the case of the naginata at his feet. He waved me over and open the case to reveal the weapon I picked it up and began to go through the less rigorous movements of the catas I knew that handled the naginata. After an hour of this is topped and asked the instructor if he knew where I could rustle up some food as I was starving by this point. He told me to follow him and soon we arrived at the soldiers mess hall he ordered to two meals and we went and sat down at the nearest table we began to talk about the pros and cons of different weapons such as the long sword and the katana or the spear and the halberd. He then asked me if I knew how to use magic to witch I said I didn’t surprised at this he offered to teach me the basics of manifesting a basic fire spell tomorrow after my body had gotten some rest I agreed to this as I really wanted to know how to fling a fire ball after al what person wouldn’t like to burn his enemies. After our food arrived we devoured it and headed back out tot eh training fields to practice more cata.

After I had finished training I asked for directions to the bath so I could clean my body before turning in to bed. A maid quickly led me to it and I entered to find it empty I got undress a proceded to let my body relax inside of the warm water this helped my still sore hips to relax even more as the hot water helped my muscles to unwind. I heard the door opening to see sitra walk in but apparently she hadn’t noticed me yet as she got undressed and entered the bath when she finnaly saw me she nearly jumped out of her skin she quickly calmed down and came over to me and lent against my left shoulder.

Eoin-‘’Sitra I have a question’’. I said to her

Sitra-‘’ what is it?’’ she asked with a slightly interested look on her face.

Eoin-‘’ why is it that you love me, im not trying to say that I don’t like it im just confused as we haven’t known each other all that long’’ I asked her

Sitra-‘’well you see I feel like I can relax around you and I don’t need to change how I act around you like I would when I came to the nobles of this country as most of them are power hungry sadists, plus you’re an easy person to get along with’’ she answered me.

Eoin-‘’ I see’’

Soon I was finished washing myself and so was sitra we both got dressed and headed back to her room to get some sleep.

The next day I awoke very quickly and went to the training grounds to find the instructor. He was sitting there with a small camp fire in front of him

Instructor-‘’ right first things first you need to draw in the fire to you centre of magic after that we can start properly, now put your hand into the fire and envision yourself sucking it into your blood stream’’ he said to me.

I did what he said but my hand just got brunt but the splash a small amount of water that he had beside him on it and my wounds began to heal. He explained that it was enchanted healing water and it could be used to heal minor wounds. I started to repeat this process but this time I decide to imagine that the fire acted how a liquid did during osmosis and soon I felt the fire be drawn into my body. I screamed in pain as the fire worked its way through my blood stream but the pain quickly died down. I sat there panting for a solid five minutes but soon I got up.

Instructor-‘’ right now that we have done that imagine a ball of fire appearing in your hands and chant the word you feel are the most appropriate to describe the purpose and idea of it’’. He said

I imagine a small ball of fire in my hands and said’’ I wish for the heat and the flames to roast my enemies alive so that nothing remains’’. After saying the chant a ball of pure black fire appeared in my hands. I looked at it with a smile on my face and then threw it at a training dummy that was near us and it caught fire and turned to ash in a few seconds.

Instructor-‘’well that was a good a fireball strange colour though, but that’s all I can teach you now here take the weapon that you first used when you got here as no one else in the castle can even hold it after all you are going away tomorrow’’ he said to me with a look of excitement on his face.

Eoin-‘’ thank you for the weapon I will use it well’’. I said to him.

‘wait he said im leaving tomorrow does that mean that me and sitra are heading to the academy tomorrow? Huh can’t wait to see what that place will be like’

After practising my magic for a bit more I then went got some food and came back to the training fields and went through the cata with my naginata ‘im gona have to name this thing aren’t I’’ I thought to myself. Soon it was time to sleep and I went first to the bath to clean myself and then to bed once I had finished.

The next day both me and sitra were at the south gate of the castle where there was a dragon waiting for us. From what

I could gather this dragon had agreed to take us to the academy as long as the next child in the royal blood line was to be taught combat under its tutelage to witch the condition was agreed. Soon we were in the air flying towards the horizon at a very high speed , the only thing that was keeping us from falling off the back of the dragon was the wind magic it was using to hold us in place and to keep us warm. After around what I could gather was around 2 hours of travel we arrived at a floating island that had sprawling complex all over it that dwarfed even the mansions that were back in japan it had buildings that looked to be made for physical purposes while other looked to be purely academic in purpose.

The dragon let us off near one of the larger building where there was a couple of people waiting for us one of them was your typical wizard looking guy with the robes and the beard while one looked like a normal office worker and the other was in a wheelchair.

Wizard-‘’ welcome first princess of the delia kingdom and her chosen one I am the headmaster of the institute Erudt, but unfortunately I have to inform you of something’’ he said with a smile in his eyes.

Sitra-‘’what is it you have to tell us headmaster?’’ she asked him before I had the chance to.

Erudt-‘’ well you see some of the nobles in the academy are against your chosen one joining the student body as they believe that he can’t use any magic so we decided that the best way to avoid conflict was to test him to see if he can use it’’ he answered her rather quickly.

Form where I was standing I could see a rather large crowd had gathered to see the test and that sitra was silently boiling with rage over what was happening. I was also rather angry as I was sick of this type of treatment as it was the same as my worls, the ‘elite’ thinking that they were better than everyone else and that the lower ones didn’t deserve a chance.

Eoin-‘’ excuse me headmaster, from what I gather the nobles would not like me here as they believe I cannot use magic?’’ I asked him rather quickly

Erudt-‘’ yes young one now if you don’t mind can we get on with the test I don’t do so well with large crowds’’ he answered me

He then asked the office worker to stand opposite me an cast a barrier around himself.

Erudt-‘’ now all you have to do it hit the barrier that my colleague has up to pass but you must use a spell to do so.’’

I began to think about what spell to use when I remembered that I had stabbed the battery of my phone to try and get lightning magic I was sure that due to my imagination that I had used to escapes some of the horrors of my childhood that I could pull this off.

I began to imagine a large spear appearing in my hand but the spear was made of lightning. ‘’ oh gods in the heaven I ask of you to gran me the power of the skies rage and allow me to turn my enemies to nothingness, I ask this mainly of you Lord gywn ‘’. I opened my eyes to see a large spear of pure lightning in my hands I looked at the office worker with the defensive shield up and the head master of the academy both of them had a astonished look on their face. I threw the spear as hard as I could at the shield and it is burrowing into it nearly fifty percent of the way through.

I could hear the whispering of the crowd around use talking about how the magic I used was fake and thati shouldn’t be allowed into the academy but then the headmaster raised his hand and said

Erudt-‘’ As you can see this young man here can use magic so therefore the noble who didn’t want him here have no right to try and force him out, now all of you head back to class’’. he turned to me with a look of seriousness on his face.’’ now if you would please follow me I believe we have something to talk about, your majesty you can head on to class I will make sure that nothing happens to this one here’’ he said to both me and sitra.

Sitra nodded and walked off in the direction of one of the larger building while the head master began to walk away. He motioned me to follow him to witch I had to as if I didn’t then I couldn’t gain anymore knowledge about this world and that was what I wanted.
