《Aliad [Dropped]》Chapter 9 - Summoning Trial

“Sasha!” I said and my vision came back and I turned around and saw her wearing the uniform, “what are you doing here?”
“I was allowed to use the elevator because I’m your fiancée,” she explained.
I introduced her to Alex and we sat down at the only table, Sasha sat next to me while Alex was across from us and I was wondering how we get our food.
“How do we get our food?” I asked Sasha and Alex.
Immediately a plate of very stylish salad appeared in front of Sasha and she explained, “just think of what you want to eat. Its different from the lower floors, the food here is generated magically so you can anything. Also the food will never make you feel full until you get up. So even eating a piece of bread from here will be enough to fill you up,” she said as she started eating.
We both tried it and I imagined a giant steak with a side of mashed potatoes and lots of gravy and it appeared in front of me. Likewise a pair of prime ribs appeared in front of Alex.
“This is awesome!” we shouted and wolfed down our lunch.
Sasha just shook her head beside me as she just calmly ate her salad.
Lunch was going to last for two hours but we all finished eating within forty-five minutes. We still had at least an hour to go so we just ate desert and talked about our morning classes.
As I suspected Sasha had a different schedule from us since she had Holy magic unlike our Summoning. She was sad but she said that at least our lunch schedule was the same.
I also introduced her to Malakir since I already did with Alex and she was surprised to know that I summoned Malakir after she told me what to do.
“Really?!” she asked shocked.
“Yep, you couldn’t see him since I didn’t know how to make him appear yet.”
“You got a really awesome summon there,” said Alex, “as expected of Prince Zed.”
“You really have to stop calling me prince already,” I said to Alex.
When lunch was nearly over, we said our goodbyes and to meet again tomorrow since we didn’t have the same free time in our schedules.
Alex and I walked to our Summoning class room feeling satisfied but not too full even though we ate five plates of steak and ribs and ten plates of desert.
During our lunch, I asked Malakir if I could do the same and he said that I could but it was just too difficult to do right now but he said the he will teach it to all of us when we get powerful enough. I was already looking forward to be able to magically create my own food that will never make me full unless I stopped.
Our Summoning classroom was outside in the forest at the base of the mountains. We were in a clearing surrounded by trees and a small orb in the middle of it.
Again, like our morning classes, we stood with the noble children while the commoners stood opposite us. Clearly defining two opposing camps with the orb as the center line.
At two, there was no teacher teleporting in but there was a massive gust of wind from above us. It had a long neck and it reflected light from its green scales. It was a lesser green dragon, one of the weakest of dragons. Its eyes were red as it stared at us while a figure jumped down from above it and the dragon disappeared.

The figure stood up and it was a man with leather clothes. Unlike our other teachers who wore a robe and old, just like magicians, this one was fairly young, around twenty five, he had black hair that spiked to the left, a scar went from his temple to his right cheek, he had an eye patch on his right eye, his left eye was gold and his skin was dark brown. He exuded a feeling of confidence and pride. It felt like he had seen his share of battles and his scar and his eye patch were like a testament to that fact.
“I’m Ralph, your Summoning teacher. If you thought that you would be simply casting spells just like the others you’re completely wrong!” He shouted making us stand stiff and at attention.
“Amongst all the mages, we are the strongest in combat do you know why? Its because we have to subjugate the beasts we summon before we summon them. That dragon that I rode in, I defeated that with my bear hands!” He shouted turning his hands into that of a bear.
“This is half transformation, it is the most stable and balanced out of all the transformations you all will be undertaking. Each transformation is different, my first summon was a bear that is why I’m able to do something like this. You too will be able to,” he said lowering his voice.
“That dragon would take an average of several mages to subdue but for us, only one of us is enough. You all have the capability but do you have the perseverance?”
We all nodded, we all wanted to have the same power as this teacher in front of us.
“Know that my training method is harsh, half of you will quit before the end of the week. Are you still willing to take it?”
We all nodded again.
“Very well then, run up that mountain,” he said pointing to Mount Asmodeus.
We all fell silent, Did he just tell us to run up this 4,000 meter tall mountain!
“What are you all waiting for? Run!” he shouted spurring us all to dash.
“Don’t come back until you get a scale from up there!”
We ran and we ran all of us nobles and commoners running up the mountain, waving through the trees, tripping, getting our clothes ripped by trees or bushes. It wasn’t a bad run but it was exhausting.
An hour passed by but the top still loomed way above us. Half of the nobles already collapsed behind us, not having enough stamina. I was panting but Alex was barely panting. The commoners were ahead of us having more stamina than us.
Another hour passed and I was barely out of breath until Malakir told me to inject my own mana into my muscles and organs. It was hard to do it as I was running but when I did, I felt my body get lighter and I knew that I could run some more. The commoners were already out of sight and I knew that Alex was just pacing himself to match me.
Another hour passed, we already were at the limit of the summoning class, but the top was still far away. Alex and I were ahead of the nobles but the commoners were nowhere in sight.

Finally we entered a flat area and it was surrounded by green scales.
So he didn’t mean to run to the top after all! I thought with relief.
“We made it,” said Alex as he stood there trying to catch his breath.
I was too tired to say anything so I just grabbed a scale and instantly I saw that I was back at the clearing. Moments later Alex also came and Ralph, our teacher came to us.
“You guys barely passed,” he said, “the rest of the class that didn’t make it back are no longer your classmates.” He said turning around revealing the commoners who passed that were sitting down catching their breath.
We plopped down on the ground exhausted and smiled.
“Tomorrow you all will be doing the same thing, only this time with weights. Class is dismissed,” Ralph said as he grew wings and flew off.
“I’m beat,” said Alex as he laid down.
“Me too,” following his lead.
“Took you long enough, I guess the nobles are really only good for sitting down while letting us do their work,” said a mocking voice.
I looked up and saw a boy sneering at us. He had wild brown hair, blue eyes and brown skin.
“Serves you right,” he said leaving us there. The rest of the commoner group followed him out of the clearing.
“He hates us,” I said.
“Yep,” said Alex.
“What’s his name?”
“No clue.”
“We need to pass this whole week.”
“We do.”
“How are you able to do this?” I asked looking at Alex, “I had to rely on magic to be able to keep up.”
“My family trained me since two years ago,” he answered.
I nodded and I said, “we need a bath.”
“Follow me,” he said standing up.
I followed him and he led me out of the woods. We walked towards a mansion that was just right next to where we came out of and he went inside.
“You were sent to the infirmary right when you got here so you don’t know but this place is ours,” he said spreading his arms out.
The place looked neat and tidy. The entranceway led to a set of stairs that went up and above us was a silver chandelier. To the right was a dining room and to the left was a room filled with chairs and sofas.
“Ours?” I asked after looking around me.
“Yes, I was chosen to be your servant so long as you are here. Seeing as how I was already supposed to be your knight, they just decided that it be better to get accustomed to each other immediately,” he explained.
“You’re not my servant, you’re my friend,” I said, “how many times am I going to have to say that?”
“The bath is behind the stairs,” he said leading me to a passageway underneath the stairs.
The bath was huge, there was a mist that covered the whole room as the light from the orbs filled it. The floors were tiled marble and in the middle was a Ravenex statue with water flowing out of the mouths of the heads into a pool of water.
“You can control the temperature with this podium,” he said pointing to a podium in front of me.
I set the temperature to lukewarm and we proceeded to take of my clothes.
“Place the clothes here and someone will come to clean it and place it in our rooms,” he said pointing to an alcove to the right.
We tossed our clothes there and jumped into the bath.
We were enjoying our relaxing bath when a voice interrupted us.
“Excuse me for the interruption but we need Prince Zed to come to the Magus meeting,” said the girl that helped me earlier when I looked to who was talking.
I blushed and said, “wait for us outside, we’ll be ready soon.”
She bowed and left. When she did we got out of the bath and we dried ourselves in the drier that Alex pointed to me. It was a different colored tile from the marble, it was red to indicate that it was the drier and it dried the water that was still clinging to me. Alex did the same and he told me to take the stairs on the right as that leads straight to my room where my clothes were.
I did that and was met back with the room that I once had in the castle. A king-sized poster bed was in the middle with a bookshelf to the right and a dresser on the left. Two long tables were set in front of the bookshelf and the dresser and on it were some more books.
I took clothes out of the dresser and changed into the school robes that I found inside. After changing, I headed out the door to meet Alex standing there waiting for me.
We both went down the stairs and met up with the girl waiting for us outside.
“Excuse me for not being able to introduce myself earlier but my name is Alice, number two of the Magus.”
“Nice to meet you Alice, this is Alex my friend and you already know me. Why am I meeting with the Magus?”
“You are the 13th member of the Magus, as such you must come to the meeting.”
“I wasn’t informed of this.”
“Didn’t Sieg tell you?” she asked.
“No he didn’t,” I answered.
“That’s just like him,” she sighed, “we usually meet during free time and we do what needs to be done during that time as well.”
“Alright, Alex I need to go to the meeting you can just do what you want to do then we’ll meet back up.”
“I’m going with you,” he said, “a member is allowed to bring one person with him as backup or as help in anything that the member does correct?”
“Yes, you are correct,” she said, “Alex can come too, Prince Zed, it is no problem.”
With that Alex and I followed Alice as she led the way to my first meeting with the rest of the Magus members.

To Blunt The Sharpest Claw
The Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels are a series of New Fable genre novels that involve cats and dogs and high adventure and romance and espionage and food-fights and hotels and explosions and car chases. With large casts, exotic locations and an absurdity only possible in the absence of human characters, the Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels blend Wind in the Willows with James Bond, though with more cafes and fewer badgers. This submission is the third title in its Morigan Trilogy, beginning two-thirds of the way through the series' longest adventure yet. Here's a quick recount of what's happened so far: When Oscar Teabag-Dooven, a Velvet Paw of Asquith, is ordered to investigate how a mysterious poet, the Ar'dath-Irr, is able to travel instantaneously around the world, two very bad things happen. Firstly, he meets Lydia, an insane librarian who punches everyone in the face, and secondly, the Ar'dath-Irr reveals he is intent on taking over the world. Although this second thing might be considered worse than the first, Oscar feels differently following Lydia’s destruction of a cafe, a library and his face in one afternoon. In comparison, thwarting world domination just seems easier. Along with Binklemitre, a fellow Velvet Paw of Asquith, and Lydia, Oscar infiltrates the Ar’dath-Irr’s realm of dark poetry to discover the dog not only intends wrenching the world apart but has no intention of cleaning up afterwards. As a result, Oscar decides it’s all too hard and goes home to have a bath. After lots of arguing and the sort of food fight that posh restaurants were invented for, Lydia and Binklemitre convince him that they must stop the Ar’dath-Irr for several reasons, one of them quite serious. A vibrant cast of characters collide as Oscar, Lydia and Binklemitre battle the Ar’dath-Irr and his disciples in an adventure involving exploding cafés and appalling hotels, car chases and inadvertent surgery, dreadful poetry, lots of arguments and at least one temper-tantrum, all of which draw the three into dark and convoluted corners of a world they weren’t aware existed. Moreover, any chance of sitting down and discussing things over some buns disappears when Lydia punches the Ar’dath-Irr in the face. This results in her having a psychotic episode and Oscar getting run over by an ambulance. Although Binklemitre suffers neither, he witnesses both, which is almost as dreadful, though not nearly so messy. An enormous battle ensues, followed by a dinner party and then everything explodes.
