《Archillies Duane : The World Traveller》Chapter 26

=====Chapter 26=====
-Flap flap flap
With terrifying speed, Rain picked up books one after another and speed read them.
Since she is supposedly me from another world, I could justify her hunger for knowledge just like me, and as for the reading speed, this world’s system is to thank.
As for me, I was observing her to attain the ability ‘Speed Reading’, of course… there is no other reason.
Obviously, I don’t need such an ability, as I can ‘Read’ it all with just a single thought, but what if I told you that single papers don’t count as enough for my ‘Read’ to work.
Anyhow, I told Rain that I’ll go for a walk, and made sure that she would call for me if anything happens.
What? Not even I could predict if someone stronger than me comes here and tries to take Rain for themselves.
Taking my leave, I look at the sky for a moment, then finally remember.
Soulbound weapons.
Using my mental map as a guide, I strolled towards the nearest weapons shop/smithy, until I heard dull sounds.
-Clank
-Clank
Slowly but carefully as to not disturb him, I open the door and start checking the stock, until he notices me.
“Weapons or armor, we have both.”
He said, with a rough tone.
His body is short, about my height, with a somewhat long beard and hairy head, stubby limbs, with muscles bulging out of them, showing how strong he is.
His tanned skin was glistening from the sweat, hearth doing the glowing.
“Got ingots I could buy?”
“No, sorry fella, an order came and they are all needed.”
“Mind if I help?”
I asked, with a smile.
“Haha, why not, it will take a long time by myself, besides, I have no apprentice, so you seem like you could do the job.”
“How could you know?”
“A dwarf’s eyes never betray.”
I got silent, and left it at that.
Throwing me a spare hammer, we got working the weapons, with great speed.
….
-Clank
-Clank
We both struck the rods with ease, and finally quenched them.
Sharpening them with a grinder, it was over.

Wiping off the sweat that accumulated for 3 hours, we had the 100 swords order done.
Grabbing a nearby seat, he dropped himself on it, then stared at me while I did the same.
In synchronize, we took a glance at the swords, then at each other, and started laughing hysterically.
“”HAHAHAHAHA””
We kept at it for a few minutes, then finally, he started talking.
“Never thought I’d meet a boy with such a great skill, maybe even surpassing mine.”
“No way, I could never beat an expert, besides, most of what I did was replicating your movements.”
That was the truth.
While yes, I do know how they are done, I tried my best to make them of the same quality as his, which took more effort than I should have done.
“With all that done, I still have a couple of silver bars left, and I don’t mind letting you have them.”
“Thank you.”
He pointed towards 6 bars laying on the ground, which I proceeded to pick up.
If I remember correctly, after the weapon is done, I need to merge the soul with the weapon, which is only possible with a soulsmith, who seemingly don’t exist anymore.
Why didn’t I use the previous weapons?
I want to make new ones, plus, I want to experiment on enchantments.
Maybe I could take back the part of my soul from the weapon?
Anyhow, I stopped thinking and started heating, the earlier the better.
Making myself a morningstar, and a greatsword for Rain, as always.
Since my weapon is done, I put elemental enchantments on it, then experimented with an enchantment called ‘Unbreakable’.
After putting all of the enchantments, I took the morningstar and tried to crush it.
With all my strength, it wasn’t crushed, so I tried to cut it.
Nothing happened, not even a scratch.
A person might ask, if you could so easily make an ‘Unbreakable’ enchantment, couldn’t any enchanter do it?
Yes, of course, but it took more than half of my current MP pool, which is over millions, making it incredibly inefficient and if a person actually wants to do it, then they must somehow find a mana storage and store a couple of millions of mana, then alright.

But that doesn’t count if they actually know how to enchant it.
A person cannot just go and say “Enchant ‘Unbreakable’” out of nowhere, and poof.
That isn’t how it works, a person must have great understanding of enchanting, the material, and to not overflow the weapon with mana to the extent that it self-destructs.
Many of that could have been skipped with my space Skill Tree’s skills, but due to my tours in the libraries, I had enough knowledge to start it off, but not all of it, making use of the skill’s job.
Now, as I’m done enchanting my morningstar, I do the same to the greatsword, which by that time my mana had regenerated.
Due to my high WIS stat, my regeneration coupled with my mana pool basically give me near infinite mana, so I don’t have to wait long before re-starting the work.
Repeating what I did before, I finally finished the enchanting job, so I start staring at the morningstar.
Alright then, time to start bonding.
How does it work?
Bond your soul with the weapon, end of story.
Using every ounce of concentration I have, I moved a part of my soul into the weapon, then it start shining purple.
The morningstar shook violently, then started turning from shiny silver into blue.
Finally morphing into Corromium, I stared at it with a happy expression, as I commanded it to become a second skin.
Since I did not put a wooden handle on the morningstar, it quickly turned into slime and slid below my clothes.
Ta-dah, the ultimate metal is at my disposal, and I’m wearing it.
There are many advantages to it as well, not just being strong, light and a good mana medium, but giving higher regenerative power depending on the strength of its bound owner, and the ability to shapeshift.
Of course, if I wish to make it larger, I would feed it any type of metal I have, and it would mutate to become Corromium as well, at the cost of mana, of course.
I put Rain’s enchanted greatsword into my ‘Pocket Dimension’, then notice the dwarf, Toran, having his mouth gaping open.
“You alright there?”
I spoke to him while waving my hand in front of his face, making him snap out of it.
“Haha, I must be dreaming, since I saw you make a soulbound weapon then turning it into corromium, hahaha.”
Should I tell him the truth?
Ehh… Yeah…
“It wasn’t a dream, though?”
I stretch out the Corromium in the shape of a morningstar.
Oh no, he fainted.
Conjuring a small ball of water, I splash his face, making him wake up.
Now that is some super-reaction right there.
“Are you going to faint on me again?”
“So… it wasn’t a dream.”
“Yep.”
“....”
He stared at me, dumbfounded, but then regained his bearings in a few seconds.
“So… is there anything else you need?”
“Nope, you helped me enough, goodbye.”
I gave him a firm handshake, then left while waving.
Talking to Rain using telepathy, I found out that she was waiting for me in front of the library.
I picked up a bit of speed and moved towards the library, to meet the almighty ‘cliche’ ganging was present before me.
“Come with us.”
Blah blah, the usual words.
Rain stood there, giving them no heed, but when her eyes met mine, I knew her purpose.
Sighing outwardly, I walked towards them then tapped the middle one on the back.
“”Scuse me, I’m her escort.”
“Huuuh, what are y-”
Not in the mood for their antics, I gave him an Air Punch (by using Air Manipulation), making him fly in the air with teeth escaping his mouth.
Ouch, should have lowered the output, huh.
“You basta-”
2 more punches, and they were all laying on the ground.
Giving them no heed, I went towards Rain.
“Anywhere else you want to go, milady?”
I asked, with a mischievous grin.
“I heard Bob is participating in the tournament today, how about we go watch.”
“Sure.”
Hand in hand, we walked towards the arena, while reminding myself to give her the greatsword once we are done.
….

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
