Chapter 3
Michael Estrisden (POV)
It took a moment to find the ‘Gods Online’ website. The ‘Gods Online’ site was an offshoot of Jupiter Enterprises main site. The site was rather bare. There were 5 tabs on the top of the screen. Home (which he was in now), About, News and Media, Forums and Pre-Order. Home had 2 trailers, well more accurately a trailer and an interview with one of the developers. He figured he may as well see what he was getting into. Going full screen and making sure the resolution was 1080p he sat back to watch the trailer. Which was only 25 seconds long…
The first thing he realized was the camera was in a first person perspective. The second was that the graphics were ridiculously good. The cameraman/player was in dense forest. He was holding a nocked bow and seemed to be moving forward painfully slowly. Reaching a bush, the player peeled it back revealing… an empty clearing.
Well that was anti climatic but Michael guessed what was about to happen. He had watched the Jurassic Park movies after all. The player heard something and started to turn. Michael paused the video and reset it at where the player peeled back the bush. Raising the volume of his speakers he clicked play. Now he could hear a growl and really muffed steps coming from somewhere behind to the right of the player. Or that’s what his speakers suggested anyway.
The player abruptly turned to his right. Frantically swinging his bow around to face whatever Michael heard. The player got a half second glimpse at the jaws of a large feline before the screen went black. Cue dramatic Music:
“Join us in Gods Online”
“Damn that would give me a heart attack if that was me”. Well anyway it seems like this game is going to be awesome. Still can’t believe this game is coming out though. Even if I spent most of my time either drinking or working on making Jenkins more useful, he probably should have still heard something…

He stood abruptly. Although he wanted to watch the next trailer pretty badly. He was making an executive decision. He needed to check his phone to find out why Sara was texting him. Furthermore, (and more importantly) he had to brush his teeth and probably have a shower. Fundamentally, brushing his teeth. He felt like he had eaten something seriously bad. Never mind quick and easy fix. Stretching and yawning he walked back through the house. He froze, his eyes widened.
“Fucking Samuel Carlson!”
There was a massive crack in a wall in his lounge. “How the fuck did he even manage that?” Breathing heavily, he closed his eyes and gave himself a moment where he wasn’t looking at a massive crack in his wall. “Who do I even need to call to get this fixed?”
I’ll ask father’s secretary. He always knows what to do. With that decided and making a sub-conscious note to punch Samuel Carlson next time he saw him. (Even if he had no idea who the fuck he was) Michael walked into his bedroom.
Searching through the pair of jeans he wore last night. Finding his phone. Realizing it was out of battery. Plugging it in. Acknowledging that it would take a few minutes he decided that washing up was his best bet. So:
Stripping and grabbing the towel behind his door. He entered the bathroom.

Hail the King

"A calamity unfolded that knows nothing but destruction" "The true pinnacle of hatred and wrath." "A savage demon that eats children" "It's no doubt the king of despair as well as every child's bed monster." However, when you ask those scholars of ages long past, they will answer "It is one of the many riddles of life, one that no man has yet solved." "It is a great question, one so great that you shouldn't ask." "I honestly don't know." "Truly child? Since youth have I dreamed of meeting it, and you expect me to fullfill such a task in my lifetime?" "Nobody truly has any evidence it is evil, yet at the mere mention of the name I tremble in fear." Leave Bad Enough Alone
Something has been amiss in the city’s theaters as of late. The local bards have long done a respectable job of keeping the audiences entertained, weaving high concepts with skillful performances. But lately, a new set of bards, and their illusionist cohorts, have captured the crowd’s attention. Compared to the theater’s usual fare, their work is hackneyed and poorly plotted, with unskilled acting, bad special effects, and unsatisfying resolutions. Worst of all, the audiences like their work more, and these upstarts are far more profitable than the city’s decent bards! Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! Or maybe the city’s bards have just become too hopelessly pretentious and derivative. It’s hard to tell. But investigate it they must! Failure is not an option! Victory, or...well, they’ll have to get day jobs or something. Original cover image generated by NightCafé.Master story list here.
