《Ley World-The Game》Chapter 21

Waking up, Jayson realized he was in a different area once more.
*Where am I? It looks to be the same room, but this time there is a chair and table in front of me. I'm still strapped to the chair. And what's this? Something that looks like a flashlight and a band of metal near the chair. I'm either going to be tortured again, or god knows what. The only reason I haven't already gone crazy is because I keep reminding myself this is a game.*
After waiting a few more hours and leveling up Rationing once more, something changed. Directly in front of him the wall began to sink into the ground. Once the entire part sunk down, he was left looking at a singular man.
The man had a pale complexion and was quite tall. With shoulder-length hair, a handsome face and an aura that reeked of dominance, he was obviously someone rich or powerful. Not to mention the gold embroidered robes he wore.
"My, my... you seem as lively as you were the day you were captured. Luckily for us you travelers, as our informer put it, can come back to life. Otherwise you would have most likely died many days ago." - ???
*I died? Then why didn't I respawn back at the station?*
"You are probably wondering why you didn't... 'respawn'... back at the station. That is simply because we have bound you to the chair. You will forcibly 'respawn' there until the bond is broken. Now you are probably wondering how we know about travelers and respawning right Jayson?" - ???
*What?! How does he know my name? I thought the devs said that it would be impossible for anyone in-game to know who we were unless we told them?! Unless this is just a special event. Yes that must be it! Just a special event...*

"Nothing talking huh... lets change that." - ???
The man pressed a button that appeared mysteriously on the table. Suddenly, Jayson felt himself being electrocuted. During the first few seconds he could handle it and not scream, but the pain slowly started getting worse and worse and he started convulsing, After a few more seconds he began to scream.
"Ah, the pitiful screams of a peasant. How beautiful. Now then, will you respond?" - ???
*I...can't... give... in...*
As Jayson sat there gasping the man slowly began to get angrier.
"Fine then! Let's do this the hard way!" - ???
The man took a needle from his pocket and stabbed it into Jayson's arm. Surprisingly, it didn't hurt. The a prompt showed up.
Potion: Health Regen 2-10 has been applied through a needle. Effects: Heal 100 health per second for 10 hours.
*Wait? Why is he healing me?*
Jayson soon found that answer as the man started electrocuting him once again. This time though, the potion made it so that he wouldn't be killed. After a few minutes of never-ending pain the man finally stopped.

Jackal Among Snakes: GameLit Fantasy Progression
The royal bastard of House Vasquer, Argrave, has changed after his stay studying magic at the Tower of the Gray Owl. The sickly man's awkward posture and cruel behavior have been replaced with a neat dignity and acerbic wit. His listless life has found a path of undeniable purpose. Most come away thinking he seems to know too many details about too much. Few can claim to know his motives or his goals. Behind the scenes, though, the primary contributor for an open-world RPG's wiki battles existential dread and things far beyond his ken as he struggles to adapt to a grim, gothic fantasy world that he had the misfortune to claim as his favorite game. This is his tale. #####What to expect from this story##### This piece is a high-fantasy style story, featuring many of the species and surroundings one might expect to find in such a world. The cultures are original and well-developed, with the primary setting being a European-style feudal society. Warfare, fell beasts, and natural disasters are commonplace in Berendar, and take the center of many plots. The protagonist is a smooth-talker, but the world does not exist for him; he must struggle to gain power. Expect daily releases until we catch up to my backlog.

This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
