Arc 3: The Conqueror’s Son

Northern Palace.

--------------------------

In the middle of a throne room, there was barely any decorations to given it a feeling of warmth. Instead all the black stones and pillars were only lip up with a few lamps. With the stones already being so dark it was even harder to find a shadow with all the figures around. There was a group of organized soldiers standing at attention on either side of a man sitting on the throne. The man on the throne wore a simple dark yellow-golden crown, his chin rested on his fist as if bored. A cloak wrapped around his body hiding the fierce muscles deep within. Yet although the king looked like he would rather be somewhere else, there was a glint of sharpness in his eyes. He was staring straight ahead of him, yet even those on the sides could feel the atmosphere that wrapped around the king. It was a gaze that caused all to unconsciously slump their shoulders. It wasn’t hard to feel beneath his greatness with a stare that saw through one’s soul.

Yet there was one person who was locked in eye contact with the king. Both the king and this man had been staring at one another for a few minutes. All of the other figures around felt perspiration run down their backs giving them a chill that was only increased by the cold feeling within the throne room. But after some time the man finally lightly bowed his head and called out to the king.

“Father, it is time.”

The king still resting his face on his chin gave a great smile. One full of pride and expectations, but though his smile showed this, no one would believe it to be true from the king. The next moment the king suddenly stood up and walked towards his son. The son of the king wasn’t tall. He wasn’t particularly handsome. His build was average but it looked nimble. His hands were full of callous, much unlike a regular prince or any other kingdom. His glare was a copy of the king’s and because of this gaze alone, the king had his son learn many things.

“Yes, indeed it is. I remember what you had to go through.”

The King started to nod as he thought about all the things his son had to go through to come to this point. From tactics in warfare, to teaching languages, all the way to martial arts. Nothing was left out from his son’s curriculum. But as a boy he felt the sheer weight of expectations from his father. Time and time again he would fail under the many professional teachers hired to teach him. Against all odds he managed to master everything he was taught. Was he a genius? Although many would think this, it also had to do with the amount of effort the boy put in. If it wasn’t for the fact that he wished to meet his father’s expectations every single day, he would have long given up. There was nothing worse for the boy than imagining his father’s eyes lose their shine and show their disapproval. Night upon night he would have nightmares of this. And now it was finally the moment to take everything and prove to his father, the king, that he could make him proud.

“Father, I will show you that my efforts were not in vain. There is no meaning of failure to me. I will die, or I will become a conqueror like you!”

As the son said this he walked up to his father to receive him as he came done. It wasn’t because the king was old infact he was still at the peak of his life. He did it cause he truly respected his father. After all his father alone created a empire by himself. Constant warfare with numerous kingdoms, all to be united under a single empire… The Huntis empire! After hearing the words of his son, the king hid his smile and nodded. The king gave him a hug, a hug that was full of the love he carried for his son. A hug that carried the expectations he held for his son. The hug that would let go of his son to the world. As the two parted after their muscles became sore from tensing, the king spoke out.

“Raine, my son. Do you know what I named you this?”

Raine shook his head as he hadn’t heard the reason from his father before, but he was apparently excited and showed it on his face. The guards around even moved their eyes in anticipation. To hear a reason that a king would have for naming their child, who wouldn’t want to know the reason behind it? And now the king was about to speak the origin of his son’s name. Without waiting for his son to urge him the king continued.

“You will be the cloud that stretches over the sky. You will be the the rain that covers the land. You will become the droplet that will unify all others into an ocean. You will become a conqueror even greater than I! You, as my son, Raine, will unite this world!”

Raine thought for a few seconds, as he knew that the origin was naturally behind the fact that the gods have all decided onto their world. But maybe it was for this reason that Raine was going out to become a Pathwalker. His father was telling him his origin so that he could after becoming an Immortal, or even a God, unite this world under their banner. As Raine clearly knew his father’s intentions by telling him this, he nodded. Without speaking the king gave a look of farewell. Receiving the look, Raine turned around and walked out of the throne room. To prepare for his story, his path, and his conquest!

As Raine left, the king turned to look at the knight closest to him. As he spoke his deep voice echoed throughout the the throne room.

“Prepare 1000 knights and 2000 slaves that are going out to become Pathwalkers for my son to command. If they follow my son, their families will be given enough food to last them ten years.”

“.....It will be done your majesty.”

Though the knight had wanted to protest, just from the glare alone the knight felt his throat being sliced open infinitely slow yet all within a short period of time…

----------------------

A week had gone by since the fight with the Tyrant Devourer. The moment Owen received the Cinder, he was struck stupid for a long time. Demia had put him a position he wasn’t able to react towards. Even now he was still thinking how she gave it up so easily. If it was him he would have to fought to the death for it. It was clear by his actions throughout the entire situation how important he saw it was.

The only thing, Owen managed to remember of what Demia spoke at the end was her name. As he was only paying attention to the the single call of her name caused him to remember it forever.

He was feeling that strangely enough it was becoming harder and harder to remain calm with events like this happening one after another. But Owen shook it off and left the mountain. He had no idea what happened with fight between the Keeper and Fallen, but as he had the Cinder the most important thing for him was to find a spot to absorb the energy with his Solar Eyes technique. Luckily for him during this week of travel he found the first village of that was full of Keepers…
