《Re:Asura》Chapter 17: Burning the Midnight Oil

An hour earlier...
As Asura had only memorized the contents of the 'Mana Sense' skill, he had yet to actually utilize it.
"Mana Sense, a skill that actively consumes mana to create a sphere of intangible mana, observing any organism or object that contains mana. By expanding the range of the sphere, the consumption of mana will also increase." Asura recalled a paragraph from the 'Mana Sense' scroll.
Currently utilizing the 'Mana Sense', he could create at most create a sphere that was about ten metres in diameter, and could only maintain it for an hour, factoring in that he was on full mana capacity. During a fight against a magus, maintaining the 'Mana Sense' while actively firing spells would consume a frightful amount of mana, which could prove fatal if the fight was to be dragged out.
As Asura had opted to undergo warrior training as a child, he can use physical attacks while maintaining the 'Mana Sense' to avoid spells and attacks that could come from any direction.
However, magi have spells to reinforce their defenses, such as using earth elemental essences to create a layer of hardened earth on their skin, or wind elemental essences to generate powerful winds around the caster, preventing anyone from getting close.
This is why a 2nd level warrior is considered to be on par to a 1st level magus, a 3rd level warrior on par with a 2nd level magus and so on.
[Author's Note: Not sure if I used 'and so on' correctly]
As magi do not train their bodies, they generally have a weak defense against physical attacks, which is why they often fight in a group to support one another in case one of them runs out of mana.
After utilizing the 'Mana Sense' for an hour, Asura had almost completely run out of mana, and was sweating heavily from the exertion. "Amazing!" He thought. When he had utilized the 'Mana Sense', he could sense the mana within the children's 'Origin of Life' in the other bedrooms.

He had found that some of their 'Origin of Life' were denser than the others! This meant that the 'Mana Sense' could also be used to investigate another person's mana capacity! Excitedly, he had quickly taken out another scroll at random. Unrolling it, he took a quick look at the contents.
"Thousand Essences Absorption" Thick black words were written at the top. "Huh?" Asura scrunched together as he frowned.
"This scroll seems to be a lot more unique than the previous scrolls that I had already destroyed."
All of the words in this scroll was written in an extremely graceful manner. When Asura looked over the words, he found that he could hardly grasp the concept behind the instructions! Even after reading a few times, he could only understand little bits of information each time.
For the first time since he was born into this world, he had to stare at a scroll for hours.
[P.S. I was kinda tempted to write some bullshit for the 'Thousand Essences Absorption' scroll. xD]
